    fabienzaca yeah, that was always my favorite part about the battle. Because both sides have a great variety of creatures and animals, there's the opportunity to throw random creatures at each other to fight. Its not just one basic soldier fighting another basic soldier, in this battle there are centaurs fighting tigers, gorillas fighting minotaurs and wolves, leopards fighting giants, cheetahs fighting werewolves, dwarves fighting cyclops', leopards fighting ogres, pigs fighting dwarves, dogs fighting tigers and wolves. Its crazy

    Bryan Marin Yeah, all the Narnians had were Fauns, Satyrs, Cheetahs, Boars, Rhinos and Centaurs. Meanwhile the White Witch had Black Dwarfs, Minotaurs, Minoboars, White Tigers, Wolfs, Werewolves, Ankle Slicers, Cyclops, Giants, Hags, Harpies and Ogres. That's also not counting the fact that there were 5,000 Narnians (with 700 more arriving alongside Aslan, Lucy and Susan) against 15,000 of the White Witch's Troops. Sometimes I wonder how the Narnians even stood a chance XD

    1:07 Everything about this scene is just perfect. My favorite part is the overhead slow mo shot of Peter’s Army. Then the shot where we just hear Peter’s heart beat, but notice how fast is heart beat is normally a teenage boy charging into an outnumbering army of monsters his heart beat should be racing like a motorcycle. But Peter’s heartbeat is steady, and slow, he’s not afraid at all, he’s calm and brave. Then that zoom in shot shows us, he’s no longer a boy… he’s a man… a hero… a knight…. A KING. Wonderful movie 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

    As a kid, this was the coolest thing ever. It still shakes my bones to see the charge and hear the music. However, looking back on it, it doesn't make tactical sense for Peter to abandon the high ground. Especially since he was heavily outnumbered, he should have moved his main army up high and let the Witch's army get a hit with volleys of arrows before entering the fray. But .... it's Diseny

    I remember watching it in theatre many years ago when I was a kid. I still rewatch the battle scene every year and every time it makes my blood pump and chills run down my spine. Yes, it might be a kids' movie, but it still has a place in my heart and I still enjoy it, as a very simple and yet very warm story of good ol' light fighting against the dark. Plus the cinematic, camera shots and music here are superb.

  • @jeffreypeters2803
    @jeffreypeters2803 Жыл бұрын

    I love this sequence, I just can't help but be bothered by the fact that the Narnians didn't use their superior position to their advantage. If they had positioned all their infantry at strategic points in the rocks, they could have denied the witch's forces the full advantage of their numbers, while also taking greater advantage of their archer support. The archers aren't even in a position to help where they are at this stage of the battle, and once you had the witch's army more clustered together, the gryphons and other fliers of the Narnians would have been able to do their job, rather than go in unsupported right at the start. The centaur charge was definitely a good tactic, but had they drawn the witch into the rocks first, the centaurs could have been positioned elsewhere, so that they could charge into the enemy's flank or rear once they had committed their assault on the rock formation, which would have cut off the enemy's retreat, and also caused immense chaos in their rank. Peter's anxiety at the start of the battle about the enemy's numbers was correct, in that you should never fight a numerically superior foe on the open field without a major tactical advantage. The Narnians had so many they could have used, but they really wasted a lot of opportunities here. Epic battle though.

  • @lairx

    @lairx

    7 жыл бұрын

    Warren Lloyd Tolkien was catholic; Lewis turned atheist in his youth. Through his friendship with Tolkien, Lewis returned to religion and subsequently joined the Anglican Church. Though Tolkien was a very devout catholic he did not - at least not intentionally - include Biblical tropes in his works. Being a linguist he was fascinated by northern mythology. If I remember correctly, he regarded _The Silmarillion_ as his most important work. An ever expanding and changing sort of proof of concept of invented mythology with lots of elements of Icelandic sagas, and Scandinavian and other mythologies. _The Lord of the Rings_ was in the beginning a rather accidental fallout of this gigantic effort, while _The Hobbit_ was a work he cherished. But apart from composing a mythology he took great pains in inventing accompanying languages. I believe everybody agrees that he exceeded himself in this regard as well. Getting back to religion and the Bible, Tolkien held the view that especially the New Testament included everything one could possibly want to know about God. In his opinion the NT was _the perfect holy book_. By trying to add something to Christian faith through allegories or the like one could only fail, but never reach Biblical perfection. While Lewis and Tolkien sort of reconciled later, they would never regain their earlier intimacy. Sorry for this long and rambling text wall, I got carried away ☺
