There incredibly isn't a video of The Christians' amazing 1992 hit What's in a Word on You Tube that has been properly sync-ed, in high quality and with stereo. And none involving the whole album version. So here's a SiX DwArF re-vamp for those like me who think this is a cardinal sin.
You can draw comparisons to a perhaps more politically-charged Temptations.
Contrary to some belief, The Christians are not religious zealots. They are a pop-soul musical ensemble from Liverpool, England, who had several UK and international chart hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The name of the band refers to the surname of the three brothers that were originally in the line-up, and is also coincidentally guitarist Henry Priestman's middle name.
Their self-titled debut album was one of the biggest sellers of 1987 helped with a string of corking hit singles. It entered the UK Albums Chart at number 2 and eventually sold over a million copies.
Garry Christian, the lead singer is still touring the Christians' back catalogue.

I was 16 when this song released. I'm french and i didnt understand a single word by that time and never tried to get the lyrics. But the song drived my whole life till today for some reason and defined what i am. I guess this is what we call magic ?è

What a beautiful track - the production is amazing, the song - especially the chorus - is sublime, the message of the song can't be faulted and the video, with its hints of latin tyrannies and revolution is so well done, and the voices just wonderful. What an underrated band. I keep coming back to them , especially this track - thanks guys!!

Zoran you have expressed my feelings only more eloquently than I ever could. Every time I hear this song it brings tears to my eyes. "And I have heard there's a new age dawning". Oh man, that wipes me out and lifts me up. How it must feel to create a song of such sublime beauty. A greater tribute to MLK has not been made. The world needs this.

The lyrics of this amazing song make me feel both anger and hope. Anger for what is and hope for what we might become.

Due to band wranglings and the fact people wrongly thought they might be bible thumpers , i dont think they got the credit they deserved. Double-platinum selling debut LP entered the UK album charts at number 2 but they never really capitalised on that

I just checked top chart position of this masterpiece. Can you believe this was only number 33? Its a shame, actually disgraceful. Were People already so dumbed down they didnt recognize this or just the TV- radio music vendors? I hope for some future re-release or cover to make up for this unjustice.

Free at last great lyrics. I also like forgotten town it reminds me when I played their record on my stereo in 1988. It woke up the neighborhood and along with other artists records evokes good memories.

Thanks so much for writing out the lyrics, just the odd mistake (sometimes it's hard to hear the correct lyric), which I hope you don't mind me correcting :-) Verse 2: "And while I slide down into darkness You STAND so proud, so proud in the light " and Last chorus: "Yes I have heard THERE'S a new age dawning".
