The Christians lyrics were very political, they required you to do some thinking and homework. This song is very critical of the Thatcher government and the false promises of renewal for Liverpool after the devastating loss of heavy industries and the dockyard.

Powerfull song with powerfull lyrics.... Still relevant today. These guys were awesome..... Rip Roger💚

Its a song about Thatchers Britain in the 80's. Its more relevant today than ever, under that bunch of lying, cheating, criminal bastards.

Fantastic song Hooverville, probably my favourite song by the Christians. It's not just Gary's voice that stands out here but Roger's too.

My dad and I used to listen to The Christians full blast in the car when I was growing up - great memories and I was lucky enough to take him to see them just before Covid kicked off. This song has played on repeat in my dreams the last few nights so I needed to scratch my itch this morning! Awesome band x

So relevant 2023, slimey lying politicians promising us everything. Had.this song as an earworm all week, still love it, his vocals just ❤❤

My dad passed away early this morning. In 1998 he used to drive to see me in hospital. Living in Grimsby, following a accident I needed specialist care in a hospital in Nottingham. Dad used to play this CD - or maybe cassette in those days - over and over again. Despite having to have both my lower legs amputated I made a good recovery. Love and miss you dad. xx

That's great to hear. You always want to hear that people are worth the respect you have for them. I heard him on a radio show and he seemed a good bloke but the true test is the sort of scenario you have described.

Love this song........the video was shot at Clarence Dock Power Station in Liverpool.

He looks like Morpheus. I love the jangly guitar at the end of the bridge. The video is awesome love the industrial landscape

Great band, great songs, great voices..... this band is one of my all time favorites...!!!

My dad loves The Christians. Him and my mum went to see them live at the Chelmsford F.C venue.

I grew up with this type of music, excuse my french but fucking awesome band , seen them live in a small venue outside of Cardiff, words cannot describe how I felt when Gary asked for favourites, this was one of mine and I asked for it on that night and got it , thank you

I remember seeing them at the Hammersmith Odeon in the 80's, there was a problem with power to the stage but that did not stop them, acoustic it was and they were fantastic.

I just keep playing this cd it takes me back to the good old days

I think The Christians are supporting Level 42 on their tour - 2023 I just purchased tickets for the show in Sheffield - I hope they sing HOOVERVILLE

Filmed at Battersea power station London UK. Creates a great tone to the song and video especially in black & white. Fantastic song and fantastic song from 1987 summer.
