The Christening - Vitruvian VII - Atelier Puglisi contrabasso 2023
Музыка
Jonathan Coco drops in to the workshop, picks up the brand new contrabbasso and gives it a voice! And I really couldn't be happier with how he makes this sing.
Instruments often develop and mature after being played, and this is a recording of the first day fully set up. Can't wait to hear it after few years or more of playing.
Vitruvian VII, or as we named this one, 'Signor Nero' is a model which I have been working on for more than a 15years.
There's been endless variations and different innovative approaches to the arching, neck length, body width and depth and back bracing. I have enjoyed making these instrument with both flat and fully carved backs.
This time using timbers from the European Alps, that I had been storing in the attic for more than two decades I chose to make a carved back with low, powerful arching and the freedom in making techniques and styles that is so indicative of the Great Italian makers. With the invaluable help of my talented team, Andy Tiggs and Tim Kill, particularly with their work on the neck and scroll, custom light weight C extension and machine heads, I have to say that this is one of those nice times when the vision matched my expectations.
Thank you for watching.

What an orchestral cannon! That sort of low register from a brand new bass is mind blowing - sweet upper range - one bass to rule them all! :-) amazing work Ben
