The Chinese Hawker Who Converted to Islam
Фильм және анимация
In 2011, Anis made the decision to become a Muslim. He's faced many obstacles since then, from his cooking methods as a hawker to his relationships with others-but he's kept his faith strong. This is his story.
Anis wishes to thank his teacher, Ustaz Omar Ma and Muslim friends that help him with his journey as a Chinese-Muslim.

But many Chinese folks will try to get him to doubt his faith, because they look down on Islam and feel like he's degrading himself as a Chinese. I know this because I have a friend who's a Chinese muslim convert, and he gets a lot of support from other Muslims, but nothing but hate from other Chinese.

Islam is getting a bad rep from catholics because some of muslims market the religion as leverage. I remember while working in Saudi, a big company, there is a undisclosed "hidden" company policy there that foreign workers that convert to muslims with the knowledge of the dept then they will get salary increase and get more favors of getting better in their careers within the company. Foreign workers that are catholics and hindus rolled their eyes, seeing the practice of converting for convenience, unimpressive and desecrating islam.

@@rdu239 As a Muslim myself, I also don’t like being judged by others. I’d like to practice the religion my own way. Honestly, I don’t wear hijab and I know even my some of my fellow Muslims will call me a bad Muslim and that’s what angers me the most. I am still a practicing Muslim and I know sooner or later I will try to improve myself but these people are often so pushy and asking me why not do it now? In the end, religion is personal and people became like that because of the saying of reminding each other every now and then but it is to a point that I feel Muslims forget the beauty of being patient while teaching one another. I guess what I wanted to say is I understand what is like being judged by people when they have no right to do so.

@@GeorgiaAndrea I'm sorry but allow me to correct. It's very dangerous for a Muslim to practice the Islamic teaching according to his or her own way. @@kafkacommercialstudios4124 I strongly disagree. I use to work in a Malay dominated environment and they all treated me very poorly because I was of a different race. They would gang up on me on a daily basis and made my life extremely miserable. I felt angry and sad working with them but I am the better man so I never talk back, I just do my work. there was probably 1-3 who were okay but I realize that when they got promoted, their behaviour towards me changed. They started to be verbally abusive towards me whilst nice to their own. When I had it with them, I decided to resign and the Malay manager who was one of the a-holes who constantly treated me badly had the audacity to tell me that I'm only resigning because I'm a copycat, following others who just resigned. Leaving that place was the best thing I did and I wished I had done it earlier

What a beautiful story, thank you for sharing this. When we come across people who take a different direction from ourselves, who do something radical and unexpected from the "norm", it not only tests our own faith and values, but also tests theirs. As human beings, we are constantly pulled into different situations and experiences that are actually opportunities to show our OWN humanity and empathy for others. If we come across people doing something different from ourselves, how we respond and react says more about ourselves than of the person who is undergoing their change. People can follow whatever path they want and be who they want. That bravery - to do something different -often scares people because they are yet to explore it in some way themselves.
