The Harley Benton PB-20 costs 109 € which is arguably not a lot of money for an electric bass.

I bought one of these on Thomann and shipped it to Spain for a 2 week long tour. I didn't want to fly with my main bass, so it seem like a good idea. The bass did it's job perfectly. Definitly doesn't feel lika a good quality/hi-end instrument, but sounds good, doesn't fall apart and servers it's purpose. Perfect example that you don't need a 5k, 10k bass to sound good on stage and make people happy.
it doesnt matter what the brand is or the price, any insturment can be used to make music 🤘🏻

i think you convinced me. 89€ for a bass guitar that actually sounds decent. it won't with my fingers. but that doesn't matter. the hypothetical good sounding sound is there.
5:10 sound of bass
Been using one for more than a year now and all I can say it is surprisingly good for the price, totally worth the money, so if you are thinking of getting one, go for it!
i baught one of these because of this review, love it, thanx
Played one year ago or so. When you try to adjust pickup height, screws adjusts only... plastic housing but poles remains at same height relative to strings. And truss rod adjustment ...well, it's easy to break the screw thread (or I don't know how it called properly). That's it. But sounds as "normal" cheap instrument. Not a money waste but OK option for complete beginner or if you need bass to lay down some parts for song draft.
You inspired me try one and review it on my channel. Bit of set up needed but as a guitarist using a bass for recording it is amazing for the money!
Sounds pretty decent.....in the right hands of course. Well done.
Great review! Interested on this kind of review.
In the last 5 years (even more so in the last 2) it seems Harley Benton have improved so much whike keeping the prices the same. Its crazy how much bass you get for your money

I started off on a bass like this but I think I would recommend a beginner to start on a bass with 2 pick-ups.
one thing im worried about thomann instruments are that they're relatively heavy. I've had two guitars from them and they're heavier than the usual.
It would be nice to have an idea of recording process? is it just DI, did you add any compressor equalization?
En todo el video estuve esperando escuchar cómo sonaba el Slap, hasta el final! 😅😉👌

A competent player will make any bass sound good....& a novice will not make a great bass sound good so it's a conundrum...;-))

Any P bass nowadays with a decent set up sounds great and, these Harley Bentons prove price isn't a factor.
ive been playing guitar for just under a year so im deciding to pick a bass up thanks for the vid ill probably buy it
A student had one and it was very fun to play and sounded totally P. Weak hardware but I wouldn't mind having one for dangerous gigs.
I managed to buy a left-handed short scale version of this bass for 30 euro. I can't play long scale basses easily anymore because of back problems and I managed to find it used online. I wasn't expecting much but it's ok. After a set-up and dealing with some sharp frets it's very playable. Well done Thomann
Thank you. Would be great if you could test the most expensive Harley Benton bass. If it has the same quality / price ration that the cheap one, it must be very good.

Gregor I made the mistake buying a cheap P bass and I cant get it to sound good. It sounds like the bass is still in the box or like your holding your hand over your mouth type sound. Maybe it's me I dont know.
Name of the first song?
Bought the progressive line from Harley Benton with active pickups for 139 euros. Which is a steal for active pickup bass with a non standard fretboard.
I was actually thinking of getting 1 of these
I only have one problem with your cheap Thomann bass videos. What kind of amp is the bass connected to and is it going through a DAW because that can make a very bad bass sound very good.

Thomann‘s got these quite cheap instruments in every department. And they do work as it seems all very well. What could be expected in every way is to function in its basic matter. And that‘s what they do. I‘ve got an affordable Sax, my daughter a trumpet for school. Both are reliable and good enough to apologize the mistakes of less experienced Players.

Hello, is it possible to put another jazz single coil pickup on it near the saddle?
@lauriehwrdlh
5 жыл бұрын
The deluxe version for only 40 euro more comes with the jazz pickup at the saddle.
This was my first short scale bass and it really changed everything for me. I loved bass but 34 inch scale was not intuitive at all to my hands. I picked up a used one, the paint had faded (left out in direct sun too long) and it had a not so nice hum from the pickup. I changed out the pickups, gave it a basic paint job, changed the wiring. All these were basic upgrade, nothing fancy, no name brand pickups or anything like that. (Probably $50-60 in parts altogether). I shielded the wiring and pickup cavity with aluminum foil. No more hum! I also changed the knobs for Jazz Style plastic knobs, so I can see the levels. (I really dislike knobs without markers.). Finally, I took a small fine file and fixed the metal fret edges and then took 600 grit sand paper and softened the edges of the fretboard. Now it's a great instrument! Really plays well. Feels good. The tone knob provides a lot of variety in sound for a P bass. Could not be happier. For a Left-Handed player there are no other P-Bass short scales unless you want to shell out for a Sandberg. Given that, this was perfect. Thanks HB!
$88?? WTH do you want?? This actually sounds good, LOL. How does it compare w an SX or Squier P-bass?
some people say that Harley Benton is better than Squier! :)))
@couchcamperTM
5 жыл бұрын
I had a cheap HB guitar - and it is absolutely astounding how good it was. perfect action, only minor issues with the finish, frets ok, I would say with a little upgrade (pickups maybe, electronics for sure^^) it can be much better than a squier and still be cheaper. I am looking forward to buy the 5 string HB bass. If that's only half as good it is more than enough for someone who hasn't played bass in 15 years lol
It seems like the tone control is a binary all or nothing switch, very much as it is on the equivalent TE-20 (the cheapest Harley Benton Telecaster copy). It might as well not be there.

BassTheWorld.com thank you. Both being virtualy identical visually, I conclude materials and hardware are the same, and probably the electronics as well, just hoped for some confirmation. Hope you do review some affordable shortscales soon.
With new pickups, this could be a decent playing bass. But a Squier Affinity Precision, which has an alder body, rosewood fingerboard and probably better pickups, is only slightly more expensive.

I agree the squire is a better option but twice the price. I bought a second hand one for £30. Set it up and sold it my mate. He is very happy with it as his practice bass. The wood is very soft when I removed the scratch plate all the screws were stripped. It does play very well.
