The Cheapest Hotel I Could Find In London...£50?

/ wanderingturnip
www.buymeacoffee.com/wanderin...
I was in London making another video, and I needed to stay down for the night. I didn't want to pay silly money for a room, so I thought I would find the cheapest room going and stay there.
I found a room at the Hyde Park Court Hotel, near Paddington. It had a fantastic location so I thought why the heck not.
It has clearly seen better days, but I was actually pleasantly surprised, or should I say, I was disappointed at how fine it actually was.
It is not the place I would take my girlfriend too, but for one night on a budget, it was far better than I expected. Especially when you are looking at staying in a dorm with loads of beds in a hostel for the same price.
Do let me know what you think though, could you stay in London's cheapest hotel.

There is an even cheaper room (off the records) underneath the front steps at £35 , with a small courtyard. That is literally just the bed in the alcove under the front steps...very tight...you showed it in one of the photos. Literally just a bed and walls and side cabinet and a fire door into a courtyard below the street. Stayed 2 nights...really cool little place. For £35 it's my go to if I need a night to stay in London...very reasonable for the price. It's grotty but they do keep it clean. You can't book it online you have to 'ask nicely' at the counter and just give a quick rub of your nose. However, I did have the courtyard to myself so could pop out and have a smoke whenever I wanted.

@@tobyjackman3212 True, but it is being refurbished and Cambridge now has a high speed rail link to London so no point for me anymore. But such a cool little nuance factoid. Sometimes the cleaner stays in that room but they do keep it like a hotel room. I think fire safety prevents them from letting it out (officially) because it is just 'too small'. Literally the cupboard underneath the stairs. The fire exit is literally just outside the room into the courtyard - so your very safe from fire. It is literally red tape , "room must be x-amount square meters" blah, blah, etc.

Loved this vid! I have paid £180 in a hotel along the Bayswater road that honestly had tons of issues with plumbing, carpets, decor, leaks - really run down.. So for what you needed (a bed for the night after a lock-in at an Irish pub 🙈🤣 before continuing to make further fab content for us) it was ideal! The bad reviews make no sense.. if you pay £57 in the middle of London, you simply *CANNOT* expect all the home comforts.. Fascinating vlog.. 👍

No one expects "all the home comforts" but when a place isn't even clean and there's no heat or hot water I think it's fair enough to complain and that's usually the thing that bothers us the most about cheap hotels. I've stayed in many a place where they say they won't clean it while you're there but I didn't expect them not to clean it between guests. Top tip, never ever take look at the mattress if these places.

I don't think many people know that over the summer you can stay in university hall of residence. So for example right near the Royal Albert Hall is Imperial College. You can stay for about £95 there, which compared to some nightly prices of hotels in the area at £300+ it's a bargain, and probably not as grubby as the hotel you stayed in!

WT. I once stayed in a place near Paddington1998 for six weeks. It was £35 a night room only. It had a little payment laundry area with iron no board just iron. The clothes cupboard was wedged to one side as the floor sloped. It had a little TV and you could get coffee from downstairs. The doors and walls were pre-fabricated and they were still building the hotel around you, there was wet paint everywhere. However, it was ok. I left London because of the job and £250 pm transport charges. I had nothing hardly left from my wages. I went to Torquay for less money but better off.

I stayed there on occasions years ago when I was a lot younger when my Venezuelan ex girlfriend invited me over when she wasn’t working at night as a lap dancer in the nightclubs, while staying in the U.K. on a 6 month visa… As for the hotel you stayed in for £50, that’s a bargain in an exclusive part of London. Those listed Victorian and Georgian buildings look nice on the outside painted white but terrible on the inside with plasterboard walls because they are converted into multiple rooms to generate as much cash as possible for the hotel. At the end of the day, so long as there’s no black mould, and the toilet is clean with clean towels and clean bed linen, what’s not to like.

Bed bugs happen in $500 hotels, it’s really a matter of how often the sheets are changed. I’d bet an expensive suite that rarely gets used is more likely to have them than a cheap hotel with lots of customers.

I stayed in the cheapest hotel in london for £48. No breakfast, no TV, no other stuffs that a usual hotel offers, just the bed all to yourself alone, towels, basic toiletries, that’s it. The room is underground though and really small. But hey, if you just need a bed to sleep on through the night but not comfortable sleeping in Hostels with other strangers, it’s a very good option. I definitely stay in it again.

I stayed there in 1985 and it was considered the worst and cheapest then as well, though I think today it is a little better. I recall staying in a partitioned-off cubicle type area with a cot for a bed, and no TV.

I stayed in that area a lot for work and those types of hotels often have really bad reviews, I've stayed in worse than that though. If you think it's bad when the weather is mild book it in the middle of a heatwave or the coldest day of winter 😲 It's like the owners can't afford to keep up with the maintenance and just completely give up.

Only bad part was being out in the middle of nowhere. Yotel @ Bethnal Green - Shoreditch was $150. Super nice for 50% more. Probably cheaper outside of summer.

Great vid. Come out of Kings X stations main entrance and cross over the road and all the parallel side streets like Chad St, Argyle St, Belgrove St etc which have nasty cheap hotels on them which are as worse or if not worse than where you stayed. Just like any of these hotels there’s giveaways to very old decor like doors and 70s 80s fittings, tv etc and the work that’s ongoing which is great but there’s a saying for that and it’s “polishing a turd”

For the price and location it was absolutely fine. People complain way too much on Trip Advisor at that price range. They want to pay $50 for a room and spend all their time complaining how it wasnt five star luxury. You get what you pay for. Much more privacy and quiet than a hostel.
