The Chateau Diaries 091: Scotland the Brave
The Elusive Nic and I went on an awfully big adventure to Scotland.
We immersed myself in the world of Scottish Castles, visiting Doune Castle - the location of Outlander and Game of Thrones, and staying at the stunning Inverlochy Castle in Fort William, on our way to our friends' country house near Dundee. Many of you have asked about Nic, as he's the friend that I bought the Chateau de Lalande with 14 years ago, yet he's never seen on Escape to the Chateau DIY! As you'll be on this week's video, he's very shy and doesn't appear on social media ;)
The holiday was a whirlwind of waterfalls, tartan, fine dining, stunning scenery, and a rather stubborn black forest gateau... And on my return to London I had the joy of finally meeting Erin from the beautiful Chateau de Bourneau. Although we've chatted many times on Instagram, we'd never met in person. We had so much in common, and shared the ups and downs of being chatelaines in the modern world 💛🏰💛
To see more of Erin's adventures as the chatelaine of the Chateau de Bourneau, see:

Can’t believe Nick packed his cunning disguise 🥸 for your walk!! Greetings and love from Scotland 🏴
"I went on a 2 hour walk and I barely whinged....". 🤣🤣🤣. I love your posts! You are, by far, the most interesting and eclectic person on the net!!!
Scotland is so beautiful and home of my paternal grandfather's people!
Drizzle Porn...hahahahahah!! I love that show. So enjoyable going back and watching your videos I've missed.
So much fun rewatching all the older vlogs, you have come a long way baby
I live vicariously through your mini documentaries Stephanie......but I am lucky enough to live in beautiful Scotland x
You have such a lovely life, I know you have worked hard for it. I love watching these videos, they always make me smile.
A lack of Jamie...That had me dying!!!
Breath taking views. I got scared when Step went across that rope bridge.
my husband and I visited Doune Castle on our honeymoon, exactly 11 years ago from when you posted this! (Nov,2008), and that was such a highlight! fun to see it again while being narrated by you!
Went to Scotland for the first time September & my dream was to stay in a castle for two nights & I did!!! Most magical place even though it was very small but yet & old castle! The highlands were breath taking & the history, thank you for bringing my dreams of Scotland back to me! Love all the knowledge you bring with these vlogs, I have never been so hungry after every vlog lol! You have inspired me to cook again with flavourful spices & enjoy the little things in life!❤️🇨🇦
Am thoroughly enjoying these posts. Have gone back as far as I can to watch your vlogs. Am loving the history caps. Visited France a few years ago with two of our tids. I want so much to go back. But these are frightening times. Please keep up the vlogs. You say you’ve no artistic line. Sorry but all you need to do is look all around you. Your rooms, gardens, gowns, even your friends from all spectrums of our world. So please don’t stop. But most importantly THANKYOU!! 💋💋💋💋💋💋💋
That was an amazing adventure. With wonderful friends, sumptuous food & lodgings & stunning scenery. Thank you Stephanie for sharing it with us. Wonderful!!!
Every time I watch outlander I think of you as Claire but the blonde version. I think outlander series is one of my favorite centuries. Much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖
Right that’s it!! I’m going to make Black Forest Gateaux 🌲 🍒🖤
Gosh! What a beautiful place Scotland, my favourite part of the world.
You've spoiled us once again with a fabulous vlog Stephanie. Giving us a peak into an array of beautiful sights, meals, friends, shopping & history. Thank you as always 💋👌💛 Beautiful blessings Mandy 👑SA
That was a fun-filled trip, Stephanie. You never disappoint by including us on your adventures. I fell in love with Scottish Baronial architecture when I was in Edinburgh last year so you rekindled my visit today. I like Nik however I do find him a bit stoic--his expression is always the same. Thanks again! Darryl
Loved this! However, I think we all know who Nick really is, the back of his head was identical to Henry Cavil, aka Super man!
Love Scotland!! I can't wait to go back! The beautiful country of my forefathers 💙💙💙
Will we ever see nick ???? Lol, thanks again for another amazing video

Think it is childish not to show face on Stephanie's vlog
During lockdown I’ve been perusing U Tube for anything of interest. Not long ago I discovered your Vlogs Every day I find several new (to me) entries , and truly it’s like finding a box of amazing decadent Chocolates. Such a wonderful treat! I look forward to enjoying them all. Thank you so much. You’re brilliant!
Well done on your two hour hike - and what an absolutely perfect place to have a picnic. I was mightily impressed with your spaetzle and the fact that you were able to translate Nick's very helpful instruction to 'let it gloop through'! :) Fabulous, entertaining and informative vlog - as always.
I have been binging on the diaries and all the diy vlogs for about 3 weeks....just realized I missed this one on Scotland, which I just loved, especially knowing you were at the Outlander castle, I’m a huge fan......what beautiful countryside............now I know where you got the garlic that you and Michael decorated the kitchen with.......I can smell it across the ocean...........I hate that the diaries are over , so will have to be content with the Christmas dailies........................Donna in Toronto

Every bit as wonderful, watching the second time around! 💖💖💖💖💖
We planned our honeymoon in Scotland in September. We had to push the wedding to next year but we are still hoping to go on our honeymoon. And when I see this vlog I know we made the right choice. It’s so beautiful !
Outlander is 1 of my fav shows i adore it x what a great episode
Really don't think I could go to Scotland without walking the soles off a pair of new shoes and going to every castle and waterfall, certainly be there more than 2 nights. My ideal chateau wear would be silk chemise under wonderful handmade alpaca sweater and jeans because comfort is soooo much better than frimpery and so much money goes into repair of just this 114yo house can't imagine spending an extra dime on myself
Stories and History's AMAZING!!!
I may never be able to have the funds to travel to my ancestors land, but so appreciate you sharing these adventures.
My God, you have me giggling like a kid!!
If I was fortunate enough to be in the company of Ms. Stephanie I would not wear a bag, I’d carry a megaphone where I’d yell “Look at me” to anyone within ear-shot.
I adore Scotland! I love walking! what a dream walk!
Charlotte said ‘fandabidozi’. That’s from The Crankies and is over 40 years old, brilliant!
For some reason when I hear the bagpipes playing, my heart gets happy and my blood sings! I just love listening to them and the Scottish accents too! 😍😍🌴🌴🌴🥀🥀🥀
I remember a slice of blackforest cake in Waghäusel, Germany. We were so tipsy after the slice, it was hilarious. ♡
I'm loving your videos. I live in Michigan, USA and have Covid-19 so am stuck home. I've been bingeing your videos for a few weeks. My grandpa is from Scotland but moved to the states in 1939. I've never been but it's #1 on my bucket list. It's fun to live vicariously through your videos.
It was fun seeing some of the places I visited when I was in Scotland . Being from America I most enjoyed the old castles
wow you create such fun fantasy on your trips. I had missed this one.
What a lovely adventure in Scotland!!! The rugged beauty is amazing. I didn't know that Scotland had such mountains.
Looooved this episode!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
As a Scottish-born Frenchwoman, I loved this episode💙
Hard to imagine days before this was posted, the first case of Covid was being reported in the China. I think Lionel is a long lost cousin! My descendants are Stuart's as well!! :)
Thank you for sharing this! Scotland, how lovely. My dream place to visit. I would love that walk...
I want to go on every trip with you. Lol You find the best places and know the history!
I do so love your visits to Scotland. Thanks for taking me.
Thank you Stephanie, for sharing your life with us!
Oh my gosh, I thought the bedroom was one of your best but now this one is even a little better ❣️ The Scotland part was a wonderful dream of how I feel about that country and when you add the information of its history is is so interesting. Oh how I would love to stay in that castle. London is always lovely and the tea looked wonderful. I am now going to try and find a garlic clove for my tree👍 Thank you again for a special visit❤️ I want to add more , I keep reviewing the video, but now I will call my sister in California and tell her to watch and then we will talk about it‼️

Loved your vlog Stephanie. I love visiting the area of Fort William. We are heading to a hotel in Glencoe in a couple of weeks, not quite as grand as Inverlochy Castle Hotel, but fabulous nonetheless. It was wonderful to see the beautiful rooms. Hopefully we will have some snow by then. Was that the Steall waterfall, the terrain looked rough, also very well done on your river crossing. Enjoy your fabrics.
Your goddaughter summed everything up perfectly. Fandabbydaisy! Love this episode. Love them all!
Warms my heart.. from a McIntosh to another Scott!
another wonderful armchair trip for me to enjoy. thanks for sharing.

Eve never seeing nic he reminds me of my friend, dragging me on ridiculous adventures and being both very outgoing at times and very private. I enjoyed your adventure and I’m proud of you for surviving your walk.
Loved seeing Doune Castle, last time I was their for an evening family drinks party pre the wedding in Auchterarder, a June evening and rooms filled with large urns of wild Cow Parsley ! it was magical and guests in awe of the venue. Nearby is a large and wonderful statue of David Stirling who founded the SAS ! the family were originally from Kier Castle in Stirling. What amazes me Stephanie is the amount of food you can consume and stay as thin as a sparrow ! Another magic Vlog for your collection and our viewing. Happy holiday
What a fun vlog. A lack of Jaime haha darn. I loved the whiskey glass you had at the castle hotel. That German meal looked pretty tasty 🍰
Your video made my day. Thank you for this wonderful trip to Scotland ❤
I noticed you were drinking out of a Bunnykins cup , I have four of them which I have coffee or tea in, often! Each one is different.
This was a pure delight. Indeed it was just a few glances but still incredible. What a privilege you have have to be able to go to these places. Your God daughter is lovely.
Oh this Vlog was such a delight...and so varied. Scenery is without a doubt my No. 1 Was a Sunday BIG treat Thank you X
Absolutely beautiful place. 💟☮️
Thank you for taking me on your travels.
you keep going to places I want to own grand historic houses. the only place left in my list is Charleston. I even know the house I want in each place. I will be glad when the new season of DIY is available in Canada! thanx Steph
That was lovely!

Scotland is so magical. Stephanie, I am interested to know when you will turn your attention to your fabulous grounds. Have you thought about asking your wonderful volunteers to erect a greenhouse so you can start pinching cuttings and growing from seed in preparation for when you commence the garden project? Keep the videos coming X

Oh my gosh Stephanie and your friends are hilarious 😂 , I especially loved your stay in Scotland and those sheets amazing ❗👏 I feel deprived enourmously. 🥜😵
Awe, so cool! My two fave chateau tubers
I so enjoy seeing your adventures. I wonder what teas you favor. I was introduced to Harney and Sons Tea - Hot Cinnamon Spice. Now I'm on the hunt for new flavors. Thank you for taking us along.

I’m enjoying one from Kusmi tea at the moment. I think it’s called Sweet Love, but actually it’s a black tea with cloves and spices 😋
Stephanie, when you visited London’s Wallace Collection it drove me back to the time when I Visited it last year at the end of August. That time when there was still the Manolo Blahnik’s Exhibition. I, that time, went afterwards also to V&A to see Dior you visited couple of weeks before me. It was just so spectacular! I think we both love the same beauty. 😄☺️

The Chateau Diaries Thank you dear Stephanie. Yes It was truly spectacular. Actually Manolo is the designer why I really went for shoe design. It was after I met him in Prague 2017 when I was co-preparing his exhibition in Prague. I had the most prestigious time a week with Manolo 😇 So I could speak with him about inspirations, ideas, everything. This gave me the fuel to work on it from my point of view. Now I’m finishing my master in shoe design! And I love it ! ❤️ Let me reach you on instagram. 👠😉
Oh ! The first tune the harpist is playing is Maggie West's, a modern folk tune :D
I would never make it there as all the chocolate you eat. I have an allergy to it. I do enjoy your vlogs.
This delights my little Celtic soul! Xx
Stephanie is the best comedian 💜❤ exquisitely beautiful vlog
Maybe you could consider putting a spray nozzle on the bottle so you're able to spray the Brandy over the cake just a thought
Seeing these castle walls, I automatically feel like picking up a trowel and brush and working on the fillers . . . been watching too many castle restoration videos.
What a beautiful place you visited, fantastic adventure as always. Best wishes from 🇦🇺
edging closer to a FULL REVEAL! hahahha

My Country 😀😀
👍👍💕
That countryside is absolutely magnificent. And what is a 'ham and sellarian' sandwich.?
@samialabi

It’s ham and celeriac. Celeriac is a variety of celery
Or tried Haggis on toast in a castle on Isle of Skye, absolutely gaelic chic cooking 😉😊
Must I really grate chocolate wearing a silver lame skirt? Shouldn't there a masculine equivalent for us guys? The scenery you shared spectacular, Scotland is one of my favorite places. And where can I buy one of those garlic ornaments?!
11:21-11:22 is that elusive nick in the reflection of the store window. You can see reflection appears near the lady’s head that opens the door. It’s only for a second. Hmmm :)
Very nice!
I like that ear listening to you at 14:37 lol👂
❤
My mum loved Dalwhinnie!! I'd love to know where that walk was? Xx
Stephanie, could you please share with us the name of the castle you stayed in in Scotland please? My husband and I would love to go there someday, and it looks absolutely perfect! You make every trip look like the best trip ever… I love that about you!

It was a beautiful castle, with lovely food (I recommend asking for a picnic from them if you go for a walk). It’s called Inverlochy Castle it’s in Fort William
@Brinta3
4 жыл бұрын
It’s the Inverlochy Castle Hotel, built in the 19th century. So not actually a castle, just built in an older style because that was in fashion. The actual 13th century ruined Inverlochy Castle is two miles away. I loved visiting the castle; it really looks like a strong fortress. It’s basically a square of walls, with a tower at each corner. Google it!
❤💖❤
Is Nick running from the law?😂
