The Channel Islands during the Second World War

In this short history documentary I presented the situation of the Channel Islands during WW2, when their territory was occupied by the German forces, from 30 June 1940 until their peaceful liberation after the German surrender on 9 May 1945. Before the arrival of the Germans, the islands were demilitarized and declared an open town. The Bailiwick of Jersey and Bailiwick of Guernsey were the only part of the British Isles to be occupied by the Wehrmacht. The Germans built a lot of fortifications and bunkers, the islands being part of the Atlantic Wall. The Channel Islands were better defended than the Normandy beaches, and after the D-Day landings and the liberation of Normandy in June 1944, the allies decided to bypass the Channel Islands due to their heavy fortifications. On 9 May 1945, HMS Bulldog arrived in St Peter Port, Guernsey, and the German forces surrendered unconditionally aboard the vessel at dawn.

I’m a Guernsey man born and raised . Part of my family stayed while the other half evacuated to England . No body now would know what it’s like to have their freedom taken away . A friend of mine who stayed like part of my family said when the liberation forces came said to soldiers . We are so glad you’ve come . We’ve waited so long

Broadly speaking this is mostly correct but you do have a few howlers in the photos that are just wrong. See the ship coming in 1944 to try and secure surrender which you show as a large ship but the reality was it was a small launch,

The island's are British, the French fought for them hundreds if years ago and lost. They've been crown dependencies of the UK since. I'm from Jersey myself.

🌺Devi Padmavathi🌺(Goddess of snakes) is my father. Yes it is true. I have born by her blessing. For example I am like Karna ( in the "Mahabhartha") who was born by the blessing of Lord Surya. If you want any proof please come at Guma Manasa Bare ( very famous temple of my father) in West Bengal and ask here. Here my father comes every Sunday. I not only want that people knows my truth but also I want that everybody knows my father's power and nobility. Belief or unbelief is your matter. Don't write nor think any hate speech about my father and serve her. My father blesses you. Thank you so much.🌹🍒🌹💖🌹
