I love my new 455, too. It is the easiest saw to start that I have. I start it from the standing position because it starts so easy. Several pulls in full choke and it rolls over. Several pulls in high speed and she is running. I have cut up to 24 inch maple with the 455 with no difficulty. It is also lighter than my other 56 cc class saws and is more powerful than my ms 290. I am very pleased with my 455 Rancher.

this may be a dumb question but curious why you pulled the pull cord out just a little before killing it?

My Husqvarna has been the best chainsaw I have ever owned! To all of you Stihl lovers, my Husky eats them up period!! RPM's cut wood and Husqvarna's eat through wood while your Stihl's do nothing but bog down. Anyone that bashes these saws have never owned one or never maintained the one they did own. You simply cannot compair any other saw to these! Like anything, you must MAINTAIN it. It cannot sit for 7 years and without being used then you all complain about it leaking fuel or oil.

I'm interested (not to press the point to aggravate, but out of sincere curiosity), in asking you to explain how MORE "wear" is achieved by NOT holding the Starter Cable out when shutting down the saw. Perhaps you could take a moment to explain the mechanics of this concern?

My ms291 has an 18" bar but I tried one of my 24" bars on it and it has all kinds of power to pull it, just don't need a bar that big. Always used a 18 in bar on my saws because it just suits me better because maybe the biggest logs I cut are 18 inches or 20. The ms291 is a great saw in my logging business, it's my go to saw. 291 is a 56cc saw.

10 yrs old and still fires on the 3rd or 4th pull. STIHL is better but this one runs awesome especially in the cold down to like zero F. I have Always used canned pre- mix. Like I said 10 yrs and never been to a shop.

I know for a fact that I was a Stihl defender until I owned a husky 435 then Husky 450 rancher ...I never looked back....Stihl has copied the anti vibration from husky and a number of other features.

I won't buy a Stihl based strictly on color. Who in their right mind would put white on a piece of equipment that's gonna get oil and gas spilled on it and eventually turn yellow over time? Even the older blue ones are a better idea than white.

Hi Chainsaw guy. Hope you see this soon. We've spoke on the phone a couple times. I repair small engines in VA. Anyway I was wondering if you knew the part numbers for the TWO different size clutch tools for Poulans. I have one which fits the smaller clutches (with the 2 spanner type round nubs on them. I went to work on a PP5020AV and the span was not wide enough. Problem is when you go to buy them online they all look the same without part numbers. I measured 24mm from ctr to ctr I just dont remember if thats the one I have or thats the larger size I need. Can you help?

@crazyjdkid the 455 rancher is a 1 ring piston and the stihl ms290 is a 2 ring and to say which 1 is better is a arguement that will go on for years all saws have their good and bads about them. i own both a 455 husqvarna and a stihl 029 super (same as the ms290). I have done a few mods on the 455 and nothing to the 029. Just remember if u do any mods to a saw be sure to have the carb set right dont want to lean it out to much it will destroy the piston.

I bought the 455 Husqvarna rancher saw in 2015, Billings Mt. eleven months later the oil leaks started. the dealers repair mans' wife said we don't do warranty's, we don't get paid! So I gave it back to the dealer's saw man who said he would take care of the warranty and repair the saw. they told me it had bailer twine wrapped on the drive shaft. it cost me $124.50 to get it back. now laying on my steel flat bed truck for months the oil leak has spread out to 40 inches x 54 inches.
