Sorry I can't edit my comments, I always enjoy your analyses of the comic market, for I feel you're a genius in this area, seriously, you have your finger on the pulse of the comic book world 🌎!!! You are a great guy who really knows his business and fortunately is also great enough to share that knowledge with others!!! I mean you must have a fortune which rivals BRUCE WAYNE. ONLY WHERE IS YOUR BAT CAVE, BAT MOBILE, BAT BOAT, AND BAT COPTER KEPT!!! GaryBailey KingofDarkness

Allan, you have mentioned in the past that demand and prices have been coming back down to normal. The census growing so much will mostly affect the prices of books that aren't so popular. Hulk #181 won't go down too much because it is so highly sought-after. When looking at the census, you can tell some of these books are not as rare as you might initially think. I enjoyed this video and wouldn't mind seeing more like it. By the way, Happy Father's Day.

I agree with you on the census and comic books you look for. I, luckily, am not really concerned with flipping books or going after keys for the most part. If I like the cover on a book or it has some nostalgic value to me, I'll go after it. Especially if it's Golden Age where 95-98% of my purchases are. Stuff like Hulk #181 isn't a book I'd go after - especially with all the scams, CPR, etc. going on with it. When I look at the census for that, I don't know how much of the census is just due to people CPR'ing existing slabs. So when I see CGCData data and see that 7 new slabs for "x" grade are there - are they really 7 new slabs or 7 old CPR'ed slabs or 4 of them are CPR'ed. Who knows. CPR has kind of wrecked the data a bit but maybe not as much as I'm trying to make it out to have. lol. As for Hulk #181 not going down so much because it's so sought-after, I think it's been taking a beating the last few months. Most of the lower-grade to mid-grade prices seem to have dropped something like 33-50% or so the last I looked.

Great video and analysis, but I think the cencus is nowhere near accurate and can't even be used for a rough guide at this point on alot of key books. There is no way to quantify the number of books of a particular grade have been cracked, pressed and resubmitted and the old label not "turned" in. The vast majority of books that are re-submitted to get a bump are done so by 3rd party pressers. Think bout how many vidoes you see of pressers that still have that old label in their posession when showing off the grade bump they achieved. At one point in time I alone had 8 New Mutant 98 labels between the 8.0 and 9.4 that I cracked/cleaned/pressed and resubmitted. On these bigger books, like the 181, when a .5 bump could add significant value, this scenario plays out even more frequently. It wouldnt surprise me if the total number of hulk 181's actually still in slabs is 75% or less of what the reported total cencus is.

I'm investing in non-key golden age Detective Comics, Batman, Action Comics. Lower print runs at the end of this golden age. The census is low because not as much demand... but if there's ever a demand for these non-key issues it can't increase that much 🤞

I was planning to show an example of a golden age book. Generally, the census is driven by demand and perceived value. The non-key issues still have enough value that people would get them graded. I just think there aren't many out there.

@@ComicCollectorGeek I believe that key issues aren't going to mean much to genZ & younger (who'll be the ones to determine the value of golden age long term) ...I believe that a beautiful golden age cover will be worth just as much or more to the younger generation. At least that's my long term speculative bet🤞

For me, the lower the census on a book the better... i tend not to buy and keep books that have more than 365 graded copies...i have a specific checklist of books to choose from which makes collecting comics much easier for me 😊

That would really limit you to mostly golden age. Most silver to modern books have well over 1000 books on the census. Though there are exclusive variants that would have low census numbers.

@@ComicCollectorGeek Yup. I collect mostly Golden Age stuff. Every once in a while, I'll venture into the sea of variants and over-hype and buy a modern, but generally it's about 95% Golden Age and about 5% Silver Age nowadays. Although with the way some Golden Age has taken off, I'm starting to look at picking up Silver Age more now, although I don't think their fall is necessarily complete (depending on the title).

takes a lot of demand to absorb the supply coming on the market with bronze/silver and modern books Most golden age comics a little bit more interest and prices skyrocket as copies just dont come up fast enough for many titles. In historical terms gold and silver age comics have pulled each other up If the silver market got overheated then more rare golden age books would get interest Market ran back and forth Think now rare golden age books that you dont see all over the place are getting lot of attention.
