The Cedric West Guitar Quartet: "Bach Goes West" - Full Album (HD)

Музыка

My favourite guitar album of all time, I obtained a commercial reel-to-reel copy in the late 1970's... it having been recorded in 1965 and released as a 'Lansdowne' Production. To say the music is a masterclass in interpretation, restraint, melodic complexity, harmony and execution is an understatement. The album is no longer commercially available, at all, anywhere - so I'm delighted to share it with a new generation of guitar players, appreciators and the global listening audience.
I do not own the copyright to any of this music ('though I have created the visual entirely from scratch) and I seek to make no money from it's distribution/availability here on KZread.
Much is and has been written about Cedric West and his exceptional talent - he has been the inspiration for a number of leading players and remains - to me, at least, one of the finest exponents of delicate, precise, tasteful and enjoyable guitar music EVER. The personnel on the recording is listed below and is taken from the back cover of the original vinyl L.P.
N.B: No small measure of credit is due to the 'accompanying' musicians (bass and drums) who are supremely gifted at their task of enhancing the lead players with a restraint and aplomb regrettably absent from so many instrumental recordings of today.
Here is an excellent article on Cedric, for those wishing to know more - gypsyjazzuk.wordpress.com/36-... Also: here is the 'other' Cedric West album (West Meets East - equally delightful) which is the Mono prequel to this recording. • Cedric West Guitar Qua...

The 'gaps' in-between the pieces are exactly the length as on the original album - the ONLY audio-sweetening has been to silence the record arm/stylus noise between tracks, and an enhancement to the volume/compression, which has been kept to the absolute minimum necessary to optimize the listening experience.
I hope this recording brings as much joy to new and established fans of Cedric and his Guitar Quartet as it has to me over the years.

+jjoywest Wow... I had NO idea that's how you were connected... 'tho it's great to find that out. Thank you for watching and appreciating. I'd REALLY love to get hold of his "West meets East" recording somehow... I've scoured the WORLD for it. If it's even only HALF as much genius as this (and it'll be MUCH more than that, I'm sure!), I'd just love to hear his playing.

It was an unexpected pleasure this morning when a fellow member of a Facebook Guitar Group shared this this morning. He posted a picture of the Original LP Album Cover / Sleeve which he says he picked up at a charity / thrift store. Heard the whole thing. Couldn't stop listening. Thanks for sharing.

You're most welcome. My dad had a small reel-to-reel tape of this album when I was a teenager and the content and tone spoke to me profoundly. I lost track of it but bought a vinyl LP of it years later and put it up on YT. I've a second album 'East Meets West's which is just as good. It's phenomenally fantastic stuff and addictive listening!

Thank you for uploading this album, Jon. I've been listening to a multitude of guitar players since my teenage years and it was only yesterday when I did a 'Bach guitar' search on KZread that I came across Cedric West for the very first time. Wow, he was brilliant!! P.S. I also did some further research and found the 'Gypsy Jazz' page on Mr West before I discovered that you had mentioned it in your blurb. P.P.S. I have since listened to 'West Meets East' which on first hearing is also very good. Thank you again. All the best to you.
