The Catskill Mountain Railroad 8/26/23
It had been a few years since my last visit to the Catskill Mountain Railroad, so I decided to take a trip up to Kingston, NY this Saturday. I found that quite a few things in the area had changed. The Roue 209 crossing has been fully upgraded with brand new automated signals that feature gates and a mechanical bell, the Washington Avenue crossing has just gotten new concrete surfacing and will also eventually be given lights and gates, and a fence has been built between the train and the tracks at the Westbrook station. I was able to get a few shots of the 11AM and 1PM Catskill Mountain Flyer trains.
0:00 RS-1 401 idles on the point of its train as it sits at the Westbrook station awaiting its first departure. A banner can be seen on one of the open-air cars commemorating the railroad's 40th anniversary.
0:23 The 11AM Catskill Mountrain Flyer passes the newly renovated Washington Avenue crossing.
2:48 U.S. Route 209. This crossing has seen a huge upgrade this year, with new signals being installed which feature LED lights, gates, and a WCH mechanical bell. These signals are also fully automated, unlike the older signals which had to be manually turned on and off.
