i’m SO happy rhys is FINALLY getting the recognition he deserves. he is such an incredibly talented guy. i knew these two had great chemistry before the show, but their romantic chemistry was such a wonderful surprise that i was not expecting at all

So SO happy that Rhys finally had a major show to star in, and teaming up with his old friend Taika makes this show absolutely perfect.

I cried so much at the representation in this show. I didn't realize how much queerbaiting had hurt me over the years so experiencing this heartfelt story was just everything. Can't thank Rhys, Taika and everyone included enough ❤

Lmao they really just bounce off each other so well. Really adds to the chemistry of the characters, I think.

This definitely proves how many great lines were improvised. This whole video sounds like the restaurant debate when they’re eating the snake.

This show left me laughing and crying more than any other show has, which was NOT what I expected at all from a “dark pirate comedy” when it first started. PLEASE give us season 2!

Oh so it's not Stede and Ed that love to be insane together, it's Taika and Rhys. Amazing.

Rhys Darby is absolutely brilliant in everything he does.

This show made me laugh and cry. It's so funny, heartfelt, and occasionally heartbreaking. The LGBTQ and BIPOC representation was awesome. The joy I feel at Stede and Ed being canon is unparalleled. Thank you for not queerbaiting us. Our Flag Means Death is my favorite comedy in years. I hope it wins all the Emmy awards. I need season 2 now!

HBO, respectfully, if you do not pick this up for a second season I will come to your offices and start my own nose jar.

Watching their interviews makes me appreciate the improvised banter and eccentricities of their characters on the show and how naturally they embody their characters... I watched a different interview where they discussed that that basically was the idea, they didn't want them to put on big piratey accents and stuff but just wanted to let them be themselves as the characters which I think is great and makes them so real

This couple is so beautiful. Their love story is so precious and heart breaking. I just want them to be happy. After so many boring couples in uncreative shows getting a happy end, I just want one for a great show with characters I love. Just once.

The first one cracks me up, tons of pirates wore eye patches. Had nothing to do with having one eye, old ships were really dark below deck. And they didn’t want candles burning in their wooden ship. So they wore an eye patch on one eye to preserve their night vision in at least one eye. You could go below deck and still see. Was especially useful when attacking other ships.

They have so much chemistry its lovely

Best show ever. I need this representation in my life. Please, please, season 2.

Most of it is made up on the spot if I remember well the hit me in the bulls one was made up by taika

This show feels like a historical moment and I’m so happy to live through it. We need a season 2

This is hands down the best show I have seen in decades. I laughed, I cried... oh boy did I cry. This is the kind of show I wish was around when I was a young man figuring things out. Truly amazing work.

They bounce off each other, humor matching humor. Super sweet friendship lol no wonder they have such good chemistry on the show

this interaction has shown me that the scene with blackbeard and stede talking about their restaurant/gift shop was just improv

I love this show so much!! I was ify at first because I didn't want to invest in another comedy,but after getting to know each character and how they interact with each other is is so perfect, and hilarious. I'll be sad when the season is over, but I pray the creator will get his season two.

Please renew for a second season!! This show is the best thing I’ve seen in years, the cast and crew have created something incredible! Please don’t let this one die

I love this show. It started out as a silly funny strange eccentric folly. By the end I was so enamored with Blackbeard and Steed that I could not stand the thought of no second season. Please bring back more. Everyone is wonderful in this show.

Wasn't the eyepatch thing about making one eye more light sensitive for underdeck use, as opposed to being about missing one eye? I suppose that might be a myth as well, or a hypothesis.

Great conversation. I adored JoJo Rabbit. Taika’s bold take on Hitler as a ‘goofball sidekick’ was surprisingly hilarious. Fantastic end scene and credits with David Bowie singing Heroes in German which he actually wrote in Berlin. I watched it on HBO 😂

That's one of my fave movies because I felt that it was such an original take on the book.

Their chemistry is mindblowing! How could you cancel this gem of a show!?? Shame on you, really. I hope another streamer picks it up to conclude their story.

HBO has really done this show DIRTY. Absolutely NO promotion. Had no clue it even existed until Twitter went crazy near the end. And i have HBO MAX and I’m on there fairly frequently. But all i ever saw them push was that Victorian New York version of downton abbey. And now they’re refusing to renew it for a 2nd season?? After they left it on a major cliffhanger? They wouldn’t have done such things were it straight & everyone knows it. 🙄

Awesome video. A bit of eye patch trivia: they actually *were* commonly worn in the course of working on a ship, but not to cover lost eyes. You wore it on deck over one eye, and switched it to the other eye when you went below deck so you didn't have to wait for your eyes to adjust to adjust to the darkness. Lighting was generally very poor below deck, with only a few oil lanterns to provide a little illumination. The eyepatch trick saved time and prevented accidents.

I was wondering why Rhys’ hair was so messy but apparently this was filmed just after filming so he still has his stede hair but no one to help him style it now lol

Taika's personality is like an insane and out of his mind yet so enjoyable character, love his vibe since always
