@@evacuatedspace6946 Sure …. This got me into analog synths 😁
Wow this is the da da da machine? How legendary 😀 oh and the reverb just thrusts me into the stratosphere🌍
I definitely remember these now that I've seen one. Never had one though.
Excellent! Effects and synths go together like peanut butter and chocolate!
That carpet really ties the room together.

Can't wait till my zoom arrives monday, cheers for this vid .
i so wanted one of these when I was a kid, never could afford one at the time. loved going into Dixons and playing the demo units :) very cool to see it on your video!

Awesome! Cannot recall the VL-1 being massively imported to Brazil, but I got the Casio MT-75, and one day I decided to put it through my bass pedal. WOW That was the day I got interested in getting more synths, grooveboxes and etc. :D
That is incredible, you were not lying.
I still have mine with the casio case. These are awesome Gems.
One of the most versatile pedals ever... Great vid!!
This is so awesome. I still have my old PT-1, which was the model that came after this but unfortunately, it got rid of the calculator, high/low octaves, ADSR and Guitar sounds. I still love my PT-1 cause it was/is the first instrument I ever received from my mom as a child. It led me down my musical path to the musician I am today. I also use ZOOM multi FX pedals for my basses and pairing this ZOOM unit with this keyboard is genius. Anyone thinking that pairing these two together is just pandering to nostalgia and that there are no real practical uses for these sounds is *_SORELY_* mistaken. I can hear lots of tones you played in many modern songs, especially electronic based genres like Darkwave, New Wave Revival, EBM/Industrial, Shoegaze etc. etc. that use those tones as background soundscapes. Awesome video here. Thank you for sharing... _(P.S. Anyone ever tell you your voice is a dead ringer for Malcolm McDowell's voice?)_
I used to hook mine up to my amp too! Had great fun in the 80s with this.
"What I'm going to do ... if your still here." I got a kick out of that one.
great demo!
I have 2 VL-tones and 2 MS-70CDRs. I can’t wait to make some magic with them. Thanks for the inspiration!
I just ordered one to plug into my 4-track. Can't wait!
Yes Doug, YOU could make a really cool track with this👍🎚🎧🎼👽 Looking forward to it😎😉🎹
When I was young I remember having just moved to Peterborough when these came out. Somewhere like the large boots the chemist store or the co op department store (west gate house ) was selling them , someone wanted to look at one and either they or the assistant played the riff from ‘open your heart’ by the human league on it , and I nearly died of sheer amazement

Hi Doug, you probably sold me one of these in the said Hesseys 😄👍🎹 enjoying the Akai Miniak 😉👍
Was my first synth before I could afford a new Korg Poly 800. Still got it gathering dust!
Thanks for the video. I just picked up one of these synths. It sounds beautiful through my Specular Tempus. I will have to pick up the Zoom at some point for all the other effects. You sound a little like Aleister Begg to me.
There’s one of these sat forgotten in the corner of the office at a studio I use. Might get a zoom just to give the old Casio a bit of love :)
Fantasic results.
One of my band buddies had one of these back when it came out and he would play Human League's "Don't You Want Me" which of course, they used on that album, and probably on that track as one of the programmed sounds is a dead ringer.
Genial! Es tremendo lo que se puede hacer con cualquier tipo de teclado conectándolo a un pedal, procesador de efectos o incluso con un cable auxiliar a una pc y usar los efectos de cualquier software, transformándolo en un potente sintetizador. Saludos!
I remember the effects and synthesizers available in the 1970,s. A modular Moog or Synclaviar system would only be accessable to the most famous.
Just found your channel and really enjoying the vids. Can't seem to find anything on the Digitakt or other Elektron gear?
Awesome video !!!! This is incredible the spatial sounds you can make with it. I am a beginner with synth and cables and would like to know what's the others cable is use for? Connected to an amplifier? Thanks for sharing
Inspired by this, I'm getting the Zoom pedal, so I'm also getting a David Bowie edition Stylophone to put through it!
I really wanted one of these, but the Christmas I was hoping to get one the salesman in Dixon’s to, my mum if I was serious about music I should get a chord organ instead. No not a bontempi, but an Antoneli 24 button chord organ. Turned out the buttons were laid out like the bass on an accordion. So while I never got my Casio I did get a career for life.
This was my first synth. I leaned the 5 note Close Encounters jingle. I wish Casio would re-release this. I'm leery of buying this at 43 years old.
Great job. I've had three VL tones. One I lost somewhere? One from a charity shop for £1, a few years ago. and the other off eBay boxed, with case and Manuel. It was amazing at the time. Have you seen Bohemian Rhapsody played on a VL tone.?.It's amazing.. Thanx.
Some of those sounds are like architecture and morality era OMD, and BOC without the tape hiss. 😅 Mine has a crackly volume slider and I haven’t played it for ages. Might have to dig it out.
Mine has gone yellow like that, too.
I still have that Casio today...

I had one of these.
Very clever video. That Zoom EFX Unit could even make cat sound good....hmmmm, there’s an idea...
da da da da . Synth used on a no 1 record.
Can you run a SK-1 through this MS-70DR so we can hear the effects (if you have one). Maybe lay different layers down on some recorder to see how it's done? Thanks for the video. 👍👍👍
And the best thing about the VL Tone is..... there's a CALCULATOR! :D
And i got them both!
I still have that Casio Today
Bought my Roland JX3P from Hessy's, oh and a Yamaha DX27...happy days...
I used to love the Synth dept in Hesseys I bought a Roland D10 there Oh yes and my Casio VL-1. :)
Hey man i need some help, i plugged my vl tone to a small speaker using a lineout and now it only works with the speaker plugged. I saw online something about the instrument muting after plugging it being “the standard” but thats as much as i could find. Thx in advance.
Wow! you can basically plug a potato to that zoom pedal and it will make you good sounds. Good buy then.

How easy is it to sync the Zoom’s rhythmic effects to a tempo from a midi source?
Bought one in October 13, 1980 . 40 years ago, wow! FAVORITE USER PRESET ' 05050505' through my Dallas Arbiter Sound City Mark IV 120 guitar amp stack (6 EL34 tubes!).
do u think it is one of these on Abba Gimme Gimme (layered with strings)
I used to buy my bass strings from Hessey's (got 40% discount every time... ah the good old days) Curly's was better for synths and drum machines though.
cool
Hello Scouser. Did you get it at Hessy's in Liverpool? Ya kidding? Gosh, the cathedral in the Holy Land where the 4 Gods used to get instruments. Awesome.

will this improve drum sounds also? thx in advance !
Was that a very tiny bit of the DS9 opening I heard?!
Very very nice from 12:15 to 14:15.
Yeah had great fun with this when it was released i thought it was the bees knees. made great sounds using the ADSR function etc.. and the 1 key play function was a great feature, hours and hours of fun and still have room for it even now, and lets not forget the most famous use of this device in the song Da Da Da by Trio :D
LOL Hessey's. Spent a good deal of time dossing round there and Rushworths as my mate could actually play guitar and keyboard.
Hahaha, this is genius!!!
What, in your opinion, do you think is the best "crappy" casio to own? I am in love with the garbage quality keyboards - they have such a unique sound!

I feel exactly the same! There's nothing like them. I have the Casiotone 202 which has some really great, bad tones, haha. With effects pedals it can make some truly unique sounds. And I just bought this Casio VL 1, so I can't wait to mess around with this thing!

1981? I got my for christmas in 1979.
you can go further by running the output of this little synth into the ext input of a synth something like a like a Bass station 2 and also run your effects chain after the BS 2 or synth with a ext input for awesome sounds....just saying.
I'm newbie, I'm want to buy some cheap Casio keys, I found the Akai MPK, can I use it (Akai MPK) with the zoom ms-70cdr? Thanks

I've never understood why Casio never followed it up with enhanced models. It's the only keyboard they ever made with the ADSR.
