The Case Against SBF | Judging Sam: The Trial of Sam Bankman-Fried | Michael Lewis

Ойын-сауық

Sam Bankman-Fried's trial starts today in the formidable Southern District of New York, with Judge Lewis A. Kaplan presiding. If convicted, the former multi-billionaire and CEO of crypto exchange FTX could spend the rest of his life behind bars. In this episode, Michael talks with court reporter and producer Lidia Jean Kott and former Southern District of New York prosecutor Rebecca Mermelstein, now a defense attorney with O'Melveny and Myers, about the charges against Sam and what we might expect as the trial gets underway.

Why does it seem like Michael Lewis, who is so good at summarizing people, seem to be arguing that Sam actually meant well.

These people threw all the money in the world at him. Yet they are using. A black woman venture capital group for giving $20,000 loans to other black women.

Honestly, he should write another book, titled: “Judging Gary, Caroline, and Nishad.” I’d be *much* more intrigued.

9:40 if the “loss amount” is important, what happens when the only losses are caused by trial lawyer fees? It looks like there won’t be any losses except for trial lawyer fees. Then SBF might only need to serve 10 years or so.

Am I the only person who finds the continual use of "Sam" to refer to SBF jarring, and even unprofessional?

Yes. Even during SBF’s “golden days,” it was not particularly uncommon, inside and outside the cypto industry, for people to refer to him as Sam.
