I believe every single person who has heard Karen sing has been touched in a special and beautiful way. Unkind words spoken by a critic fueled her desire to be anything other than herself, and her obsession to be "perfect" is what took her life away. It should teach us all to be kind to one another, for we are ALL PRECIOUS...💗

The Carpenters would recruit childrens' choirs in various regions that they were touring in to perform this song in concert. There's a video of this song live in Japan. Check it out. The true meaning of "sharing" their music.

Great reaction. Never apologize for loving her voice. You have excellent taste. Yes, it was incredibly sad when she died. I remember the news broadcast in 1983 when I was 23. Even to this day I wonder what she she would accomplished an already phenomenal career without having to reinvent herself as many artists do.

I was born two years after Karen Carpenter died, and I've been haunted by her phenomenal voice since I first heard it 16 years later. Her voice is so beautiful that I actually regret not having been alive when she was. Rest in peace, angelic Karen. I also suffer from an eating disorder so I understand her pain. As heavenly as Karen's voice was, what everyone forgets is that she was first and foremost a drummer... an amazingly, incredibly talented drummer whose voice just happened to be from the Gods. Even today, she's regarded as one of the world's foremost female drummers (see watchmojo).

I was 10 years old when they were really popular. It's part of the background music of my childhood. As kids we heard their music everywhere, shopping malls, car radio, dentist offices etc. Karen had the voice of an angel who had fallen to earth from heaven and blessed us with her voice. It could send shivers through your body. Beloved by millions!

This song came out in 1971 and was used by Seasome Street. Sing" is a 1971 song written by Joe Raposo for the children's television show Sesame Street as its signature song. In 1973, it gained popularity when performed by the Carpenters, who made it a #3 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. I was 10 years old at the time....and this was one of those songs by Karen that captured my heart at that time and I was hooked. Nothing more need to be said. Her Angelic voice made her the # 1 female vocalist of all time in recorded music.

When the Carpenters toured they would bring in children’s choir on stage at each city they performed. They thought it was so important to instill music in children’s lives. What an expression of love and fantastic way to create a lifelong memory for a child.

Much like you, though decades earlier, the Carpenters' music always lifted my spirits when I was feeling down. I'm sure they did that as well for millions of their fans. I was in my mid-20s when Karen died in the early 80s. It was like a punch in the gut hearing the news. I was in the second grade when this song came out, and I thought it was cool that they used children's voices(I later realized that it was a children's choir). Karen was still a decade before her death, and I had a crush on her even then, sight unseen. They say that when she sang without a microphone, you could barely hear her, even if you were in the room - that's how soft her voice was.

I myself and a big fan of Karen and enjoying your reactions to the Carpenters. Such a fantastic fluid voice with so much range it's incredible.

Sesame Street? She also sings 'The Rainbow Connection' originally sung by The Muppets.

“Comfort food” for the ears. Karen’s voice was like a warm blanket. I love the variety of your channel. Keep it up! In that spirit, I’d like to recommend a band for you. I don’t see any Rush reactions in your list. They are a Canadian prog rock band with a huge catalog. Give them a try man! Tom Sawyer was their biggest hit and is a good place to start. Other suggestions: The Spirit of Radio, Xanadu, New World Man.

I know how you feel! I love her voice, and when I get on youtube and see that you are hearing one of her songs for the first time, I can't hardly wait to see your face. Her voice stops you cold and you cannot help but listen to the song and still want more. I love the Carpenters, always have and always will. This song I heard for the first time when I was in high school, it is a fun song!
