Ngl, that hug between him and Suter at the end of the Dallas series brought some feels out. I can only wish that Kirill was on the Wild at the same time as him and Suter in their primes; maybe they could’ve won the cup

Him and DeBoer was such a throw back. You could see the respect DeBier has for him from their time as devils
Not sure how the Parise Suter story line was not talked about more during this series, especially since they both were pretty prominent for their respective teams. So busy talking up their wagers they forget to talk about the real stories around the game we all love!

Brodeur actively tried to recruit Sutter to NJ but he didn’t want to play on the East Coast. So Zach “followed” Sutter to the Wild. If they both come to NJ they may have won the cup over the next two years back then

@chenry15 No. Not at all. I knew Zach during his time in NJ Zach was NEVER staying in NJ period. Zach had just gotten engaged and wanted to settle down and raise a family NJ was NOT on the list. Zach took the money to go home and be his extended family so he could start his own. Simply as that.

@@chenry15 As much flak as I personally have given Suter, I am truly glad to have him, he has been solid for the most part if unspectacular. Which is exactly what the blue line had needed. A steady consistent presence to play along side Miro. Parise can still play too. I was surprised at the jump he had. Truly hope he gives it one more shot. Just not with the Av's lol

@@yoholmes273 Then you also know about his "BS" saying how he wanted to play for a winner. I would have respected if he had just told NJ he wanted to go home before accepting the team Captaincy, making the Stanley Cup Finals and bolting immediately. And both Parise and Brodeur have admitted what Brodeur was attempting to do in keeping him and getting Sutter. Just to be clear I never said Zach was staying.
Parise to me is like, a prototypical "hall of very good" kind of player, he had notoriety around the league during his peak for his skills, over 400 goals, over 400 assists, over 1000 games with lots of longevity and a reasonably decent playoff resume even without that cup. Best of luck in the future Zach!
I want Parise to sign again with with 35 games left so he can have an easy season on the body and have another crack at it. He was 100% still a really good 3rd line guy.
Zach broke my heart when he left Jersey. I understood why but god it hurt he was one of my three favorites. Still...once a Devil...always a Devil.

My favorite player growing up. Being a Minnesota fan I loved his grit character. I was at the game vs the Blackhawks when Parises Father JP passed away and they had a memorial for him. I hope he comes back for one honestly so he can get his cup
Zach Parise in the Vancouver Olympics is what got me watching hockey from having no exposure to hockey prior to that. Then I started watching wild games when he went to Minny and have been a Wild fan since. ZP was my gateway into all things hockey, and this channel.
Imagine if Parise decides to come back lol

I think he should do the same he did this year. Take the first half/ 2/3rds of the season off and come back at the end and the playoffs for the Avs again.
One of my favorite players to watch. His "never-say-die" style of play was infectious.
His legacy would look a lot better if his last second goal to make it 2-2 in the gold medal game resulted in a USA win. I would argue that a gold showing in 2010 would make him a hall of fame candidate.
I hated that Zach got away from NJ, but it was understandable, and I think a lot of fans respected that he wanted to help legitimize his hometown team. He had a grit to his game that was bigger than his size, and it probably cost him a good number of games, but I really enjoyed watching him.
This guy got punished in front of opposition nets and kept grinding. Always dug his honey badger style.
One of my favorite players all time. Always gave it 100% every game, even if he didn't put up points all the time. Going to miss seeing him on the ice a lot
He was playing so good in the 1st round. His line was unstoppable versus the Jets. I feel like he has some hockey left in him. I hope he gives it another go with the Avs late in the year next year. Remember Bourque... He didn't get it in his first try with the Avs. He had to commit to coming back and trying again. I really think history could repeat itself if Parise finds the desire for another shot.
Marty Brrdrr
First time I saw Parise play was when I was a kid at a North Dakota game in Denver. What a player and what a career.
as a devils fan I still have resentment towards him given how he left the team not dissimilar to the tavares situation with the islanders he never came back for a redemption arc like gomez

Excellent career video shannon!
One of my favorite players of all time
That's a very good career. Doesn't get much attention having played for the Devils and Wild for such a long stretch.
Argument could be made that he was the best offensive player in Devils history up until their current crop. 45 goals in 08 could be looked at as 60 today. Easily a top 10 player in the league during those years and its a bummer he never got a Cup in NJ. He had some really good seasons after leaving but I dont think he ever lived up to that contract with the Wild. Injuries played a major role and honestly I'm shocked he had played as long as he has. I think he definitely would've gotten 500 goals if he stayed healthy throughout his career.
When the devils played the kings in the cup finals in 2012 it was the first time in the history of the NHL where the captain of both teams were Americans. Praise for the Devils and Dustin Brown for the Kings
I remember we (the Red Wings) really wanted him to try and push for another cup towards the end of the holland years
I say he makes the US HoF at least.
Parise had a good career so it sucks that the first thing you think of is injuries and his contract. I remember him in the Olympics and his last season in New Jersey as the highlights. As a wild fan I don't know if there is much memorable stuff from his time with us. He was a hustle player and great two way player but he was not the elite offensive guy that we needed him to be.
The one and only Captain America for me.
I really want him to change his mind and come back and play with the Avs for one more season. Though I respect his decision, I feel he came to us for that chance at the cup and was let down. For the sake of Avs fans, I won’t mention who let him down, but I think we all know who I’m referencing. Zach, if you’re reading this comment! Come back to the Avs for one more year, if we don’t get you a cup, you can go then! Haha
He made my childhood top 10 list as a devils fan
Thanks Shannon. Always enjoyed watching him play. Hated him cuz he always made my teams pay. Lol. Are you still considering doing a Silfverberg video
Shannon can we have a Henrik Zetterberg career video?
Shannon with the fresh buzz bc he’s already anticipating losing it all for Stars v Canucks next round
Will he get his number retired? No, absolutely not. And he didn't accomplish enough in NJ to make the Ring of Honor before he left either. Devils fans are also split on either liking him for the efforts he gave on the ice or despising him for how he left (I appreciated what he gave and understood his choice. The way mgmt handled Kovy's future vs Zach's extension eligibility was night and day). Wild fans hate the contract and what that did to their team, so that's a definite 'no' on any honor. Still a hell of a career, and I'll always remember his Devils days/2010 Olympics fondly.

Devils would officially jump the shark if they do that. It should be left the way it is for awhile. I cant imagine a Zach retirement jersey night and half the crowd booing him lol. He's not a Devil. Let his "home team" in Minny retire his number

The most he would get would be is a one day and even then he will get jeers. So many others deserve retirements or ring of honors, including Chico, Gionta, Gomer, Zajac, Salvador, and Green to name a few over Parise.

He is just an another player who played for the Devils... unfortunately, the legacy is not there... He was excellent player for Devils, people loved him and then he broke their hearts... Yes, logically it was okay, emotionally - nope...
I dont know if you did a career video on his Dad but he also had a terrific carrer . Played in 72 summitt series got thrown out of last game, and as a ranger fan and im old scored a goal in ot to eliminate rangers . That goal put islanders on the map.
Parise should have been an Islander for life. His father loved playing there. Unfortunately, at the time, the GM situation was God awful.
I have a lot of respect for Zach Parise. He has always been one of my favorite American-born Hockey players and I believe that he is a lock to get inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. I wouldn't be surprised if his number is retired by the Devils cuz he's one of the names that first comes to mind when you think of great Devils players over the years. Good luck to him in retirement. I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes a coach down the line too.

He would definitely slot in as an excellent hardworking bottom six forward who has a lot of leadership. Very good move by Colorado if they persuade him to come back.
I know he played longer in Minnesota and it's been over 10 years since he played in NJ, but when I think of Parise, I think of him as a devil
And he still gets 10M+ from the buyout after retirement, pretty nice.
He should have joined Detroit when he left Jersey.
It was alright.
Its odd that you dont mention the value of the contract or cap hit. 13 years is a long ass time, but whats the cap hit?
Wouldn’t the min contract have cap recapture?
2 point per game or better seasons. Awful contract from Minnesota. He never quite lived up to his potential for me.

If not bought out he would have retired before this season and left Minnesota with 2 years of even worse cap hell than they've seen, as Bettman intended.
After the screw job Lou did in 2011-12, I’m still surprised that Parise willingly went back to his less-than-loving embrace.
Parise scored that goal in 1975 .

That is what I was trying to say here.
I would guess there's a 0% chance he gets his number retired by an NHL team. Devils fans are split on him, but he didn't spend nearly enough time there or achieve enough with them to even be considered. And he never lived up to his contract with the Wild obviously.
Zach Parise has such a good career but his accomplishments kind of make very high mid career.. nothing memorable after that 2011-12 season.. As a Devils fan, sometimes I wish he stayed but I understand why he didnt..
Too bad he and Suter were cancer in the locker room.
All I'll remember him from is when he cried about the Blues "bullying" him.
Zach was a COMPLETE coward and POS IMO. He talked about wanting to win and then bolted NJ when they were in the Staney Cup Finals. I will never discredit a player for wanting to go home, but Parise was not forthright with the Devils. Especially considering he was the team, Captain. He should have been a real man and said he wanted to go home. Instead, he went to Minnesota and never Sniffed another Stanley Cup opportunity. Good player, but he was way overpaid and i am glad he never won a Cup.
Who the hell signs a 13 yr deal in professional sports? you won’t see that mistake again thanks to suter and parise

I liked Parise and wasn’t mad that he left, but that’s far from unanimous sentiment. Still, you’re overvaluing what he did. He was Scott Gomez without the cups. The way his career played out, he’ll always be more closely associated with the Wild, good or bad.

@@Mike-ge7peIf he resigned with the Devils like Gomer did to redeem himself, I would say retire his number. IDK why he would have walked back to Lou being he botched his extension and did the Kolvachuck nonsense, but he did and played with Isles retirement home. I Love him, but hate him.
