The main reason people think that is because the show is edited to show it from the victims perspective. This means we cannot see how he does some of the things that he does leading it to seem very scripted. It isn't but that's the reasoning.

I believe that they somewhat control who comes in to the filming location by working behind the scenes to have someone hired to run an errand, make a delivery etc. The person themselves do not know they are on a show or what they are walking in to, but I think that is how they force some of the scenarios to take place. A lot of planning and the result is BRILLIANT!! love it.

As a Japanese person and seafood lover, Id be delighted if my water came with some free shrimps. I would make some takikomi gohan in my rice cooker with them.

On one hand it's cool to see how someone would accept something, no matter how crazy, because they actually saw it happen: it's very open-minded. On the other hand, a bit of skepticism is needed: sadly there's always someone willing to take advantage of people. :)
