Great interview by The Captain. He let the man speak without interuption and the stories flowed forth.
My bass playing heart almost exploded when I saw his name!
Thank you for your kind words, Marcus! BTW, even though I was working in the Philly area for 5 years before I started my NYC shop, I am a native New Yorker!

Another legend of bass appears. I was allowed to play an NYC custom 21 last year - probably the most gorgeous basses I ever played. Sadly I'd need to sell off the wife and kids to be able to afford it but I can always dream.

Love my RV5. It leaves nothing wanting.
When I met my wife she put on a Luther Vandross CD. I recall that moment I turned to her and said "That's Marcus Miller playin the bass". She looked at me and said Who's Marcus Miller. I asked her who's Luther Vandross? Years later after raiding all her CD's and becoming a fan of all these other artists we both got to met Marcus while travelling the USA. I recall him asking a question and I replied saying I can tell pretty much every time that he's playing on a track and then explained the time my wife played Vandross. He asked me what bass I play. (75 J bass) and he said, you know it's the player that makes the sound and I just nodded. It's so true. The bass is just a canvas, Marcus is the amazing painter. P.S. I got to see him play Run for Cover and I will never forget it.
The Captain is the quintessential interview master. He needs is his own channel. Absolutely love his style and knowledge as well as ability to get the artist to share. Well done again!

He does have his own channel. He just doesn't upload on there an awful lot
A history lesson from someone who really lived it. This was amazing
What a great interview. Marcus must have played with just about everybody at least once. Seems like a stand up guy too.
Love Marcus, and the line when he is asked 'when did you decide to put your own band together?' And he replies 'Miles Died.' Huge miles fan, he must have picked up so much from him.
I had the chance to meet Marcus Miller twice, before and after a concert, once at the Seine Musicale in Paris and once at the Blue Note in New York. How not to be surprised by the fact that this great artist with his worldwide fame and his talent can remain so accessible, attentive and coupled with great kindness? Certainly a great lesson to give to artists whose emerging success goes to their heads ! My choice fell on the Sire U5 short scale, an excellent choice for learning the bass when you are a complete beginner !
The genius of Bass Guitar! An amazing musician!

The genius.Base is just one thing he likes more. But ,as you probably know ...he plays mostly anything.
Thank you Lee for a respectfully warm interview of a graceful, soulful and talented human being.
What an absolute legend. I really enjoyed the interview. Dare I say, one of the Captain's best so far. MM is a genius and a gent. Fantastic.
I've allways loved his music. He is one of my biggest idols. "Blast" is one of the coolest tunes ever.
Best interview I've seen in ages!! Marcus comes across so natural and humble... absolute legend!
It's so awesome hearing stories from an actual legend!
If you hit thumbs down on this man, you don't know anything about the bass. Marcus Miller is LEGEND. He's such a badass on his instrument. THANK YOU for this awesome episode!!!
My first exposure to Marcus and Omar Hakim was the Sunday night show when they did See the Light with Jeff Healey and Dr. John.... Absolutely classic jam!!! Best live TV I ever seen!!!
That was such a f'n awesome video. Great job. Marcus is sooooo cool. Nice. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Such a legend and what a heartwarmingly modest man!
Marcus Miller is such a humble guy. How amazing for Lee to get to jam with Marcus Miller. Enjoyed it Lee as I also do with your jams with Nathan.
A living legend, bass god in the 🏠. Big fan of Marcus Miller's music, his Sire basses are excellent.
"All felt so natural. I played with this world-famous musicians"................ "When I was 21........" - You can not beat this :-)
There is everything about Marcus Miller that makes you feel humble as a musician.
What a musician and what a life!
Always great to watch interviews of Marcus Miller. He is a gentle person and a legendary musician
Best interview I’ve yet seen. Marcus really knows how to draw the listener in. Pure magic magnetism. Cheers.
Forever funky! We love you Marcus.
Thank you for this whole thing, but also for including some of the jam w Lee. Does my heart good as his joy is so radiant 🤩
This is such a great interview, Lee ! Thank you for letting Marcus tell all these amazing stories. It is a master piece !
Brilliant interview, great work Captain!! 2 legends in one room!
I love these interviews. What an absolute legend. Awesome job Captain \m/
Haha. Playing bass along side Marcus Miller. No pressure. Fantastic interview by the way. One of the best vids Andertons have posted. Hopefully there will be more like this in the future.
I was lucky enough to meet Marcus at Gerald Veasley's Bass Bootcamp. Of course his playing was brilliant. he was also just a cool guy to talk to. A true master of the Bass guitar.
So cool humble guy with very good real stories!
Great interview as always, Lee, and jesus your level of quality for guests is insane!
The Captain's interviewing chops just keeps getting better and better. It is so cool to hear Marcus' story direct from the source. And Lee must have been just beside himself to be jamming with Marcus!
What a charming man! I (as a guitarist) first came to love his music from the Kevin Eubanks album Face To Face. I love his “sod the gear, I’m busy playing music” approach. Very refreshing
Marcus is amazing, such depth to his talent and such vast experience! Also, great work on the interview Lee - you've got a really warm and deft touch with it :)
One of the best interviews I've seen on this channel, well done, and cheers!
What a great video! Well done Lee for letting the great man tell his amazing story.
A true true legend. This was a joy to listen to and watch.
How did I miss this!!!!! THE MAN!
…Had never watched this channel, he lets his guests tell the story. Happy to see him give Jermaine his props for playing and singing live!
Wow Captain!!! Excellent job, man. This is going down as one of your best.
Double Marcus from Andertons! Yes! What an absolute legend!
What a great guy....and has gave a massive amount of fine work to music , I can see he's still got the passion in buckets loads which is great to see , and he knew and played with the late great genius of bass Jaco Pastorius , Jaco and Hendrix are my two top musicians , if you haven't seen 'Jaco' the Dvd Film docu about his life then watch it.....Robert Trujillo helped with the film....thanks Lee for a great interview...
Been waiting for this ever since MarkBass's FB page shared a pic from the Andertons studio like two weeks ago, haha. I wasn't disappointed. What an absolute legend.
This was an amazing interview with an amazing virtuoso, legendary stuff Captain!
Great interview, awesome time really enjoyed it, thanks.
What a great interview ! Well done Lee and Marcus !
i was waiting for this! Thank you!
Great interview!Amazing musician! Thumb up for mr. Miller
Wow! Listening to his early days was like listening to my life. Yes our ears were our best friends!
The best interview 👌
I played the V3 2nd generation yesterday, it fitted like a glove, on the P bass that I played I often was wrong with my fingers with the V3 it was all spot on, great bass, love it, saving up for one.
What a Legend! Please keep on moving on that direction, Mr. Captain!
This is possibly the best video I've seen from the Andertons's stable. Keep up the good work!
Great interview and discussion.
Great interview!
Love Marcus, why isn't this guy hugely world famous? Thanks for the interview Cap'n.

As good as expected and absolutely one of the best you've done Lee (and there have been some VERY good ones)! Could have gone on for another hour easy and I would have watched every second and wanted more!
Fantastic interview! Easy and relaxed.
Kudos to captain , great interview ,
Marcus is pure class!
I've been tellin' these kids for years..., Larry Graham!!! However, Carol Kaye did have some pretty good books on electric bass in the 1970s, but those were mainly for pick playing.
What a legend!!! Great interview!
This is great. Marcus is a supremely talented player and a good guy with some very interesting stories to boot :-)
AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!! merci

Marcus should teach ignorant people about the great Music and the great bass players that are NOT crap bands like rhcp or les claypool but immense artists like chaka khan..brothers johnsons...earth wind and fire....mtume...t-connection---kool and the gang ...level 42....etc...
@InvictusBananman
5 жыл бұрын
@@margix1172 well that is an opinion. But i think different. Les Claypool has a lot to teach about music, and is friendly and humble guy. But if i wanted to suit your argument, i'd love to hear what Richard Bona has to say
@margix1172

@@InvictusBananman Les claypool can be a great person but I don't like the way he play and the music he does, bass is mainly a disco-funk instrument and the bands I have cited are only a fraction of the greatest music ever made in that genre.
LOVE HIM!
I'm sure that Marcus has said his story many times before, but Lee always has the knack of making the interviews fresh. Another Andertons winner. See you when I visit in August Andertons.

I've never heard Marcus talk this much in my life, and I first heard him on Lenny White's "Big City" album and that was one 30 second interlude on that album in '77.

One of the best interviews
One of my absolute legends that luckily is still alive!
Marcus and I went to the same H.S. he (along with Omar Hakim, drums) both graduated about 3 years before I got there! Also, Paul Stanley from Kiss Graduated from this same H.S about 8 years earlier!.
Awesome!
The jamming in the end is really good!
Fantastic interview Lee!
This is so cool. I love this channel!
Best interview yet Lee.... thanks
Really good interview, totally engaging - good work.
Yes!
You just know that Lee went around smiling his teeth out for a week after that jam in the end... i got to play with Marcus :D
I'm a guitar player but god damn this guy is a true legend, and now that I feel more comfortable about my guitar skills I think is time to learn the bass. I'm gonna get me one of those babies.
16:19 I think he's talking about Jump to It. The groove on that is so fire.
This guy is one of the coolest bassists there have ever been. Definition of cool.
His brilliant bass playing in "Rio Funk" (Lee Ritenour) was my first encounter!
It's a good time to let Marcus know how Captain REALLY feels about slapping da bass and bassist in general.
Is this the first bassist on Captain meets? Also 5 minutes in and already loving this!

Yess! The best Bandleader I can think of. Heard him live many times. Impressed me again and again. Has to be that Miles Davis school. Really amazing how he keeps the bands he plays with together Plus: his tone and playing style (even Improvisation always sounds composed with Miller) is utterly fantastic on records.

Maybe the best "Meets..." ever! He's so cool!
Not really into bass, but this was great. Thanks, guys. Cheers
Man one of the best Captain Meets yet
Wow! What a great life he's had so far. Charmed.
Cool another OK “ Organist Kid”. But also a PK “Preachers “Kid”. With his Grandfather being a Pastor. Always enjoy hearing Marcus play and equally enjoy him in interviews and when telling stories.
Such a nice guy.
