I’m sure it wasn’t them being half a century behind Europe technologically and never industrializing. The destroyers the Ottoman Empire were the Europeans. Yes, the Arab Revolt was important to there downfall, but really all the Arab revolt meant was Britain didn’t have to push as much resources into the Middle East. The Ottoman Empire would have fallen without the Revolt.

World War 1 only took place in order to destroy the Ottoman empire ( the caliphate ). Good old divide and conquer tactics were put in place to turn the Arab empire against the Ottomans. End of the caliphate.

Afnan Syed - caliphate successorship is chosen by the Almighty. As it is HIS message that needs to be reflected correctly according to the message departed on Muhammad pbuh. For instance as Haroon was selected by the Almighty to succeed Moses pbuh. No human has the right to choose successorship but by God’s will and command only!!

Shaurya Joshi - a direction is laid out way in advance re successorship. God does not plan at the last minute. His plans are laid out way into the future. Similarly the Prophet was given a clear direction who is to succeed him in Imamate - one who will clearly and to the minutest detail reflect his message; thus Ali (as) was the divinely appointed Guardian of God’s message. Our belief is in the one God thus there are no discrepancies in having multiplicity of Gods.

The last legitimate Khalifa was Sultan Abdul Hamid (II). He was the one who protected Jerusalem for decades from the British/Zionists.

Turk Sultan Salim 1 abolished Khilafat in 1517 when he captured Egypt and holy land and took Abbasi Khalifa with him to Istanbul. Some historians say Salim executed the Khalifa but others say that Khalifa himself surrendered his title. Turks rulers kept their tiles Sultan until first world war broke out and they feared to lose umpire and they started using both titles Sultan and Khalifa. However, its worth mentioning that after abolishing the Khalifa they abandoned true teachings of Islam and started fighting to gain power and control of the world. They probably executed the Khalifa and his entire family which was taken to Turkey by Salim 1 as we don't find traces of the Abbasid family in Turkey. Very sad indeed.

The Ottoman Empire reached its peak during the reign of Sultan Selim I (1512-1520) and Suleiman I (1520-1566). The Ottoman Empire's glory lasted for nearly 600 years, from the early 1300s until after World War I. One of the greatest achievements of the Ottomans was the conquest of Constantinople in 1453, which was then the capital of the Byzantine Empire. After the conquest, Constantinople was renamed Istanbul and became the capital of the Ottoman Empire. On January 16, 1878, Russian forces defeated the Ottoman Empire's forces in the Sanjak of Filibe, Edirne, which is now Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

A great insight into Islam and I enjoyed every minute of it and I'm a chatholic and I understand the difference between the Sonni and Shia, it's just like us Chatholics against the prothesntants.... To a certain degree...

@@davidclifford5124 Islam isn’t like every religion and a caliphate is not Islam that is people that came after and tried to be leaders for Muslim people but what does that have to do with Islam you don’t see Allah constantly talking about a caliphate in the Quran. That was simply people that wanted to be leaders or have power in the Muslim community, has nothing to do with Islam. And it isn’t about opinion. That’s like me saying the Christian leaders in Christian countries are fighting over who gets to be the leader in the countries somehow has something to do with Christianity it doesn’t.

A good step towards the history of middle east, there had been so may politics for ruling the Muslim world through prophet hood could not be composed on so short but really a good work is brought in this series, I could learn a lot, thanks.

Lectures of sheikh imran Hussein are eye opening and very diverse He addresses the subject of caliphate with an excellent understanding.

Very well put together. I found it informative, although not in-depth enough to cover Muslim presence further into Africa or the involvement of the Moors in Andalusia. None the less it was, good viewing and captured the internal political-religious dynamics within the faith brilliantly. What it showed was, just how much being a Muslim, is dependent on what you know and how you feel about what you know.

Absolutely YES. I think a caliphate is bound to come back. Muslim countries as they are now are simply not functioning. Sooner or later, people will need a united power that protects them.

Good series. Daesh certainly is abusing the Islamic faith for their own warped ends. Anyone who fights for them is a mug or a criminal. Their hate will never bring peace, just more hate, misery and orphans.

it will never happen to islam bcause quran told you to kill for allah sake. what a fool to believe in islam. allah is the best deceiver of all. Qur'an 3:54.. and read surah at-taubah 9 and you will learn to kill.

If you know Islam, then you know that al-Masih is fighting Al-Dajjal not you nor I. All we can do is not to listen to Al-Dajjal but keep our Iman to Allah swt.

I am from Kenya. My grandparents came from India because the British need labor in Kenya. I grew up in the 60s and in my History classes we had learnt that it was the Omani Arabs who were taking slaves from the east coast of Africa to Arabia. This was long before the Europeans had good ships to venture out into the vast oceans. Slavery, in various forms or fashions has existed in the Arab world for the last 2000 years as it still does. It therefore would be wrong to just blame the Europeans for slavery. The Europeans, despite all their looting and cruelty, have, at least on paper, abolished slavery
