The Butlers of Cunard

An exclusive for Queens Grill guests, a personal butler is on hand throughout the voyage to assist with everything from unpacking suitcases and shoe shining, to organizing in-room gatherings, pouring Champagne and assisting with guests with donning cuff links and red-carpet worthy gowns.
“I’m proud to be a butler on Cunard,” says Claudio Marcelo Cuevas Jarpa, a polished crewmember from Chile dressed in a crisp uniform and white gloves. “We make magic happen for our guests. We anticipate their needs before they even know they have them,” he says with a smile as he straightens a guest’s bowtie before a glamorous formal night on board, another hallmark of Cunard’s storied brand.
“A good butler is hard to find, one who perceives, for example, the way guests like to live, the way they like their stateroom, their amenities” says David Hamilton, a veteran hotel manager on board Queen Elizabeth. “Everything is delivered and presented in a very personal way.”
“Details are everything, and I pay attention to every bit of it,” says Natalia Kustova, a butler on board Queen Elizabeth.

We recently booked a suite on a similar cruise line and were told that it included butler service . We didn't think much about it at the time . What they didn't tell us was that it was one butler for all the suites in that area of the ship . He served us breakfast a few times "brought it to our suite" "set it all out on the table" and that was pretty much it . By the end of the cruise it became apparent he was running his ass off for people in all the other suites . I have no idea how many other suites there were .

My first QM2 trip will be in a Britannia Club Balcony cabin because I will be bringing a friend with me, so no butler, but if I decide to go a second trip I will travel solo and try a Queen's Grill suite just to try the butler service. I believe Queens Grille is the lowest state room that offers a butler. I've never had a butler before so it will be a very different experience and I'll have to learn how to interact with them.

The in-room drinks hosting would be awesome, especially if you've met a few other guests onboard and want to have a quiet in-room gathering. Personally, I'd prefer to unpack my own things. Those pillows look so comfy though. We were close to cruising with Cunard in 2020 until the shutdown changed things.

Why pay for queen’s grill if you don’t want the service? The class is primarily an enhanced room and dining option. To be honest you could buy an inside cabin for a servant , bring them and get excellent service for less than queen’s grill pricing if that in something you’d enjoy. It was typical to bring staff on a cruise years ago.

I think some of the disconnect in the comments stems from a modern connotation of service work being demeaning , this is not correct. Service work, especially at a high level, is challenging and rewarding work in which people can and do take pride in performing well. There is no shame in performing service work, there is no shame in being served.
