Though some people took the whole horse meat scandal as in "oh no not my favorite rideable animal", the real reason it became a scandal was that it was not labeled in those products, thus it was not regulated. Because it was not regulated the source of horse meat could have been coming from old racing horses for example which might have had steroids, antibiotics and other medicines that would not be allowed in any animal meant for human consumption.

How many race horses are killed every year??? You really think thats where it came from? Do they just dispose of horses after a race like dogs with dog fighting? Am I missing something? If I was gonna buy a horse to butcher...it would be 6 figures cheaper to buy a normal horse....

  • @oldbandwagon8797

@@mattlegier7408 Believe it or not, race horses are one of the most common killed horses out of any of them. Race horses that do not perform well are often shipped off to an auction, or just straight to a slaughterhouse because they have no reason to keep around this expensive animal that is not pulling in any money. In the racing business, you either race and win, you breed, or you get sold. Where the rejects end up, the breeders usually do not care. You say that "if you were to buy a horse to slaughter, they would be six figures cheaper," most ex race horses are not sold for nearly that much. Race horses are only used to run when they are trained as babies. They have no other skill in any other division, so they are often sold very cheap if they are retired. The only thoroughbreds that are sold for "six figures" are the ones related to big bloodlines such as American Pharoah or Justify, which is probably where you got that information from. At the end of the day, the racing business is extremely flawed and downright horrible for these animals.

I had an absolutely, seriously messed up dream in which Business Blaze had it's millionth subscriber, which also coincided with Simon visiting his extended family back home, who in turn organized the biggest street party my imagination could probably conceive (I'm guessing the Plague had ended). Legends from all corners of the world descended on this one street, the Heineken flowed in rivers, the fireworks boomed through out the night and some shady Columbian's were made a killing selling their most well know product. I must have passed out, because next thing I know a guy with either a Sheffield or Rotherham accent, on a open top bus was shouting at us light weights to disperse. The most amazing thing was that before I had that dream I was 100% sober.

It is comforting. The people who like me REALLY like me and the people that don't like me often CAN'T STAND me. I'm inquisitive, and I look at the big picture and the minute details. When others get tunnel vision on moving forward, I get tunnel vision on the potential impacts, intended and unintended. People tend to think I'm a waste of time even if they can acknowledge I'm usually correct. Sometimes it feels like a blessing and other times it feels like a curse. I'm just glad I can see someone be who they are and make a living, because it would be nice to do both instead of trying to mask all the time and still getting blowback.

The police is looking for a serial criminal who does everything from vandalism to murder. Turns out, there is no connection between the crimes. The swaps the police used to take DNA evidence from the crime scene were contemenated with the DNA of a factory worker. The case is one of the reasons DNA should not be seen as bulletproof.

I live in the States and when I was a child, we had a wife-beating neighbour. It was really really bad. My mother called the police and they laughed and said, "That's not a crime, it's a Saturday night sport." A few later My eldest sister had an abusive spouse. I was 10 years old and called the police. The dispatcher said, "We don't respond to domestic dispute calls. It's a good way to get an officer killed." Now when I go back to visit there are signs that say "There is no place for domestic violence here" and I scoff. I don't think they started investigating domestic abuse until the late 90s there.

except the horses you get are most likely "discarded" after years of service because someone thought they could profit more by butchering than selling them. Its like thinking that your cat or dog, once of age, or after an injury were just better used in a pie. Basically, what you can get as horsemeat nowadays was someones pet before. and nothing raised for its meat. i think that is the thought that most people hate the most. it should be wandering a green pasture and not be on their plates. and the most heinous thing is when you are not even able to make that decision for yourself. just get served something that says "beef".

my grandfather tells the story of, how after wwii, streetcat populations suddenly went down in parts of the city, which had a pretty decent supply of meat, given it was bombed out just weeks ago. a lot of it was sold as "rabbit", but there were no farms with that kind of supply. the city decided on new ordinances that small critters had to be sold or displayed wholly, ie with their skulls intact. bc you can't fucking pass off a cat as a rabbit if you can see the skull. needless to say, meat supply went down after that. suddenly, my grandma's quiet horror at having inadvertently eaten cat seems rather innocent, after this video.

There are even quotes from americans, who visited berlin back in the 1920, wich said that chicago is in fact not that bad. And chicago was a shit hole. Everybody in berlin had so many problems with maniging there own lifes that they just didnt care. Screams everywhere? A regular Thing. Crying children? A regular Thing. Murder and suicide? A regular Thing. Why would you care about screams of pain if you hear them every second night?

In the UK and Ireland horses are considered at the same level of cats, dogs etc more than factory animals. So eating horse meat is borderline to eat a domestic pet. Some other countries don't have this custom, but the issues that arise about the horse meat in the initial intro was the fact that was not specified as such, as per law. Second: The Ikea case involved horse meat that was coming from racing horse meat that contained chemicals, hormones and stuff that is not suitable for human consumption.
