Pro-Tips for Criminals As the Archivist of CC Lore (self-proclaimed), I've been writing down tips for criminals since the channel started. Here is an updated list. (For regulars, items added since last update start around 119.) 100. Don't write down your crimes even if it's past the statute of limitations. 101. There's no statute of limitations for murder. 102. Just dress as a super old man. Put some old man mask on or some shit, just go there, buy some booze, no one's gonna question you because you don't ID someone who looks like they're 90. You're welcome, teenagers of the world. 103. If you're doing crimes, don't continue doing the same crimes in another state. 104. Don't tell your cellmate about your crimes. 105. How do you NOT practice with the gun before you try and assassinate a president? 106. For all you budding criminals out there, it's worth noting that the drug receptivity of individuals can vary widely across relatively small sample sizes, and if you want to get uniform effect across, let's say 60 people of different ages, weights, genders and states of health, carefully calibrated dosages need to be applied. 107. Don't smuggle drugs to Malaysia or anywhere in Asia - they'll probably kill you. 108. Maybe you can blackmail someone into being with you for life, but it's gonna be really awkward. 109. Really? You're using a stolen credit card to get delivery food to your house? 110. Don't podcast your crimes. 111. The statute of limitations for robbery lasts only 10 years in Germany. 112. Get a balaclava or something. It's like three dollars. 113. Just wear a mask, dickheads! 114. Why would you take their wallets? Just take the money out of the wallets and fucking leave them there. 115. They say crime doesn't pay. It absolutely does or there would be no crime. 116. The best criminals are the ones we don't know about. 117. Yo, if there's a guy who knows all of your criminal activities, he's immensely valuable to the police. If you've thought about killing him, keep your mouth shut until you've actually killed him because otherwise, he's going to go to the police. 118. Don't commit crimes in China. Goddamn. 119. Don't try to hide a body in a sand pit. 120. You're a serial killer. If you want to terrify people, kill people... what's the reason for not killing? 121. Is slashing the best tactic with a knife? That's just going to injure someone. 122. What are you doing? If you're a criminal and you're committing crimes, are you really going to wear something so identifiable? 123. If your crimes are going to end in a suicide, please write down everything in great detail because it makes our jobs a lot easier. 124. She saw your face. She saw you commit a murder. You murdered someone and now you're just going to let her go? That's insane. 125. If you've been robbing and you've got money and guns in your car, how about you go just a couple of miles an hour below the speed limit? Not suspiciously slow, but also so there isn't any chance of getting pulled over. 126. Don't write a novel about your crimes. 127. Don't blog about your crimes. 128. Why wouldn't you make sure your bombs work well before you mail them anywhere? You can't even observe the results directly. If you're going to make bombs, make some bombs, and set them off in the garden first. 129. Don't leave a badge bearing the name of your organization at the crime scene. 130. You know what's great for getting rid of DNA evidence? Fucking fire. 131. If you're an excellent bank robber in a country which punishes bank robbery heavily, just go to a country with more money and less punishment. You're welcome. 132. Yes, it's a serious crime to set someone's car on fire. 133. If you're signing up for some dark website, use a different user name, c'mon. 134. You can't use your burner phone to call your mum and wish her happy birthday. 135. Burn the receipt. If you're unsure, burn, burn, burn. Fire is your friend. 136. Burn properly. Use accelerant. 137. If you're making a fake bomb, do it with gloves on. 138. Buy multiple burner phones at separate shops. 139. Assume you're always being wire-tapped. 140. Conduct your meeting somewhere private. 141. Don't trust pre-paid phones. 142. Always wear gloves from preparation to execution. 143. If you've burned a body and there's little bits left over, don't bury them in your backyard, you idiot. 144. If you're gonna murder someone, don't rush. Think about it. 145. If you're in prison forever, go ahead and write down your crimes. Why not? 146. If you're going to get revenge, don't write about getting revenge. Just quietly get revenge. Or at least be quiet about it until after the revenge is done. 147. Don't subtly hint at your crimes. 148. Don't work or do crimes with a psychopath. Because they're a psychopath. They're gonna betray you. 149. If you've been collecting people's drivers licenses as some trophy and you bring someone round to clean out your garage, is that really a good idea to have those there? 150. When disposing of bodies, smell is everything. Exert all your chemical research on that issue. 151. Throwing evidence down an embankment does not count as disposing of evidence. You have to burn it with fire. 152. Don't lie to the police about easily verifiable information. 153. Shut the fuck up until your lawyer arrives. 154. Don't draw diagrams of your crimes. 155. Don't admit to your future crimes. 156. Don't hand-write a ransom note. 157. Don't blog about felony theft. 158. Why are you giving your name and contact info to a sex worker? 159. If you're a murderer, don't go on ride-alongs with the police. 160. Don't act suspicious. 161. If you're providing an alibi that you know is fake, how about you provide an alibi that's less fake? 162. Don't text potential victims. 163. Don't steal victims' phones. 164. If you fake your own death, you have to leave town. 165. If you want to kill someone, hiring a hit man isn't helpful. Do it properly yourself. 166. If you've done crimes, don't stick around at the scene and don't come back. 167. You're not a spy if you keep telling everyone about it. @@jordanhicks5131 ah yes, I remember this. The program that conveniently fails to mention the reason that drugs are used is because they make you feel awesome and instead focuses entirely on the negative effects. Which, in theory, no problem... until someone is like, why the actual f**k do people use drugs if all they do is destroy you? There's gotta be something there, otherwise people wouldn't use them. But obviously it can't be that great, because the DARE teacher assured us that drugs are awful for you and thus make you feel and act awful. Huh, so I could probably handle trying a drug, I mean, ultimately I'll just feel like shit and everything the DARE teacher taught me will be glaringly obvious... Oh, wait, hang on, I think I might be feeling something from these Vicoden I took. Well let's see, the DARE textbook told me I'd experience intense nausea, vomiting, sedation, and potentially respiratory depression. Heck, I might even choke on my own vom... Oh wait, holy crap. Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap. Umm, wait, what?! This feels...unbelievable. Like, honestly, everything in the world just is ok. Fuck, high school is no big deal, all I need is a nice dose of Vicodin and all my problems will fade away... Six months later you're out of money, in severe opioid withdrawal, trying to alleviate the pain by essentially overdosing on over the counter antidiarreah medication, since theoretically it's an opioid, after all... Lol, the hopefully obvious point I'm trying to make here is that lying about how drugs work doesn't really help anyone that's even halfway a curious person. The problem with drugs is not so much the physiological harm they cause, but rather the psychological high that they induce. They feel amazing, but are a Goddamn forsaken hellspawn of a Pandora's box. Once you've opened the box, felt the high, you can't go back. And THAT is what absolutely f**ks you up. It's not the long term damage done to your body. It's the short term deal with the devil that hijacks your brains pleasure systems and makes it so that literally everything else in the world is boring without your drug of choice. Honestly, a freaking threesome with Victoria's Secret models would probably feel like meh at best during active addiction. And trust me, you suffer in the endeavor to reset your system. I figured I could at least mitigate the withdrawal symptoms by tapering down, and to an extent that was true, but it was still nearly unbearable. A full 2ish months of my life were spent in a state of absolute anhedonia. Literally nothing could provide any pleasure, it was just sort of a grey cloud looming over my life. So yeah, drugs aren't dangerous because they make you feel like shit, drugs are dangerous because once you've tried them, it's literally the only thing that can provide pleasure to your brain. Edit: also, should note that I failed to mention that even after the two months of literally deriving zero pleasure from any activity, I still CONSTANTLY crave the drug. And cravings aren't so much like food cravings, oh no. Cravings are far closer to, well, panic attacks. Like, you full on melt down and your brain convinces you that the only way things will be okay is to go back to using the drug. It isn't so much that taking the drug/fulfilling the craving will be extremely satisfying, no, no, it's more like fulfilling the craving is absolutely necessary if you ever want to experience joy ever again. And your life is literally falling apart without your drug of choice. It's an irrational, panic attack like state that isn't really done justice by the comparison to a simple food craving
I have time all day every day for Simons tangent, ESPECIALLY if they include contraband and people from Kazakstan!
Hey Simon, in the JonBenét video you joked about an 8 part series on her. Here's an idea: do a series of three separate events, in which the first one caused the latter two. The first is the Ruby Ridge incident that occurred in August of 1992. This event would greatly influence the actions taken by the ATF during the Waco Siege around 6 months later in February of 1993. Finally rounding off with the Oklahoma city bombing by McVeigh in 1995 as he stated directly that the Waco siege caused him to decide on the course of action he took. Just an idea.

I'm not a psychologist, but I know that schizophrenia tends to kick in between the late teens and early 20s; is often correlated with drug abuse; and is more common in men. There are several schizophrenics in my wife's family, all men. Two, twin brothers, became drug-addicted felons. A third is more on the semi-catatonic side and is on medication. Ritchie seems to fit the profile. The American mental health care system's failure and easy access to guns combined to erase multiple lives.

@Beaver of the Pola just to be clear: IMO it's a matter of correlation, not causation. If anything it's the reverse. It's fun because of the tangents. You crack me up. It makes it much easier to get through the really bad ones. The victims deserve to have their story heard. That's how I made it they'd Pedro Lopez and some if the others. Those people lived it, I only had to hear about it and so I listened so they would matter to one more person. I used to avoid true crime because it was disturbing, but you make it about the victim by the emotion you show, you lighten it up with you tangents, and you appropriately end the worst shows with silence because they're truly are no words after hearing the story. You just need to sit there speechless because it's just so insane.

Hi Simon! Alaskan here- you might have gotten a comment before similar to this- but Alaska doesn't actually have the death penalty. We never have since we became a state!
Also I live above the Arctic circle now and in the middle of the winter what actually happens is the Sun will rise around 11:00 and set around 2:00 but it never comes above the horizon so it's more alike a sunrise and sunset that never ends for about 3 hours
Oh man simon ranting about his school days is exactly what I didn't know I needed this morning :)

Whenever I have the time I come here to watch the videos otherwise I just listen to the podcast. It’s refreshing to find true crime content done in depth AND with respect. I especially enjoy the moments where you remind us of the importance of the victims rather the perpetrators of the crimes you talk about. Keep up the wonderful work!

*Alright, Listen Up, Brain Boy!* A "Magnum" is just a longer round than a standard round of the same caliber. The most popular are the .44 Magnum (a la Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry) and the .357 Magnum (the pistol described in this episode). But you can also easily find a .22 Magnum if you so desire. The Magnum round is longer than a standard one because it has more gunpowder loaded into the casing (the [usually] brass, shiny part that holds everything together until it's fired, and it is ejected after firing an automatic or semi-automatic weapon). This added gunpowder makes the round travel much faster, which increases the kinetic energy exponentially (kinetic energy = 1/2 x mass x velocity^2). Plus, the actual projectile can be made a bit longer, as well, although the increased mass of the projectile has much lesser an effect on the overall kinetic energy (according to the same mathematical equation). The exponentially increased kinetic energy results in a larger energy transfer into the target upon impact of the round, and it does so without the need to re-tool or remake the entire bore of a weapon. That's what's up 🤑
The rare casual criminalist that features an extremely competent cop
Thank you
Simon it may have been on decoding the unknown but I went and watched that Australian video you mentioned - he blows another 0.000 and then they make him do a field sobriety test, he passes but still gets a $300 fine for driving with an open bottle of alcohol and sent on his way. As he said “expensive lesson”
@settame1
5 ай бұрын
This is the case in the US as well. You can also not have alcohol accessible to the driver, it has to be secured in the trunk or clearly out of the drivers reach (although I think it’s just to add a reason to search).
I got my husband Vessis because of your pitch, and he absolutely loves them.
I lived in Alaska through...two cases you've covered. *SIGHS* This one and Keyes. The coffee shop Samantha worked at was an hour from my home, and Ritchie was killed by police near the 5th Avenue Mall in downtown. As for HOW these people can just go get so many guns??? Simon, you can LITERALLY walk into a grocery store and walked out with a handgun and a box of ammo in under an hour. We owned a 20 gauge and a 9mm when I lived in AK. Alaska is the closest that the U.S. really still has to the wild west.
Benny talking about problems is awesome.
It's so short 😫
Simon FYI The 3 strikes you're out rule is only a law in certain states (states rights). Alaska is not one of them.

I grew up in Eagle River, which is just north of Anchorage. If you’re ever in downtown Anchorage, there’s a little bar and grill called Humpty’s. When I lived there in the late 90s/early 00s, they had the best beer-battered halibut I’ve ever tasted in my life.
What I love about Alaska is even our biggest city is so small that I know exactly where that dashcam video was recorded XD

Stephen Colbert took over David Letterman's Late Night Show when Letterman retired.
14:40 Yeah, Brain Boy, but matching the striations of a used firearm projectile is something that can only be done in a controlled environment, such as a laboratory with the correct equipment. At the murder site it would be hard to take the proper entrance wound measurement required to differentiate between the variously sized rounds that are similar or close to the size of a .357 round. Oh, and the Magnum part means it has more powder, and a longer casing to hold it. It doesn't make it wider than .357 caliber (0.357 inches), though. However, depending on the exit wounds and such, it might have been close enough of a match for the police to act as if it were the same killer until the lab report is issued.
