The Buddha's Tooth is Still Growing

These two teeth of Shakyamuni Buddha are nearly 3 inches long, and have been growing in size since the time the Buddha entered Nirvana about 3000 years ago. These are the only known teeth relics of the Buddha in the United States, and are part of a collection of over 10000 relics that were donated to Lu Mountain Temple, in Rosemead, CA, earlier in 2013. For more information, please visit:
www.MahaStupa.project
This website has information about the relics, and also describes the vision to build a stupa to enshrine the relics, somewhere in Southern California, which will be a major monument to Mahayana Buddhism.

I'm a buddhist. I want the scientist find out how the tooth keep growing. It will be wonderful. All of asian countries with buddhism believe this. It's a mysthry but I think there's some reason. The buddha said everything is nature. So I agreed! I believe there's a natural and scientific reason how it grow.

The buddha always said "Let's search for the truth! Let's prove it because everything is nature. Do not believe it before you found the real final answer!" But the people don't dare because of "belief', so they don't touch it. The buddha taugh to prove the mysth with respect. I'll be happy and still love the buddha!

I don't know if this tooth is real or not (a lot of relics are fake). But if it is real then I am agree with you. Another interesting topic is extracting gene from the tooth, if our technology advances to the point that cloning human is possible, we can clone him from gene point of view. Of course we can not clone his cumulative karma but we can still clone his physical body. Other source of his gene is his hair. A lot of Buddhists turned Buddhism into a blind faith. I believe in science as Buddhism, and I agree with you that science should investigate it for the sake of curiosity. But it is very hard to touch to those relics without powerful political power. I think more Buddhist should have scientific mindset as you and me, LOL.

The Buddha said the things he knew are like leaves in the forest, while the things he taught are like leaves in his hand. I think he knew a lot about science and other civilizations in the universe as well as in the past, but he did not reveal that. I think there is a reason the age of Buddha did not advance in science. It is the karma of those people. I think the karma is the determined factor, if people don't deserved something, then no matter how hard you do, it will not result. That why Buddha did not teach science or related topics. And we live in the age where science is developed, which is our karma that we are deserved. I think science will still grow much more further, and if Buddhism wants to live on, its people must learn scientific method.

Also this tooth looks like a cow bovine tooth, doesn't look like a human tooth. So it seems fake, and the size of it, and the pattern, not human. That is a crime to fool people to worship a cow tooth, LOL, those criminals.

For God, if you say, "I am a Christian", that implies that you follow the living prophet of your time but for Satan, if you say: "I am a Christian", that implies that you are a church goer. I was told, "there are several Groups over there too but there is another and only one question and it is: Who is your Prophet? Or who is their Prophet?" And you will see that there, in the eternity, people of the same epoch have the same Prophet, the same Message whatever their nation, their race or their language whereas on this side, with Satan, people of the same epoch and the same nation have different churches and different prophets. I think what Buddha mentioned and requested from human kind was to focus on the Buddhism philosophy .. not about the material things which will not help anyone to obtain anything. Whether it is actually lord buddha's tooth or not really doesn't matter, if someone is following true Buddhism philosophy. It is how you understand universal truth, it is about 1. Suffer 2. why you suffer 3. detachment of suffering 4. the path to get permeant detachment of suffering.

This is a good question. As Buddha has taught us don't believe what I say here. There is a story here in Sri Lanka that around 600 or so years ago,a mighty Chinese Army General by name Zeng invaded Sri Lanka with a powerful army & took away the Tooth Relic our King was keeping in his custody. But after the dispute was over our (Sri Lankan) diplomats went to China & negotiated with the then Chinese Emperor who had returned The Tooth Relic back to the Sri Lankan delegation.I don't know whether it was genuinely returned? Please reveal the truth.Thanx.

  • @HLANGL

    @HLANGL

    3 жыл бұрын

@@grpsuk I think you have got two distinct tales from our history mixed up .... First, there had been quite a number of invasions taken place throughout the history of Sri Lanka under which the security of the tooth relic (and the sacred bowl ("Paathra Dhathuwa") too which is said to have had been here back then but got lost somehow sometime later ...) had come under threat. Once during the Dambadeniya/Yapahuwa era, the tooth relic and the (then existed) sacred bowl had been captured by certain invaders from India (I think they had been 'Pandyas", not "Cholas") and had taken to India. Then, as per what history says, they both had been brought back to Sri Lanka some time later during the period of Parakramabhahu iii. In reality, it had been under threat during most periods of turmoil here in Sri Lanka. With all due respect to it, the true integrity of the so-called tooth relic which exists here today (the one at Kandy. Some says, there had been another tooth relic of Buddha brought here during a much earlier time and it had been placed inside the "Somawathiya stupa" at Polonnaruwa in the Eastern Province) might be of concern at least to any one with a rational mind (I am too a Sri Lankan Buddhist ...), especially given the fact that the possession of it then is said to have had symbolized the right/credentials to the top most crown here in Sri Lanka, it had been the accepted custom/practice even up to the kingdom of Kandy, thus many who may have had the ambition to claim the crown may have had been keen to capture the tooth relic too and keep it with them to support their claim/s. So what exactly may have had happened in such a backdrop of turmoil spanning across for almost 20 centuries (from the days of king Keerthi Sri MeghaWarna of Anuradhapura to the days of king Sri Vickrama Rajasinghe of Kandy) has been quite a concern, true. Again, the same concern may apply to almost all such possessions of relic/s held in various parts of the world today. That being said, it's by no means any disgrace to Lord Buddha or to the true philosophy he has presented us as his (original) remarkable teachings had nothing to do with this kind faith-based rituals. It had been initially a great philosophy which happens to have been transformed subsequently by the society over generations to a mainstream religion with most of its current day rituals .... Coming to the tale relevant to the Chinese admiral Zheng He, it has nothing to do with the capture of the tooth relic, rather it's with a capture of one of the most prominent/powerful leaders here in Sri Lanka who had been considered in the league of regional kings too. Alagakkonaras/Alakeshwaras had been an influential family in terms of the politics here in Gampola and Kotte eras. The Chinese admiral Zheng He had captured Veera Alakeshwara and had taken him in custody to China ( ? may be with certain others too ? ) approximately 6 centuries back, as per certain records. Some say they had later released him and returned to this country too sometime later, but there may still be certain chance/s that at least certain elements/remnants still got lost in the process and left in China or one of its then colonies .... That being said, how many such political dynasties had then been lost by this nation over its history spanning across 25+ centuries, due to many factors; political and others too ?.

Buddha is not the physical body of Sihartha Gautama. Sihartha is just the manifestation of a physical body by Buddha into human realm to teach us. Even if we successfully cloned Sihartha we will only have a physical human body of a man without Shakyamuni Buddha nature in him.

Chapter 10 Lotus Sutra The “Teacher of the Law” says: “In any place whatsoever where this sutra is preached, where it is read, where it is recited, where it is copied, or where a roll of it exists, in all such places there should be erected towers made of the seven kinds of gems, and they should be made very high and broad and well adorned. There is no need to enshrine the relics of the Buddha there. Why? Because in such towers the entire body of the Thus Come One is already present.”

@@skipper2594 the relics are just a reminder, there is a Tibetan story. Once there was a trader going to India, his aged mother beg him to bring back a Buddha or his disciple's relic for her worship since she is too old to engage on her pilgrimage. The trader son was so engaged in his business deal. On the way home, he realized. He had forgotten about the mother's request. In order not to disappoint her, he pick up a dog bone by the roadside and give it to her. Upon receiving it, the mother prostate and worship it. Weeks later, a crowd gather at his house when the man was away. When returning home, he wonder what is going on. People was happy that the trader had bring back a holy relic that beam with lights. He examined the relic and found that it was the same dog bone which he picked up weeks ago. He too prostate before it in reverence. The parable of faith and devotion build upon a false relic.

Buddha is a human being. And which human has a tooth that's 3 inches long. Buddha told the sangha to question his teaching, do not believe everything that is being told to them. But question and ask why, then you will find the answer, based on your own judgement.

I believe Buddha wasn’t a human our size, that person was a giant and for a Prince to own a god weapon (vajra) makes me really curious about his lineage. Also why would a Prince introduce Buddhism when brahmanism and Jainism (I’m not quite sure if they’re the same or not) existed. There is something political about Buddhism especially in India because Buddhism is a poor man’s religion and like the Jewish religion there is an emphasis on gaining enlightenment through hardship and having absolutely nothing. I believe Buddha was a person but there is something I find a little off about Buddhism.

There are different types of Buddhism allover the world and many of them following against Buddha's teaching and this might lead Buddhism destroy by it self like it happened in India . It's time to preserve Buddha , Dhamma and Sangha for future .
