The British Royal Family, Diana Ross , The Supremes

November 19, 1968 - The British Royal Family &Diana Ross & the Supremes
Diana Ross ( with the Supremes ) used this opportunity, during her performance at London Palladium, to make a moving tribute to black civil rights leader, Martin Luther King - who had been assassinated earlier in the year.
She was able to introduce this in the middle of singing “Somewhere”, speaking in time to the music:
"Let our efforts be as determined as those of Dr Martin Luther King, who had a dream that all God's children....could join hands and sing....There's a place for us, black and white. Jew and gentile....and the world of Martin Luther King and his ideals."
In the sixties the Royal Variety Show is one of the most important events for the British nobility. This is a charity musical show that takes place in London, which takes part in the whole royal family, with the queen in the front row. The program, each year, enriched by the presence of distinguished guests and internationally renowned. We prefer, of course, British agents, but not ashamed to invite some foreign star success.
In the edition of 1968, which takes place Nov. 19, the role of special guest is up to the Supremes, the leading trio of Motown, Diana Ross, who led a lot of damage now about to leave, ready to debut as a soloist. The group has experienced four years of success with over forty million albums sold worldwide, and certainly does not put in subjection by the idea of singing before the Queen of England. Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong's latest addition to that a year has taken the place of Florence Ballard, are "old hands" [[not in a master) of the stage. The concert then proceeds quietly on tracks in front of a public order as is appropriate when there is the royal family in full force. Towards the end, however, the two companions are a step back and let Diana Ross alone at the microphone, while the music stops. The singer begins to speak: "I have many occasions to talk to people as powerful as those before me today. I, like you see are black, while you're white. I sing and you listen to me, then when everything is finished we go along the hall. This does not always happen. There are places in the world, including some member of my country, the United States, where blacks and whites do not have the same rights, can not even go out the same door. I wish you thought when you return to your homes. " While Ross is in line with its companions in the room drops an awkward silence. Someone from the back beats hands timidly, others follow. In short the whole audience, including members of the royal family, stands up and extends for two minutes the applause. Diana Ross thanked and announced the next song.
Diana Ross finishes the Platinum Jubilee show - London. June 4, 2022 -
Lee Mack introduces Diana Ross as a "particular favourite" of the Royals.
Diana Ross sang her song “Thank You” as projections of the words ‘Thank You’ and ‘Love’ flashed onto the Palace behind her . The projection was changed to that of a Union Jack during the song as the Prince of Wales was seen clapping while the Duchess of Cornwall waved a flag .
Followed the performance by delivering a message for the Queen, saying:
“Hello, from all the people here tonight, and millions watching around the world, we have one simple message to you: Thank you.”
At the end of the song, she said:
“I am in admiration of you, Your Majesty. I am so proud and pleased to be here to share this evening with you, and I know you all feel the same “
She closed the show by urging everyone in the crowd to shout three “thank you” to the Queen, which was followed by rounds of applause .
Diana Ross performed (in a tiered black and white dress and huge silver earrings ) the songs :
1- “Chain Reaction” ,
2- “Thank You”
3- and closed the set with “Ain't No Mountain High Enough” while accompanied by a choir and orchestra .

I'm always so proud of Diana, she was and still is, the star that she set out to be. It's funny when reading about how single minded she was in obtaining stardom. The lady came from the projects! She's done a wonderful job moving up in this life, look at her now

@@dwightpowell6673 The gowns weren't being stored in Mexico, The Supremes were appearing there in 1974 and the dresses were among several sets which were destroyed in a fire in the girls' dressing room.

or were they? wouldnt it make a great movie if behind the scenes some fans of top DRAG actually stole them and they are still being in hiding all these years? who directed that film "Chasing papi" this is a bit somewhat like a comedic film could be made, was the theft simply saving the gowns or did one of the gang start the fire accident;ly or on purpose, did the corrupt owners of the club start the fire? Hmm

Wow. Stupid comment. The British RF aren’t leaders of any slavery. You can’t blame them for what their ancestors did hundreds of years ago. The British were the first to abolish slavery and paid heavily for it. Black aristocracy sold their own people to anybody and everybody who’d buy them. Maybe you need to look back at your own ancestors to see how they sold their own people. And FYI, when the Motown Tour arrived in the U.K. in the 60’s, they were received with open arms. They could eat, sleep and even use the toilets. No segregation! Those things weren’t allowed in some states in the US. The RF have been huge fans and supporters of black music for many years. Diana Ross headlined the Queens platinum jubilee concert, by invitation of the Queen herself. If you’re going to blame the BRF for something that went on centuries ago, I suppose you’ll be blaming today’s German leaders for what Hitler did to Jews, blacks, gays, invalids, etc only 80+ years ago?

NATASHA VALENTINO, DEFRANCO The modern royals aren't colonists, slave-owners or anything diabolical. The late Queen actually signed many former Commonwealth nations over to independence. She was all for countries under the British flag going their own way. The last real colonial monarch was King Edward VII, and the last King-Emperor was George VI.
