They are looser but just as great when I Saw em in Asheville May 9 - what a fucking show- chatted w anton for five min over a cig unexpectedly- he was just standing alone on smoking deck and I literally opened door and he was standing there - smoking a camel non filter- Nobody noticed him and I almost didn’t either- he was tired- I told him musicians usually were before the show -but it goes away when spot light shines- he agreed. he nicely traded me one for an American Spirit- what a guy- WHAT A ROLE MODEL!! seriously-it may not sound line much - and I don’t do musician hero worship- so I told him to have a good show- and I went back inside- 10 minutes later the show started- interrupted his pre show smoke!! Oh no!! He couldn’t have been nicer-if you happen to meet him treat him like anybody else and it’s all good- Anton is an inspiration to anyone who deals or has dealt w addiction, depression- the whole nine yards- and he seems to have favorites motto- NEVER GIVE UP- it sure rings true here! JMHO thanks!!!

Thank you for posting. Saw them in San Francisco (1st show) Joel was in COVID quarantine, so he missed the show...BUMMER!!!! GREAT SHOW....BUT... There is a difference, when Joel is not on stage.....There is just "something" missing... He came back the next night.... "Dig!" Thanks again!!!

It is exhausting- anyone whose toured on any level- from Bar to Wembley-from Van to Lear jet- it’s still exhausting- it’s easier in a Lear Jet but even Keith gets tired. Those hours on stage- no matter who is doing it- take it out of you if you’re true to you’re art. It’s supposed to, Imo- thanks!

Saw them on this tour. Got to be in my top 5 concerts ever.

I’m an old 62 year old therapist who first heard of them in 2018 maybe 19. Stunned. Watched/listened to them since. Saw them in Baltimore and then in chapel hill. Baltimore was more like attending a rehearsal more than a concert….loved it. They figured it all by the time they landed in chapel hill. Best I felt since before the pandemic. Anton’s personality though is problematic for me and probably for most who are honest with themselves. If you happen to suffer from a personality yourself you might not notice. Between songs you have sort of brace yourself for a strong dose of his narcissistic belligerence. Provoked or unprovoked he always finds a way to let the audience know what a fking maverick prolific genius he is. It happens to be true but wtf? Props to the enduring band members for putting up with him.

That’s just the way anton is and it’s part of the fun- I’m 62 as well- discovered them by accident in 2014- and I got sucked down the BJM rabbit hole so fast- I like it here- great people- but every time I think I’m almost out he drags me back in with a great new - or old- song- probably like you, I seen all the Big Guys- Neil Young and that crew- Stones over and over in 70s- but you know what? Neil and Mick and Keith are huge influences and role models - but they never made me cry- here, I can weep and it’s ok - thanks anton - you aren are officially the best…

And half of it is him just spouting off- he is an egomaniac with an inferiority complex- most artist are- But thing: thank god “Dig” has faded into history- now he has fans than have never seen dig- and what mite important- they don’t even know what the Jonestown Massacre was! Some think he’s Brian! He seems to shrug it all Of He really having fun here- At Asheville they pretty much stuck to script- Lastly- can I think of many 90s bands where they only play 2 old songs in 2 hrs- The rest are pre Covid- or more Likely, from his online collabs and recordings and songs during Covid. Lockdown/ he created masterpieces-‘and he’s finally getting a chance to air them out on stage- But non were unfamiliar to Me cause he posted them on YT as “Works de progress..” We were all like- ANTON- it’s done! Love the guys way and respect him for returning to live after decades of drinking way too much- He has said that Now you know you’re gonna get a good show cause Always give up the ghost JMHO- thanks!

Saw Asheville show-fantastic-accidentally walked right into Anton standing alone by outside door as I exited- he was very friendly- we shared a smoke and talked cigarettes- what brands were hardest to quit. His Nom filter Camels won. He was kind enough to trade one his Camels for an American Spirit-but shot me a weary glance when I mentioned that even Keith Richards had quit- Then, a few days ago, I saw a pic he posted on Twitter- it was an empty crumbled Camel pack and lighter with caption: “Memories’22. Lots of folks took that to mean he’d quit. Did he? Dunno- As a smoker myself - who is older than Anton- I sure would love to know-because I’ve GOT to Quit What does this have to do show? Everything-we want him around to come back again and I want to be there too! JMHO - thanks!

I was at that show, and while i had a good time, it seemed like the band was tired and Anton wasn't into it. Glad you had a different experience.

Saw them live at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ back in 2006 or so. SO amazing! Anton bummed a cig off me too, lol. He was pretty chill that night.

That is cool! I saw them around that time in Toronto (maybe '98) but I forget the name of the venue. It was on Spadina Ave 2nd floor the floor below was a Chinese Restaurant if anybody remembers the place haha!

Not sure I've seen a lead singer/guitarist end the show by playing drums by himself. I dont know if it's genius, sarcasm, tongue in cheek, groundbreaking, thoughtless, thoughtful, or all the above and more. It might be cool if the drummer would stay out there and do some stream of conscience shit like cartwheels or ring toss.
