There's really nothing else like One Piece. The length may seem intimidating, but starting it is the hardest part. Once you're in it, it's nice having a really great story with plenty of content to follow at your own pace. It's an incredible work of fiction and I couldn't possibly recommend it more.

Eiichiro Oda, the author of One Piece, is an unsung genius of our time. He seriously needs to be put in the history books alongside Shakespeare and Homer. The fact he has been crafting a saga filled with exciting locations, interesting characters, heart-breaking motivations, and laugh-out loud comedy for 20+ years for an international audience of all generations is awe-inspiring. He has made a fictional universe almost singlehandedly to the level of Marvel or DC, studios who had entire armies of writers. The anime can be a hard-sell. The pacing is a bit rough as the animation studio try to pad the runtime and there are a lot of fillers, but reading the manga or finding a list online for episodes to watch to avoid the fillers is possible. Even if you're aren't going to react to it on your channel, please at least give the manga a read. It is well worth the time and you are missing out on a truly wonderful experience.

2:58 You’re absolutely correct! They’re known as Stomach Barons. They grow actual food like meat plants, ramen waterfalls and chocolate rocks. But it’s how they lure in prey. Any living creature that comes onto them won’t be able to resist the food and gorge themselves u til they’re too fat to escape. At which point, the plant closes up and all the fattened animals and or people fall into the mouth at the centre of the plant.

Some people say that One Piece starts to get good past 200 episodes, but that's not true. It gets good from episode 1. It becomes one of the greatest of all times at 40. But the big thing is that it doesn't suck after 1000 episodes, it just keeps getting better.

At 200 episodes, you've already realized you're in love with One Piece and you're worried and an unexpected dread starts to set in and that dread involves the reality that even though at first it felt like 1000 episodes was impossible, you're already 1/5 of the way and you only want to see more and probably end up increasing the pace you watch it while also realizing that you really will catch up sooner or later.

You’re definitely along for the ride in the early episodes, not too sure of the wider context of the world, but the best part about one piece to me is that the more I watch the more I appreciate the earlier arcs because of how interconnected the story telling and world are. Nothing introduced into the story is wasted and can crop up again 100s of episodes later. So many jaw dropping connections between arcs and characters.

I love how One Piece has gone on for so long that you can tell what is early and current by the jumps in animation quality, even though there is equal amounts of care put into them. My favorite is the contrast between the 1st episode to the current anime arc, Wano, because the Wano arc's animation is to pre-Wano movie-quality nearly every episode (to the point that people joke that Japan's board of tourism must be paying for it, due to the island being based on Japan directly).

Listen. Everyone gets scared of One Piece because of how long it is, myself included. But once you start you cannot and do not want to stop. There is no series I have ever watched/read that has as much worldbuilding as One Piece. Even the likes of the Tolkien Legendarium and Tensura, which in my opinion are the next best two worldbuilding-focused series, can compare to the amount of love and attention to detail the Eiichiro Oda has put into this franchise. Last I checked One Piece is the seventh highest grossing multimedia franchise in the world and will probably rise even higher.

  • @MelissaRodgers1

One piece's world building truly is on another level. The only series I've seen with world building even comparable to One Piece's is a series called Ascendance of a Bookworm. (if you get into the books that is). Which even then I would say One Piece has more ONLY due to the fact that it's been going on for SO MUCH longer than the other one has. Ascendance of a Bookworm is the ONLY story I've seen up to date that seems to even comes close to One Piece's attention to detail in matters of the story building. Only time will tell how much either story has in the end because both of these series are still ongoing. But Ascendance of a Bookworm definitely has a lot of promise and could end up as good as One Piece if the writer continues developing the story the way she has. So if you enjoyed One Piece's worldbuilding you should definitely give Ascendance of a Bookworm a shot. It's world building definitely doesn't disappoint if anything else.

To answer your question about the bubbles, its just one place that is shown multiple times through the video. (ONE PIECE WORLDBUILDING SPOILERS)... while there are a couple of places that use them, specifically a sky island and the underwater kingdom, there is really only one place known for its bubbles, the Saboady Archipelago. There, the bubbles come up from the ground, made from a thicker coating because of the kind of trees that grow and make up Saboady. They're so prevelant as to be used in the making of vehicles and rides for the citizens, and quite a few businesses in this location will even use these bubbles in the making of special coatings for ships that wish to dive down under the Red Line, the singular continent that divides the world of One Piece in two.

  • @johns6014

The bubbles are the residue of a resin that naturally forms in the roots of a particular species of giant tree. The trees aren't very widespread - I think they only exist on two known islands - and the roots from the trees of one of those islands (an archipelago made from the trees themselves, rather than any actual land) reach down to the depths of the sea, and formed the foundation that a country of mermaids was built around. Wherever the trees exist, the resin soaks into the ground and rises into the air as bubbles, before eventually popping when they get too high for the atmospheric pressure to sustain them. The resin bubbles are strong enough to support some weight, are semi-permeable, and are hydrophobic, although they can still pop if they're damaged enough. The people who live around the trees were able to create means of adapting the bubbles into utilities such as low speed vehicles and other means of transport, while the resin itself can be used to coat ships and trap air to allow said ships to submerge themselves in the ocean. This is the primary means for most humans to reach the mermaid country. Of course, most of this is very minor in importance and is largely a background detail. But, that goes into the amount of detail that Eichiro Oda has put into designing this world. He really has turned the concept of world building into an art form. Not only that, but I'm not sure which is greater, his world building skills, or his ability to foreshadow and lead events - sometimes years (or even just recently, _decades_) - in advance.

For context: 1) The public (and readers & watchers) don't even know what the 'One Piece' is. 2) One Piece world is very very very big. And with big world, there are also creatures in this series that are also very very very big.

11:05 and thats why you'll sometimes see people refer to Eiichiro Oda as "God-a", theres no Team, its just him, its been his life long passion project since he was a kid, and its even bigger, more expansive, and detailed than you imagine

question: "why so many places with bubbles?" answer: there's actually only one place in the entire world that has those bubbles. they spawn from the yarukiman mangroves and the sunlight tree eve, and they pop if they get too far away from those trees. this means that every shot filled with bubbles is happening on or near the sabaody archipelago. the only exception is the first shot of the cloud island with bubbles on it, that is a location that specially makes those bubbles to control the island's floating.

Its sad that they didnt include whiskey peak in the video. It also was one of my favorite locations with all the gravestones that looked like spikes on a cactus from the distance.

I recently re read the manga and it took me about 2 months, some days reading a lot of chapters an others not reading at all. The anime would take a lot more time to get through.

Zamber: Is that a sky squid? No, that's a sky octopus. It's actually a good thing it grabbed onto the ship, as it acts like a parachute on their way down off the clouds. Unfortunately it shrank down to the size of a normal octopus when they got to low, but still hadn't splashed down yet.

The song in the vid isn't from one piece but the ost of the show has multiple composers under its belt like shiro hamaguchi who is known for writing music for Final Fantasy.

One Piece is an adventure like none other. I was a hater, I mean a hardcore HATER, for years. I hated the art style, wasn't interested in pirates, thought 1,000+ episodes was insane....now I'm in the mid 800s and feel like it's gone in the blink of an eye. It's a beautiful, emotional, incredible journey full of characters you will love and a vibrant world full of wonder and emotional weight like that will leave you thinking about this story all the time. Cannot suggest watching it enough. Trust me, an ex-hater.

The best part of this is that next to none of those shots were meaningless establishing shots. If they showed something, you can almost be guaranteed that we shall visit it in borderline excessive detail at some point during the series. There really is no other series like one piece when it comes to crafting such a vibrant, living world~
