The Breakfast Club | Judd Nelson Says "Eat my shorts" to the Vice Principal
Ойын-сауық
Stuck in detention with other students, John Bender (Judd Nelson) decides to have a little fun by pranking the Vice Principal, Richard Vernon (Paul Gleeson). Much to his dismay, Bender racks up back to back detentions as a result of his continued insubordination as he denies his participation in the act.

Synopsis: They were five students with nothing in common, faced with spending a Saturday detention together in their high school library. At 7 a.m., they had nothing to say, but by 4 p.m. they had bared their souls to each other and become good friends. John Hughes, creator of the critically acclaimed Sixteen Candles, wrote, directed and produced this hilarious and often touching comedy starring Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy. To the outside world they were simply the Jock, the Brain, the Criminal, the Princess and the Kook, but to each other, they would always be The Breakfast Club.

I’m not positive if this is an accurate claim, but I did hear that John Hughes said that Judd Nelson is very difficult to work with. After the breakfast, Clubb. He said he would never work with him again.. It’s too bad because his talent was so amazing. I heard Chevy Chase was difficult to work with also

Watched it as a kid and thought the adult parts were boring. As an adult now, I see the utter regret in his face as he realizes he took it too far. And the convo w Carl: “That’s what wakes me up in the middle of the night. That when I get old, these kids are gonna take care of me.” Carl: “I wouldn’t count on it.” 😮😮😮

And they probably didn't do a very good job of taking care of him throughout those early 2000s years when he was sick before he passed in 2006. I don't know if others besides me noticed this but I noticed a worsening of attitudes of people in general in the adult world during the years 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 compared to how it was back in the 1980s and even 1990s. Maybe it's because the newer arrogant attitudes of the world were still in school and not taking over the world yet pre-2000. We know how teenagers were in the 80s but the older adult world then still had a more old fashioned orderly way of doing things, until the newer generations were really starting to take over when we crossed over into the new millennium. I'm not sure how accurate my view is on all of this though

In detention, we would always have what we called "leftovers" kids that did not go to college and stayed in town and went to high school parties till they were 24. which was common, drive on the school grounds and rive up on the grass and stop at the window, the detention/security person would run outside get in his car, and chase..and we would just walk out...and we never asked them to do it?

Awesomeness
Such a banger film
3:02 - I laugh every time
6:14 Never noticed this scene before, but I guess it’s one of those things you understand the significance of as you get older... Vernon is definitely the antagonist in this film, a realistic portrayal of a “villain” for the kids in detention. But at the end of the day he’s just a fed-up vice principal with flaws just like every other character. What makes him so villainous is the authority he holds over their heads. Based on the purposeful inclusion of that scene, we know that Vernon isn’t a complete bastard and he does regret losing his temper with John. I also don't think Vernon knows the full extent of the neglect, or rather abuse, in Bender’s case. I honestly think that if Vernon were to know the full truth, or if he were to have seen Bender's burn scars in that closet, he would've eased up on the kid and would've been a little more sympathetic. At the end of the day, Vernon is just fed up and is too worn out to consider anything past the surface level regarding Bender - why he acts the way he does, what he's gone through, what it's like to live in his shoes. Vernon just sees the outside; the attitude Bender portays, the shitstarter who loves to press buttons. He sees Bender as everything that’s wrong with the younger generation and he fears that that generation will be taking care of him someday. He's too fed up to look beyond that.

I never thought about it as a kid - but Bender purposely gets detentions as much as he can, because it gets him out of the house away from his abusive father. At least at school, he can have some semblance of control. But in the scene when Vernon locks Bender in the closet and threatens him with physical violence, it is only then that Bender feels helpless again, like at home.
4:54 I love this 😂
Allison tried so hard not to laugh by hiding her face.

Back when I went to school we had real teachers and principles that had a set. When you lipped off to them one of 3 things happened. 1, You got showered in volume and spit. 2, The same, but pinned up against a wall or jacked up off your feet against the wall. 3, Grabbed by ya collar and dragged out the classroom and slammed into a chair in a closet until your parents came to take you home for a 3 to 5 day suspension. Those were the good old days. Taught respect and built character.

@@uome20bukz Oh yeah, I just made it all up haha SMH! When I was in elementary school whenever a hyperactive fool kid was spazzing out and disrupting the class, or the time in my case in the 2nd grade, a perverted boy was kissing me and pulling me down onto the floor!!! The teacher ran out crying to get the Vice Principal, he came charging in like a bull elephant and ripped that little deviant pervert up off of me by his wrist, legs and feet dangling, and throwing him over his hip! HA! Then he turned on the school`s PA and paddled his sick butt and the whole school heard him crying! 5 mins later he marched him back into the classroom all red faced and tears rolling down his cheeks, ordering him to sit down! He then yelled at the crying teacher at the front of the class for not pulling that little pervert up off of me while he was assaulting me. ha There were the arrested development 3rd and 4th grade bullies lipping off to a teachers. The Principal would come marching in and rip them up off their feet by their underarms or grab them in a crushing bear hug and haul them out! Those were the good old days when the freaks and bullies were dealt with swiftly and harshly! ha

@Shanethefilmmaker

Me I couldn't believe it at first, but Hot Rod and Bender are kind of the same. Bender is a hot head, whom has a good heart underneath as well as great leadership capabilities. Look at the hallway scene, they didn't have to go with him, but they did. Hot Rod is a Hot Head with a Good Heart, with the potential for great leadership, that was realized once he became Rodimus Prime. Hot Rod is basically a more idealistic version of John bender.
