This man is the reason I still play drums. His creativity is lost on the haters. Why does technical ability make you the best drummer? My personal opinion would be that the best drummers are the ones that can show what is in there heart by playing.

He's plenty technical. He played in Antimasque with Cedric and Omar from ATDI/Mars Volta, and it's because they picked him to.

I was here to listen one more time to travis's song but i couldnt avoid reading these comments. You know what? Ive been listening to blink since i was thirteen, now im nineteen. I had never wanted to played any instrument till i listened to travis. Last year i could buy a drum and till now i still play it. The fact is that as a fan of blink 182, travis always surprises me with his beats, but the most i like about him that every concert i see of blink he is there with the same energy and with new material to show us. He is rich, he has a family, but you know what? he keeps playing, doing what he loves and bringing us new songs, from blink, hip hop, transplant and whatever you want(he was still there without a hand and then without a leg). So, i dont understand people how are here to say "he is overrated" "any drummer is so much better than him". This isnt a competition, if you dont like him, dont watch him, and if you think that some1 is better than him, watch the other drummer but remember this is MUSIC and travis never plays it wrong. You wanna listen to him playing some solos like a jazz player? he wont do it, he has groove, speed and technique, if you are a drummer you know it, but he'll play what he like and how he like to play it, no how and what you like. I wanna say that i listen to other different drummers like jojo mayer, benny greg and dennis chambers (lots of drummer) which play really different style and i keep listening to travis :)

The opening groove is a pretty cool one incorporating the Swiss triplet, but aside from that the song is pretty straightforward technically speaking. That being said, all the people ripping on him for it are delusional. If you say playing a 4/4 beat is the sign of weak drummer, YOU are the drummers old school guys talk about when they say up and coming drummers these days just don't get it. It's about serving the song at the end of the day. That's your job as a MUSICIAN, not just a drummer. To be honest, this mans drumming makes Blink different from all the other pop punk bands. I'd like to see most of you try to play Dumpweed perfectly. The fact that he sometimes provides really unique grooves like the one in this song while still serving the song as a whole, is what makes him good.

I agree with most of this until that stupid "you're the drummers old drummers talk about" dribble so is Travis you dolt. You think the old school drummers are lining up listening to Blink? Fuck off with that. Also, one of the reasons why people remember Blink is because of Travis's over playing. Pull your head out of your ass. People literally know him FOR HIS OVERPLAYING. It's not like he just sticks to the pocket and isn't all over the place staying as busy as possible. It might be in 4/4, and he might not be tossing out rudiments, but he is still over playing. It's pop punk. When i was younger he got shit for HOW busy he was. Now kids are defending him by saying he just writes parts that fit the music like it's fucking Back in Black or some shit? Barker over plays the shit out of these songs and that's what is noticable.

The fact he has been playing for so long and still manages to keep his material fresh is what I appreciate the most about him as a musician. That and the fact the guy works hard! Most of the videos I've seen of him he's been practicing on a pad or something. I've always admired him as a musician to be honest.

This is coming from someone who thinks people rate him a bit too highly. He is clearly one of the best in the "mainstream music business", however you want to define that term.

who's hating? i don't seem anything but admiration here. he's not the greatest drummer of all time... because THERE'S NO SUCH THING. you can't simply state that someone is the "best" at something as relativistic as music appreciation. *_has he brought something unique to the craft?_* i would say he has. *_has he explored different styles-has he grown as a musician?_* absolutely. *_has he been influential?_* MOST DEFINITELY. those, to me, are some of the important questions to ask when deciding on the merits of a musician.

Like i said before, his drumming were all built by his influences to play "rock" and stuff. So he created all his grooves and patterns thinking about this. He is an amazing and solid "rock" drummer. Sometimes he uses more body moves to execute his songs, so what? We dont need to play like robots... Just appreciate his style and music! He is also a good showman, in the beginning i felt that travis was the man of the band.

AC/DC and ABR aren't the same genres but compare Thunderstruck to Rationalist. Which is easier to play objectively speaking? There is a reason why guitarists and drummers start off with easier genres. Nobody starts off playing Necrophagist or Veil o Maya or ABR.

Riccardo Spadano Music isn't a competition, there is something that makes every drummer unique in their own way regardless of what genre they're labelled by. The drummer should never be restricted to what their band's music plays. If I'm correct Travis Barker has been preaching diversity since he started with Blink. Now to all the drummers out there who copy Travis Barker's setup and style of drumming, even going as far as dressing like him, stop it now and be your own drummer lol.

Drummer Nate thank you! Im not the biggest fan of travis barker but i can still learn some shit from him. Tony royster jr said that travis can play his ass off so if he gets respect from a great drummer like tony then he's obviously good.
