Check out wallets from RE:FORM: bit.ly/3OhEzJ1
The only thing fashion fans can agree on is which brands deserve to get clowned on. From Sketchers to Philipp Plein, let's take a tour through everything clothing enthusiasts love to hate. Do they deserve it? Maybe not, but at least it makes for some good memes.

It's not just second and third tier countries. You see tons of Plein in LA still. That look is more or less permanently in style for the showy new money set. And more importantly, the wannabe showy new money set. I would also argue that it is anti-fashion. You can do anti-fashion in a bunch of different ways. Like, classic prep is anti-fashion.

I think Balenciaga is next on the Chopping Block. They’ve been embroiled in controversy for a good while now (The Phrase any publicity is good publicity no longer holds water in the modern era), and Demna’s borderline extreme adoption of Logo Heavy motifs (even if done in an ironic or post ironic manner) is somewhat tiring at this point.

The "problem" with fashion is that it is worn within a cultural context, not just purely aesthetics. Actually aesthetics are largely dependant on the zeitgeist. I might want to wear something that's counterculture, and when it becomes mainstream, it loses it's impact, aesthetics notwithstanding

  • @docdoom44

@@duncan.o-vic this is just a terrible explanation. While rural tastes and preferences differ from city taste that would not be a satisfactory explanation. Many new money clientele and wealthy from developing countries have a huge influence on designers. Just look at china’s consumer market being one of the largest luxury markets in the world. You can see the huge influence that has every Chinese new year you see collections or clothes designed specifically for those tastes. To reduce the brands gaudiness and appeal to country folk and conservatives is just reductive.

@@docdoom44 Actually I think the reason you percieve it as new money from developing countries is because that's where you find most conservatives and most non-urban money. As someone (from a developing country) living in Germany (not a developing country) where PP is from, I'd say it is more about cultural, rather than financial background. Also, German (and central + eastern European) taste for fashion is in general more conservative regardles of money or country's development level.

I stopped caring about supreme in 2017 because of the insane resale prices. Recently, however, I bought a couple of T shirts I wanted to buy back then but never could. I like wearing them more now, because it doesn’t seem like I do it for the hype or whatever, it’s just because I genuinely like them

Few thoughts I’d like to share here. I just started buying Supreme (not the cringe box logo stuff) this year basically because I’ve never had much money (thanks, US Army) and in that same “thanks US Army” token, I’ve always worn “GORP” (Arcteryx, North Face, Solomon etc) and also Birkenstocks lol.. that’s what most military folks wear. Stuff that’s quality usually and just own a few pairs of civilian clothes from brands we know are tougher/versatile. Totally making well into 6 figures now with a good civilian job and reliving my youth of looking at cool brands I can now afford aka Bape, Supreme, Evisu. The cyclic part of fashion is very true and applies to younger people who now have money that can afford things they couldn’t when they were younger. I’m also big into cars and that’s the same that kinda goes on with that realm. The 30 year olds have that money now to import these cars we saw on F&F and wanna buy $50k 30yr old Japanese cars or what have you. Great video. Once again, gotta stress that I’m big into Supreme now, not everyone follows the cycle.

Glad the hype on bape and supreme isnt as high anymore. I loved the brands to begin with and now that makes it easier and cheaper to cop most of their stuff. It’s funny coz the people who used to hype those brands up to begin with just moved to other brands to hype up and ruin. Bottom line, if you actually buy what you like to begin with, a brand being in the spotlight or not won’t matter much to you.

I recently have been getting more into Bape in my early 30's and they have some really nice pieces to choose from. I grabbed a varsity jacket on SSENSE for 60% off and then saw Dave had it on in the Sprinter video. It def still hits tbh

5 years ago copping Bape on sale would've been pretty much unheard of! I noticed even retail prices for Bape seem to be lower than they used to be (or at least lower relative to other brands) so it's getting more accessible for sure. Who knows, maybe that will encourage a new generation to give it a try as well

Lots of people still dislike Kezno for sure although I'm glad to see Nigo is changing up the brand and giving it some new energy. Essentials is super played out at this point but to my understanding it's also a genuinely decent product so I'm not surprised people are happy to keep wearing it. If I owned any I'd definitely be rocking it around the house

I stopped cringing at everything fashion related I did in the past bc what is out now will be in again in probably the not too far future and most stuff I do now will be potentially cringeworthy the very next year. I really don't care anymore bc in the end it's not me evaluating myself, but other people trying to give me the feeling I was stupid and better go and buy brand new stuff, so I'm not judged negatively. Also, nice vid. 👍

ON finally become a serious runner contender in the running shoe market with their release of the cloud monster and the cloud surfer 7. Their shoes were typically seen as gimmicky to most runners prior to the release of those models. I believe that when ON finally started making good running shoes people started flocking to their brand for functional reasons. If ON keeps design/developing good shoes, then I don't see them losing their appeal. Maybe the hype will die but their core market (runners) will still buy their shoes.

I feel like Stone Island has a certain negative image here in the Netherlands. If I say it’s one of my favourite brands, people usually don’t get it and think of the simple pieces that most people buy rather than their special fabric pieces or the shadow project. At the same time, this video is about how fashion enthusiasts hate certain brands and I don’t think that’s the case here, it’s more that their simple pieces are seen in public more than their really cool stuff.

  • @ThisIsAntwon

    @ThisIsAntwon

Same here in the UK tbh, if you're wearing Stone Island there's a bigger chance you're a football hooligan than a fashion enthusiast. Generally though they'll go for the cheaper items or more 'standard' jackets - anything like the Ghost line or Shadow Project doesn't quite carry the same association

hey there everyone guy with a bape hoodie in my pfp here. in my teenage years I always wanted a bape hoodie because I wanted to emulate my favorite rappers and be engrossed in the culture at the time, but by the time I had the money to afford one for myself fashion as a whole had generally moved on and I became more aware as a consumer that bape is just owned by some super conglomerate overcharging for subpar products. I don’t even actually own the hoodie in my pfp anymore for these reasons, but by the time I’m 30 I’m sure I’m gonna be clamoring to get another one again to relive my youth

@@ThisIsAntwon It has been an educational journey buying these popular pieces though, I guess anything has the potential of becoming tacky and unpopular, bad taste. I used to like Off-White, Stone Island and all that, Can't stand them now 😂 unless it's items without much branding, then I can appreciate the design. But even for things like Carhartt, I wouldn't say they are uncool, but I definitely avoid buying them now just because of how popular they've become. And I'm being extra cautious now buying anything with big logo😄

10:14 the Timberland x BAPE collab this year went hard. I think it’s more the overt clashing camo and the shark hoodies that are out completely and they were mainly worn by loser hypebeasts anyway. BAPE has put out consistently good collections since it’s inception.

I think its funny how people who now hate on skinny jeans wore them themself, and now since relaxed is trendy, new is good, old is bad. Yet, in a few years we might go back to whatever was popular a decade ago or two and everyone and your mom will make fun of the people who still wear relaxed clothing . Do people really lack the knowledge that things come and go? You must be really young to not see the bigger picture.
