Joe Rantz was my father in law. I married his first child Fred and our son and I were so glad to see this movie and how it got so much right with Joe’s story and the Boys in the Boat. We left the theatre with happy tears.

The book brought tears, more so Joe's struggle, but also the inspiration of the rag tag team and their victories. I'm glad the movie was made because everyone needs to hear this story.

I’m from puget sound area and been to many of the areas Joe grew up in. Read the book. Wish the movie would have added 30 minutes to go over more of his childhood. His story is a lot like my grandfather’s who boxed during the Great Depression to make money

Yes Joyce married Joe and they were married until separated by death. They lived in the same house in Lake Forest Park in Seattle all their lives together. She was wonderful, welcoming me and my two kids from a previous marriage when my husband Fred brought me to meet Joe and Joyce. They were wonderful to me always.

I love this movie and the story. The only thing missing is Joyce at the end - she should have been standing in the doorway smiling as Joe and his grandson walked back toward the house. This way the audience would have known that they ended up together.

The main thing Joe Rantz learns mostly from George Pocock is to finally trust the other boys in the boat! Everyone in Joes life up until that time had let him down. Growing up Joe had almost always been on his own, he had trouble trusting anyone!

Joe and Joyce had four kids and adopted a fifth. Three girls and two boys. Judy is the one who Joe lived with at the end of his life and she was a neighbor of Daniel James Brown who wrote The Boys in the Boat in 2013. She asked him to write the book about her father. Her father said he wanted the book to be about the boys and the boat.

Fascinating story! It’s fun to hear the interviews. It’s great that so much research went into understanding The characters. I’m impressed and inspired by what Joe Ranz went through and overcame.

Well told story - of both the original events and the making of the movie. Watched this just hours after seeing the movie. I’m curious about the creative decision to quickly zoom in and out. Perhaps it had todo with the cinematographer’s comments on how to insert variety and visual interest into what could be repetitive shots. Couldn’t get into the theater Christmas Day last week here in Seattle! Thanks all for your care in telling this story.

Read the book when it first came....will read it again soon.... brilliantly authored.... hopefully the movie will open here in New Zealand! The British team finished 4th in the final....such an awful number in any Olympic final....so close yet so far.....Hugh Laurie s (House) dad was on that team!

What a remarkable young man was Joe Rantz, as well as the rest of the rowing team. But again, a lot of those young men from the Great Depression era were of special breed. Those were the same WW2 soldiers and the Greatest Generation. I have a lot of respect for all of them.

A lot more male rowers in UK. It’s like baseball. So he probably cast the best actors who had enough prior experience so the learning curve wouldn’t be as steep. Have no idea. Loved book. Read it on the plane home after rowing in Henley Masters (2d place)
