Ойын-сауық

For today's in-depth review, we dive into, in my opinion, one of the best films ever made, The Book of Eli. Released in 2010, this film has amazing visuals, a fantastic (and basically) perfect score, and a story so captivating that you'll wanna watch it over and over again!

*_John 3.16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”_* _Jesus Christ loves you. The best, and most overlooked aspect of the movie to me, is that in Hebrew, "ELI" can loosely translate to, "My God",.... So the title literally could mean, "The Book of My God"

My favorite part of the film, when Eli is attempting to leave the "bar" and is surrounded by the townspeople and Carnegie's henchman. He rolls his sleeves up a bit and says: "Cursed be the ground for our sake. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for us. For out of the ground we were taken, for the dust we are" (as he unsheaths his machete) "and to the dust we shall return." That scene still gives me chills

I saw this in theaters and loved it. The revelation Eli was blind was brilliant and unexpected. The man that caused so much death to get the bible and it was useless to him after everything he did to get it. And looking back blindness makes your other senses better. Eli literally smelled a trap and could hear very well. The truth was there but we couldn't see it. We were as blind as Eli. And seeing how it was a nuclear apocalypse Eli most likely went blind by looking at where a Nuke went off and the flash blinded him.

You did a great job in this video. Here's another hint as to Eli's blindness. When he approaches the old folks house he does a contact check with the toe of his boot at the Porch Step before stepping up onto the steps. This is not just done to gauge the distance but you also ascertain the sturdiness of the structure in which he will be stepping upon. To somebody with such a heightened state of auditory and haptic awareness, it is a good opportunity to analyze the object before he puts his weight upon it.

As he approaches Eli, he walks into the light and feels morally convicted, confessing his sins as he comes closer. As a true man of the Most High, Eli walks with His light which exposes the truth. Brilliant acting. Proverbs 20:8 A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes. If you don't know Christ, now's the time to get to know him. He's the most faithful loyal friend anyone could ever have. Things are only going to get crazier until the end.

Anyone who believes Eli is blind must logically explain away ALL of these facts. Times are from the movie. 0:3:24 Eli picks the cat up and looks at it, then turns it to another angle to look and BRUSHES OFF ASH from one side. 0:4:46 He thumps the TOP of the window opening with his bag. He can see the open window. He's not checking location because he knows where to hit with his bag on the top of the door. 0:4:51 He looks right at the skeleton, he doesn't feel for one. 0:5:30 He knows precisely where the edge of the drop is and how far down. No checks required. 0:6:43 He sets his gun down because he sees the sink and he intends to get his canteen out to try to fill it. 0:6:54 Without checking for a divider in the sink (some don't have them), he knows where it is. He also knows the location of the knobs and the faucet without checking for them. 0:7:29 He knows exactly where (and how many) the handles are on the doors, no checks. 0:7:48 He lifts the pantleg and reaches right for the laces without even checking to see if the boots have soles or laces either one. 0:8:06 He stops to take off his sunglasses in the midst of his excitement. Hmmmmmmmm... 0:8:34 He looks directly at his thumb. 0:11:50 He's squinting in the bright sunlight. Then he looks around the room. 0:12:10 He looks more than one direction out a window, then up at the Sun, where we can see his perfectly clear eyes. He looks a few more directions after that. 0:13:58 He turns to look behind himself. Useless act if he is a sonar superhero. 0:20:20 He's thinking about going into the town to charge his battery because he's LOOKING at the sign telling its presence. 0:26:50 You can clearly see that his eyes are in perfect condition. Again. 0:28:12 The only people in the bar he looks at are the ones he recognizes from the attack on the road. 0:28:22 He can see the exact location of the bar, and knows where the bar is the moment he enters. 0:53:54 Eli can see Redridge lowering his weapon. After that, he keeps an eye on him for a moment as he turns to leave. 1:03:50 After hearing the bird, he stops and looks in its direction. Two seconds later he is clearly watching it fly over and is looking when he shoots it. 1:08:00 After she asks her question, he turns and looks over his shoulder directly at her, which would be uncomfortable for the neck muscles. No blind person would do that, especially perfectly directing the eyes. 1:10:18 He looks directly at the moon. No heat source to tell him direction. 1:13:37 He is leading her, he knows exactly where the stone-lined walkway ends. No logical reason for him to even follow it, but something natural for a sighted person to do without thinking. He even looks down at the stones at 1:13:44. 1:14:26 Often given as "proof" of blindness, he says he didn't see the sign. When a home owner has a gun pointed at you and asks if you read the sign, are you going to answer "I read it and ignored it"? Seriously? This is not proof. 1:14:43 Eli looks at her after she looks at him. Not a blind action. 1:16:15 He looks between Martha and George as they converse. Not a blind action. Also another good view of his perfect eyes. 1:17:33 He LOOKS OUT THE CLOSED WINDOW. Sonar will not help in this case, nor locating by their sounds. In fact he would likely not even know the window is there if he's blind. 1:20:47 He is looking all over the place as they come in. 1:32:09 When he tells her his important lesson, he looks directly at her from the corner of his eyes. Not a blind person's action. 1:34:14 He looks across the bay and says "That's it." A blind person wouldn't know what, if anything, is there. He'd say "It's there." 1:34:21 He looks down to see where to step up. 1:35:10 He's obviously looking directly at the island. Nothing he does there is coherent with blindness. 1:39:30 He's clearly looking the man squarely in the eyes. 1:40:44 to 1:41:12 We can see the difference in contrast between the black pupils of his eyes and the white reflection change, the pupil becomes much more white. Especially visible at 1:41:08, as he says "God said, let there be light." Easily a clue that God temporarily restored his sight, if you're not refusing to believe that line of thought.

@@akiramenai4973 but those times can also be an argument for both faith, which he was led by and again the increase in his other senses. Sure he can "look" at a window if he can discern the difference in sounds from an open space as a window and a solid space as in echoes off a wall. With gaps and stuff from drop offs and cliffs etc, again its a case of discerning sounds and echoes. Feeling differences in the air. As far as the island of Alcatraz, he probably can hear the water hitting the shores. As stated in other such threads, if you can argue that Eli is blind, or even "legally blind," then you can argue that any exceptional person in any movie is blind. The directors are good directors. The main actor is a very good actor. If they had wanted to make a movie about a blind man, they would have. But they didn't. They made a movie about a man who was blind before the war perhaps, but who had his vision restored by God for the duration of his mission.

In the film, the way God protected Eli was through physical guidance, to be in the right place at the right time, since he was blind. At the end of the film, as Solara walks down the road, she disappears. I believe this is God's way of protecting her since this will hide her from roaming bands of cannibalistic rapists who would do her harm. Bad men cannot hurt who they don't know exist.

Or she could’ve been an angel. Or, the being “Solara” who, circa 800 ACE (?), mythically, was a guide to the Temple of “Olara.” A fortified structure of jagged, steep, stone rock faces; an island in its surroundings. Much like Alcatraz. Shiva Olara -> S’Olara-> Solara. Almost as if this is not the first time in history this has happened. A few reasons this movie is so amazing is you see different things each time you watch it; it can be interpreted different ways; it weaves itself into our fears of what can seem the inevitable; many questions were answered in an ambiguous ways, leading to questioning your interpretation - much like questioning faith; I could go on for days. This is obviously one of my favorite movies ever! Sorry to fangirl.

I watched this movie for the first time a few months ago. Since then I have been reading my bible every so often and try to read a few chapters each day. It has been my push to get closer to God. When I have doubts or feel that I need to read more, I think of how Eli replies to Solara when she asks if he really reads the same book everyday and he says “without fail.” This helps me to get motivated to read it when I can. But that’s kind of hard when I have to read a book for school at the same time. I’m so glad I watched this movie and it is a movie I think about every so often to help motivate me due to Eli’s faith. I hope one day I will be born again. Thank you for making this video, and God Bless you. 🙏

Very impressed by your vulnerability. Yes. We must be born again. That’s God’s goal and desire for anyone who will repent of their ways and believe the gospel. To become born again we must follow in the footsteps of Jesus and the other Apostles. Therefore, read the word and do the word. Luke 4 is your commission if you wish to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. Remember, Judas betrayed Jesus. Peter denied Jesus. Thomas doubted Jesus. They were not yet born again. Read Matthew 25:40. Read Isaiah 58. Read James 1. In these verses God describes what the life of Christ looks like. Do these things in faith believing. Ask God to lead you. He tells us where He is. In the least of these. That’s where you wait upon the lord. Hit me up if you have anything you’d like to ask. Shalom.

  • @LilRedDog

So here is my take: Eli was blind, until he was chosen by God. Not only was he invulnerable but was gifted sight. Up and until he is shot by Carnegie. That look of confusion is him also loosing his sight. There are many foreshadows that imply he was blind the whole time, as you point out, but there are far more times when he clearly 'reads the room'. He looks people in the eye. He does not turn his head like daredevil would to hear the room. And his body position is nothing like the character that is truly blind: Claudia. If they were both blind she would, also, have super heightened senses and she never diverts her eyes, she stares straight forward. Eli looks around throughout the movie. This is not a mistake that actor Denzel Washington would make. His character can see. Until he can't. In the movie he is, truly, a doing God's work with all the miracles needed.

It's my interpretation that at the end when Claudia was touching the braille bible, wasn't smiling because she could read it or felt something from the words. She finally would get to witness the poetic undoing of her captor. Hence I don't believe she was lying when she said she couldn't read it, and it probably added to her happiness knowing she couldn't be forced to do so.

  • @Stephen03S600

  • @laztheripper

You ascribe her reaction to the braille, her simply knowing the book is a bible and that it's in braille would give her the same feeling, and probably to a greater extent, knowing she couldn't be forced to read it to him. There's also that she touched the equivalent of one phrase from a random page, while in the middle of an interaction. So even if she could read it, she wouldn't have "felt something from the words" from so little. It's the least likely scenario.

Solara is the new messenger and once Eli met her his power began to transfer to her. The final scene where she is dressed like him would seem to confirm this.
