In the first part of this trip I already showed you a little about Chefchaouen and its history. But also, before this we took a tour of the beautiful city of Tangier. As I explained, its economy depended on the port and ferry terminal, but in recent years tourism has become important, too. Without a doubt, you have to visit both places, since they are only 2 hours away.
Chefchaouen is a small city located in the middle of the Rif Mountains, in the northwest of Morocco. It is also known as the Blue City for its impressive blue buildings in the old town. Chaouen has been painted blue since the 15th century, when Jewish refugees fleeing the Spanish Inquisition painted their homes blue, to symbolise the sky and heaven. This city is noted for its items and textiles, especially rugs and blankets. Other products famous in Chefchaouen include goat cheese. You will definitely need a few hours for shopping because there are many local things that you won't find elsewhere.
Art is very present in Morocco, you can find it in paintings, music and dance. Locals really like to dance and play instruments.
Another very typical thing in Morocco are the cafes. Locals love to spend their afternoons there and drink typical Moroccan mint tea. They also spend hours playing board games.
The only transportation we had was the bus but there was a problem. The driver was at the police station since 6 o'clock, because he had argued with someone. He came back hours later but there was no room on the bus for us. They also offered us these cars but it was very expensive.
Finally, a random large car appeared that offered to take us to our city for 5 dollars each. We were on that minibus with 10 other strangers, and I have to say it was a lot of fun.
We were also in the city of Tetouan and we are going to do an activity that locals do a lot and that you are going to love: the HAMMAM experience!
Spending a morning in the Moroccan spa is quite an experience. I was obviously in the women's spa and the feeling of care by the staff is impressive. It is an experience that immerses you in this culture and relaxes a lot.
