The Russians never said that Kharkov is not important because it is. They have been very clear on the territory they consider as part of Russia. However the strategy is clearly still one of attrition, stretching the Ukrainian defenders, grinding them down. Seems to be working as Kiev is running out of able bodied men to conscript, in addition NATO is running out of reserve stocks, some members are now supplying out of their operational stocks. So even if the progress has been slow, the collapse may be quick.

I doubt very much that Russia will target Kiev or any of the major cities in Ukraine. I think they will continue to take towns and villages and eventually surround or approach the outskirts of each of the big cities while continuing to decimate the Ukrainian military. The Ukrainians will eventually be forced to the negotiating table where the conditions that the Russians will demand will include referendums for each of the oblasts for self determination. The referendums will determine the new boundaries of the Russian Federation and Ukraine. Russia has no interest in destroying the cities or taking the civilian lives unnecessarily.

Bakhmut and Awdiyvka have been lessons for the Russians. They operate smarter and more consistent these days by not attacking the most fortified positions Ukrainians have to offer.

Dima, Correct about the convicts holding weapons. First, if they are real criminals, they will have no problem asserting a run for it rather than go to the front OR leave the front at the first opportune moment, even in surrender; second, if they were incarcerated due to draft dodging, they may refuse to fight from the start of their induction into the AFU and/or surrender to the Russians first chance and/or flee with other convicts.

I'm always impressed how russians with no free-speech can babble about 'Nazis' in Ukraine when no one in the governments of the over 50 nations that are supporting Ukraine can identify ANY Nazis in the government there. It must be a magic skill. Note that no one in the russian government ever names any Nazi in the Ukrainian government or provides any evidence whatsoever. None. It's just propaganda babble. On the other hand, we know that the guy who started and actually runs Wagner is a Nazi because we have seen his tattoos, as well as several of those on the Wagner forces. Even the name 'Wagner' was given to his troops after his favorite composer and Hitler's favorite composer, Wagner. So yes, there clearly are some Nazi links in this war, but they aren't from the Ukrainian side, where the country's president is Jewish.

I recently watched a video about The Six Battles for Kharkiv. Kharkiv was fought over four times during WWII. Kharkiv has been fought over twice during this recent SMO. The video mentioned that the Donetsk area was the most difficult area for the Germans and Russians in WWII because of its built-up industrial and populated area. It appears the path of least resistance for the Russians to move West is via Sumy. One possible battle plan for this Russian Summer Offensive would be to replace all the current frontline troops stationed along stable positions with fresh green troops. Give those experienced relieved troops plenty of R&R and prepare them for the Sumy Offensive. I'm going to give Sumy the 'Big Arrow".

These sides make it seem like the war is a video game. On both sides many sons are dying for the glory of the leader's this must stop! I have many Ukrainian and Russian friends and life in their countries has really deteriorated because of the war.

Just Speculation what if the Russians, in a surprise move, while Ukraine is sending whatever they can North, made a Dash for Odessa? which would eliminate a lot of pressure on Crimea and cut off Ukraine from the Black Sea? Just wild speculation but it would cause a lot of issues for Ukraine etc.

I doubt that would work they will have a huge reserve permanently in Odessa at this stage in the war they would have to have twice as many different fronts active to make them move men out of that area in my opinion I know Ukraine have lost a lot of men but they can’t be that desperate yet Mabey in another 8months to a year at this rate

I agree sending in prisoners when you are scraping the barrel for recruits is not a good idea. Russia involved prisoners at the outset of the war, so not only was it a continuing option, but it could also be done with the rest of the army. That way its harder for them to rebel and such

If the Ukrainians from the area west of Dnieper manage to threaten south of Russia past Crimea, that is at least 400 km. Therefore to protect Belgorod and other places by the border, they will need 500 km buffer zone all around, or take 90% of Ukraine, leaving a tiny area centered around Lviv.

British Foreign Minister David Cameron promised much longer reach missiles presumably more Storm Shadows . At the time of announcement, the obtuse FM stated how Ukrainians employed those British missiles to strike long range into mainland Russia was up to the Ukrainians. We live in perilous times.

Was starlink problems in other places. Severe solar storms lately....but if isolated only I one area then yeah...must be something else.

The reason starlink had problems was the solar flares so blame the sun for that one.

They are probably saying starlink went down to cover up for zelensky having stole the money that was supposed to be used for building defenses.

Virtually all of it is not money, but the assigned value of equipment and supplies. Which isn't really the actual value. As old equipment is already paid for and the price is simply adjusted for the current year.

My English teacher done tole me: "If you use the word "significant", you gotta be prepared to answer the question: "What does it signify?" As for "a significant number of", just tell us the number. It's OK to say "about".
