Saw JM yesterday (Day 2 in London) despite the Silver Sky being in the rack by the piano he only used the BLK1 and he only played Gravity. Hearing his rig in isolation was super interesting. With the drives on it was way more middley than I was expecting. To me what really stood out though was I could happily just listen to John play acoustic or just the piano. An instrument and his voice and a good song, happy days

Nothing beats a Strat

I was there and I can safely say It absolutely facemelted me on that middle PU. This was exactly what I was hoping for. Just him and total silence with an electric.

​@@theengelsbak Gravity was insane, i was hoping that he would play it, but i thought that there is no way he would play it on electric. Do you have the whole concert recorder or just gravity?

I swear. Copenhagen was insane show!! Was so happy he took the blk1 out! Magic!! He was so on fire this evening I hope he will pick it again on the Paris show. We will see. Fingers crossed.

Hoping to see the Blk1 in Glasgow!

Was gonna go to this show, but the purchase wasn't going through, so I had to go to Oslo instead. We only got acoustic renditions and he didn't even play "Gravity"... Seeing this only makes me regret it even more (and I don't even live close to any of those countries). Never again. Standard shows only. Keep up the good work, Jesse!

I do love his Silver Sky with the alembic blaster he played during the summer 2023 Dead & Co tour. That thing sounded so good through his rig.

I think the SS se sounds better than a fender mexican made strat. But man that strat tone is miles better than the silver sky

He uses it on smaller boards a lot. Saves the original for the larger world tours. Seems that it plays such a minor role on this board he doesn't mind the MKII sounds

Looks like John has become much more of a fan of this position after playing with D&C for so long. I don’t think I have ever heard him use pickup on the Black1? Has anyone else

He has been using more, yes, but he's always been a fan of it. SDIABR was recorded with the middle pickup, despite being played on the 4th position live.

If this is the original BLK1 prolly because of the warp in the neck.

There is something so special about him and this guitar, maybe it’s me but he simply plays better on it

I think this is the CS BLK1, not THE BLK1, because: 1- the exposed wood on the original has darkened a lot with the use over the years, and 2- mid pup sounds trebbier than what I remember the BLK1 sounded (might be wrong, though).

So I was at both nights in London and I think he brought it out so there was at LEAST one electric guitar appearance in the set! He switched from playing Changing to I Will Be Found at the last moment when a fan right at the back yelled it out. Having heard both in the same room through the same rig I think it was defo set up more for the Silver Sky but the Black1 still sounded great! (Nowhere near as dialled in as him playing gravity in the same arena in 2017)… the whole thing was also a lot cleaner than this video
