No, Blizzard have already pointed out they did not make it, they do not use it and it was made with no input from them at all, and specifically the Overwatch team literally did not even know it was being made. King, the woefully-overlooked third of the company, are the ones who made the 'diversity space tool' and put Overwatch characters (as well as Nintendo characters) in as examples for their GDC slide show. ABK have literally admitted this, publicly, and it has been widely reported on. I swear, I love Pat and Woolie, but sometimes they and almost always their viewers seem to not read a single word beyond the headlines and prioritise getting in those sweet sweet reddit dunks over doing even the most basic degree of research.

They clearly got caught with a Ku Klux Klan outfit in their closet and Blizzard's response is "NO, NO, that's not MINE. It's, uhhh, my roommate's outfit. Geeze I didn't know." But anyways, Blizzard clearly took on the quest to build the Big Racism Machine, for better or worst.

@@Doople You cant say PR is throwing Devs under the bus when the devs are the one's being vocal on social media constantly about how much they love their token representations. Sure they might not have been using the data when someone suggested something like Symmetra being autistic for more virtue points. But the devs are more than ok with; not making it part of her design, story or character and instead just slapping a representation sticker on and calling it a day. I get it that devs sometimes have to make compromises they might not necessarily want for their story originally but it feels kind of dirty when the devs are constantly championing themselves on twitter for "their" representations.

I sometimes think about that tweet from an artist over at Blizzard that went "God fucking dammit,our company just throws away all the goodwill it can get."

When asked for comments on the matter the Head of Diversity and Inclusion at Blizzard, Wakka, had this to say: "I dunno what's wrong with it, brudda. It has no Al Bhed in it!"

There was some contreversy with sites using cooked numbers to say that FF14 overtook it but those turned up to be false. Even when WoW is at it's worst it's still overtaking the competition. Not to mention that WoW has been VERY positive lately with the numerous changes Blizz has been making over the past few months. Game-wise the company is killing it as usual but PR wise it's a dumpster fire.

The absurdity of how corpos need to put numbers on diversity like wtf. I imagine the artist being like "Hey I made this buff black lady character cuz I think she's cool." and the corpos are looking at the character, looking at the chart, looking at artist, calculating the diversity points, like god damn it dude a buff black lady is already a perfect character! you don't need a chart.

They probably never used it... but they probably submitted a design, and the higher ups had a meeting. Afterwards, they gave the artist "some suggestions" on "how to tweak the design a little bit". Because let's be honest- you don't get something this detailed yet inconsistent unless there were several people up top with some very strong opinions that were really into the idea. So they might not tell you that this is being used, but they have this in the back of their head when they meddle.

@@lemeres2478 Well this came from King Games and they did a GDC talk in 2017. Overwatch came out in 2016 and King Games was bought in 2015. So I don't think there would be enough time for Overwatch's original cast to be subjected to the diversity chart. It seems like the diversity chart only used OW as a mock up and to cash in on "good" PR this year. Honestly I think any fuck up on character design and story is all natural. Like I'm sure there is lots of factors but i think the devs just didn't implement their ideas well and often come off as pandering unlike something such as Street Fighter

The spike field being a warning anyone can understand, even if written language becomes forgotten knowledge. The "honorable" thing is based on a written message about the place based on the warning the people who buried the waste were trying to convey with all the spikes; _"This place is not a place of honor... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here."_

So Persona 5 has "white" main characters, Ghosts of Tsushima does not because it's made by a foreign studio examining something that's not their culture.

No, basically the Australian Outback was gifted to the Omnics; a bunch of people took exception to that and decided that blowing up the central reactor of an entire city was a good idea. So the outback is heavily contaminated, and that's where the radiation exposure comes from.

It got nuked... as part of the tertiary racial conflicts following the RACE WAR. Sidenote- I think robots might also be susceptible to radiation. Radiation can mess up DNA by hitting it, and it doesn't go over so well when it hits your circuits with your code on it either. Then again- their skulls can have heavy lead plating with little to no effort. So a little of column A, a little of Column B.

@@tbotalpha8133 It also all started because Dwayne McDuffie made Black Lightning (and later Static Shock) who was DCs first Black Hero iirc. In fact a lot of the animated Black People with Lightning powers are just DC animated shows that couldn't use Black Lightning for licencing reasons. Of course Naruto solidified that Electricity powers belong to Black People

@@cyberninjazero5659 Everytime I think of Black Lightning I get unreasonably annoyed that, at least in all the appearances I saw,, he doesnt actually manipulate black colored lightning. Not only would his name hit harder, black electricity looks _really_ fucking cool.

What's really funny is at the very end of the conclusion section of the paper the authors basically call out blizzard by saying that they couldn't do a better job with the tool because if they did the higher ups at blizzard would have ended the project and it would have put their "embedded allies at risk"

This is exactly what Pat was talking about with the academic pursuit being cut short and subsumed.

I doubt I'd like Blizzard's answer, but I'm morbidly curious how people from incredibly small protected populations would be measured. For example, the Indigenous Setos people in Estonia are classified as a protected minority and are numbered at less than 15,000. The Sentinelese people in the Indian Ocean are protected, and approximates are less than 500. Or subsets of Tribal Aimaq People from Afghanistan/Iran, who in extreme subsets number in the dozens.

I'm asexual myself, I think they mean Robot: Asexual is F, which is different from Human: Asexual which would be S. I mean, that's how I'D classify it, I don't think Blizzard actually thought this through. And yeah, as I have autism as well the disability thing is really messed up. Plus, real disabilities already have variables and levels of severity, I mean there's verbal and non verbal autism, but also levels of blindness, deafness, and paralysis...which are literally how handicaps for sports are already calculated, hence how the Patalympics can have people with different numbers of missing limbs compete against each other. And somehow Blizzard didn't manage to even calculate that stuff that already exists and is public domain correctly.

You make a very good point about the differences between human sexuality asexual and robot asexual, but I agree that Blizzard likely didn't consider this differentiation at all. I also agree re: the disability stuff-- I have APD (auditory processing disorder) for which I use hearing aids, but I'm not Deaf, as an example of how disability can manifest in various ways and to varying or fluctuating degrees of disability. Blizzard absolutely didn't take any of this into consideration, which is why this whole tier list situation is so off base and nonsensical. Thanks for contributing, I totally agree! I have no idea what Blizzard was thinking, but it seems like part of the issue is that they didn't give it much actual thought at all.

Modern phrenology chart aside, for a real answer, it actually depends. For example, certain dental scans are considered to have higher radiation emission than others, and therefore your exposure as a patient is higher. Therefore, you can only have a certain number of those scans per year, in accordance with radiation exposure safety for patients undergoing x-ray medical imaging. Source: I used to work in a clinic, so I heard about this fairly often from our radiology people, but I also have uniquely borked teeth (due to genetics lol), so I've also personally had some of these more complex dental scans, and I was only allowed three full skull rotation x-rays per year as they are far more powerful than your typical "take a couple pictures for the light bar on the wall" type x-rays, which don't expose you to as much radiation. EDIT: If you are a person who needs these more radiation-heavy scans fairly routinely, then you very well might have a special conversation with your medical team about radiation risks and long-term repeat x-ray risks, which can vary based on whatever health condition you are having x-rayed periodically, as well as the frequency and duration of x-ray imaging that you need. I hope that makes sense, my birthday is tomorrow so I'm already kind of drunk.

Per the last time this came up on the podcast, I would say spinning the wheel on this chart does succeed in the original goal of 'preventing every character from just being default Commander Sheppard' but will fail to achieve any other objective at all.

Clearly what we need is an elderly, buff, autistic, lesbian robot centaur from a fictional country who was exposed to radiation poisoning and also has a missing hand and eye. This is the PEAK of representation.

This is a two-for-one situation because it _isn't_ Blizzard who did this, it was King. So it's _not_ good to call out Blizzard for this, because that's a totally false accusation, AND there are other parts of the same company who ARE using this (made it, to be specific) and are proudly advertising it to other developers to use, and AREN'T being called out for it.
