Cornered by Ginzo's (Ittoku Kishibe) henchmen, the two geishas are rescued by Zatoichi (Takeshi Kitano) who dispatches Gizno's forces with incredible efficiency.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Beat Takeshi Kitano directs and plays the title role in this tribute to the wildly popular "blind swordsman" of Japanese cinema who was the hero of more than 20 movies and a television series from the early '60s to the late '80s. In Kitano's version, Zatôichi wanders into a town harassed by criminal gangs, and helps two geishas take revenge on the men who murdered their parents. His mission leads him to a final, bloody confrontation with the gang's mastermind and his hired assassin (Tadanobu Asano), a swordsman with a reputation as lethal as Zatôichi.

Love this movie. It's definitely more of an 'art house' movie though rather than an action film. One of my favourite scenes is where he's walking out in the countryside and the farmers working the fields become part of the soundtrack which I found strangely, beautifully hypnotic.

To aim for surprise means to hide and lurk. Even if the other party is blind, as long as we have such an awareness imprinted on us, it is not surprising that we would take this action. If this were me, I would surely act the same way. Because it comes from my own life-supported (and can surprise people) experience, and it is an action that I can take on the spur of the moment.

Old Ichi would often fake clumsiness to keep his opponents optimistic, otherwise everyone just froze in terror, Ichi had other things to get to that day.. Also he virtually never bothered to kill unarmed peeps, no challenge.. This Ichi is grey haired, I'm guessing older, more jaded.. just as easy to gack an unarmed guy as not.. _flash_

True. By the way, I've just watched the old movie, Zatoichi's Flashing Sword, and the only time Zatoichi got hurt was when he was hit by a piece of tile in the head. He started bleeding then, and that was pretty much the ending. The ending was a bit weird but Zatoichi still killed everyone and won.

Zatoichi is one of the great heroes, I love his lore. The reason for him killing all these men during feudal Japan was simple, these men were corrupt officials his samurai and his guards, they hired ninja to assassinate Zatoichi after he convinced one of this man's samurai to spare the life of a father who was forced into making illegal drawings for devices that were banned.

@@davidjsaul It's an objectively poor decision to use CGI for blood in any medium. They used to do scenes like this in one take. The editing is worse than the CGI.
