This is the EXACT scene I saw when I first discovered Zatoichi and Shintaro Katsu, flipping thru cable TV channels on a Saturday late morning a good 20 years ago (I think it was the old IFC cable channel.) I was utterly flabberghasted by what I saw and made a point of seeing absolutely every other Zatoichi film, including this one from start to finish. The only other Zatoichi creation I saw besides the Shintaro films was the movie by Takeshi Kitano, which I enjoyed IMMENSELY. The original film series was a work of pure genius, and Shintaro Katsu was absolutely magnificent.
