The Blessing Power of Shamans

Blessing is one of the most important aspects of shamanism, bringing the gift of the spirits to people and objects and places.
I talk about blessings using various ritual objects such as the shaman's mirror and phurba dagger, and how you can do simple blessings without any ritual objects at all.

Yes, the spirits only lend us their power. And yes, blessing is so important! Is it necessary to ask someone's permission before offering them a blessing? Thank you! I will make more arshaan, and now I know other ways to bless thanks to your gracious sharing. Bless you, Nick!

I recall the first time I used my first drum at the Hill of Tara in Meath Ireland. I felt a fool. But I sat on the hill and quietly played my drum. The sky was blue with a few fluffy white clouds passing by - after about 20 minutes - I felt the lightest mist of rain fall on me through sunlight - it went on for several minutes - while I continued to play I felt like I was surrounded by spirit and realized that the rain had created a rainbow around only me - everything else outside of my space was dry. It was truly beautiful. I have to say I really enjoy your teaching.

I had no idea you had a KZread channel. I'd been listening to the podcast. You are hands down the best shamanic teacher I've found. Thank you.

Blessing, that's one of the things I found out about on my path, indeed, so precious and important and crucial! Giving blessings, and asking blessings. Blessing myself, my house, my space, the neighbourhood, the whole planet, the ancestors and so on... I find it's a good way to kind of "wash" away a curse (such as a disturbing/hurtful energy sent our way by someone we offended and angered). I do my best to bless those who do me harm ("bless them anyway"), not that I acknowledge their doings, but if they're alive, well, then they're blessed by Life and I can acknowledge that and bless the share of life that they are/have. I feel like the ground, the land, craves blessing, as if it kinda needs it to feel good, and as if it hadn't been properly blessed around here (France) for way too long... I find that the exchange of blessings (offering it and asking it) is some form of basic spiritual hygiene, just like brushing our teeth is one of the basics of oral hygiene! Though, it's so much something I haven't been tought as a kid, it's sometimes hard to remember to do it on a daily basis, or each time that it would be welcomed/needed...

Thank you for your work here. I enjoy what you shared about shaman's actually having no power... Total agreement, as those who think themselves high and above, put themselves in a place to fall off the horse. To me, you utilize the word 'pathetic' rather accurately, as it is pathetic in the sense of weak, isn't it interesting that most curanderoes are not big muscley types, but instead are little unassuming people. For it is their weakness, their humbleness which opens them up to the powers, insights & spirits. Wonderful video on the subject of blessings & shamanism. Well done. -AA

When you speak of mantras is that similar to the prayers on a set of Rosary Beads? My great grandmother's Rosary Beads were prayed on for years and then given to my mother who continues to do so.

Crystals are hardly ever used in traditional shamanism - and when they are they are used in ways very different to new age crystal teachings. Personally I don't use crystals at all, and none of my shaman friends do either, but shamans do use stones quite often

May i ask for a blessing. Ive had back problems with pain nobody can seem to treat. I would like to try to seek the aid from a professional shaman such as your self.

Are the four directions actual or intent? I wouldn't always know where east is.

I find Directions are easier to find and feel when I'm outdoors. If I'm in a modern house/building, the modern building materials (metal, reinforced concrete...) will kind of hinder or distort the electromagnetic fields of the Earth and make it more difficult to keep track of Directions and perceive their energy, their teachings... If I don't know where East is exactly, I can still try to figure out where approximately the sun rises, and that may be good enough... But then, well, buying a small compass can help! ;-)
