    I did something similar with my bladesinger, I brought him up to 20th level in my campaign and he was Bladesinger 17/Echo Knight 3. 18:15 Trip Attack actually doesn't require a melee attack; it requires a weapon attack. As such, an archer can stay back and trip enemies in the front line. Doing so would be disadvantageous (generally, anyway) for you, but it is possible and would help your allies

    In case is curious as to why Shadowblade has the 1silver material component requirement now, it's because if the spell has materials less than 1silver, then you can use the component pouch as the material component. So without the 1silver requirement, you could Booming Blade by swinging your component pouch. The intention is that you actually required a weapon instead of attacking with the component pouch. JC said the material component change was not intended to prohibit Shadow Blade+Booming Blade.

  • @TheRobversion1

  • @danielfaubert1903

    I think you've been mistaken a little bit about the reasoning for the silver requirement. RAW, it says that you have all the components in your component pouch as long as they don't have a cost. So previous to the change, you effectively had infinite weapons in your component pouch.

    I agree, my current bladesinger has 20AC in bladesong, 25 with shield. I also have fairly good saves (managed to get a luckstone so that helps). I play a warforged war wizard 10 who dipped 1 level into order domain cleric. My AC is 23 with some magic armor and shield that I’ve found. due to subclass features and spells it can spike up to 32 with a shield spell while concentrating on shield of faith. I have an 80 hitpoints maximum, and my DM usually whittles me down with save effects. I’m decent but f saving throws too, but my reaction takes my leveled spell casting away and a lot of damaging effects save for half damage on a pass.

    23:21 fun fact, your familiar can treat you as an independent, intelligent mount. It would then use its turn to ready the help action, triggering when you would make a melee attack, and as long as you don't take an attack of opportunity, neither does your rider. So, this works great with rogues who can bonus action disengage. Best one for this build is definitely an owl, but for rogues, or anyone with the mobile feat, they can use whatever they want. I'm personally using a weasel on my soul knife/bladesinger

  • @anniedarkheart5224

    @anniedarkheart5224

    3 жыл бұрын

    Readied Actions are performed after the triggering event. If you readied Help with the trigger when you make an attack, the readied Help action would happen after the attack. Which would be pretty terrible for the Rogues without Extra Attack. You'd want the trigger to be "Help Action when moving within range of an enemy;" that would trigger during movement and Help before the attack.

    I am playing fighter/bladesinger and my backstory essentially: the guy was a thug on the street, enlisted to survive and be supplied with basic things like food and clothing. In the military he was put in the mistwalker unit that are famous for their ambush attacks and amphibious assault using mist as cover for deploying unit on the beach and to cover up the fighting ground where they can see enemies and enemies cannot see them. Then his superiors noticed his tactical wit and savviness in combat and decided to send him into academy where knight enchanters graduate. Knight enchanters are commanders whose duty is to support and defend their subordinates from magical assault and provide combat superiority (he-he) to their unit. Finranor studied under archmage of history master Ian Word who specialized in restoring long lost arcane traditions (he is chrono wizard) and together they settled on mission to restore an ancient tradition of emerald knights. This is bare bones but you get the gist of it IG

    If you're interested in a Bladesinger/Paladin but are unsure how to make the stats work, might I suggest a Tortle? You can dump DEX and use STR since the former no longer matters for your AC, meaning you could rock a stat spread looking like 16 STR, 15 CON, 14 INT, 13 CHA, 8 WIS/DEX. First three interchangeable of course, depending on what half-feats you might want. Great video as ever!

    You know what I think Tenser’s Transformation is great for? Your simulacrum. It has less Hp than you so that 50 temp HP is helpful in combat, and if you find a way to caste haste on the simulacrum as well you’re now getting more out of the spell. And it would free you to casting other spells while your simulacrum runs wild, and since the simulacrum doesn’t recover spell slots anyways it feels less restrictive that you can’t cast other spells while you have tensers active.

I'm glad this is built around shadowblade as i'm looking for ideas on how to optimize that as well as i like the spell but haven't found the right chassis for it yet. moreover, i hope this means you veer away from a animate objects and we actually see a dedicated gish. i think it's ok to delay extra attack i think for this build as you can work off of booming blade until you get extra attack which means your dmg doesn't drop off too much especially if you can trigger the rider dmg often enough. i'd skip toll the dead and pick up minor illusion + mold earth. liking this build so much more than your 2.0. Well done Colby! i like the gunner idea and quick toss with shadowblade. personally i'd skip bladesong so i can nova asap. it's not like we are slouches ac and concen wise with shields, shield spell and con save prof. i'd do it this way: bonus action: shadowblade action: trip attack + booming blade action surge: pushing attack + booming blade reaction: brace or another way to play the action surge is: menacing attack + booming blade move away and trigger oaa and hope they miss so you can trigger riposte.

    :') I love this build. I've mostly DM'd and only played a few characters, but by far my favorite to date is my Fighter/Bladesinger. I chose Eldritch Knight as my subclass for the increased number of cantrips. Not all the players at the table are optimizers and 1 is new, so I wanted the flexibility that came with having Blade Ward or Sword Burst n didn't need the damage. We've been playing over a year now though... and after this build... I may have to retrain my subclass for that sweet sweet damage boost! 😈 Very interesting idea to use the gunner feat for the +1 Dex AND no disadvantage on ranged within 5ft.

    Happy Anniversary! Thanks for all your work and calculations Artificer 3 (Battle Smith), then Wizard (Bladesinger) all the way. It gives medium armour and shields from the outset, plus as a battle smith you get Battle Ready at 3rd level, which means you can use your Int modifier with any magical weapon (incl Shadow blade!) You can pump Int earlier, and still get level 9 spells at level 20

  • @TheRobversion1

    @TheRobversion1

    i think he doesn't factor in getting level 9 spells as he generally does his final dmg report at 17. i don't as well as i theorycraft my builds for leve 10 and dont' consider tier 4 stuff as most people don't play those levels. artificer 3 is indeed a good dip though for a variety of reasons (infusions especially replicate magic item, int attack, steel defender) i'd still 2 levels of fighter for action surge.

    I’d flavor my fighter levels as psychic abilities to really “sing” to the Jedi vibe you’ve got going here. I would have liked Psi Warrior here but they don’t have an option to bonus action attack. You COULD go Martial Adept and Superior Technique for your first feat/fighting style respectively, but you lose out on the 18 Dex at level 1. A lot of options here, if you’re just looking for the flavor of it.

    @@DnDDeepDive Hi, I just watched all your most recent Bladesinger videos, they are great. I wanted to see how the integration of multiclassing would change your previous Bladesinger Builds, and wanted to hear or read your opinion/optimization of my build. I always felt the stand alone Bladesinger was excellent, but needed a few things to take it to the next level. I came up with a Divine Bladesinger Paladin which is a build that I felt would address my concerns. There is no non-multiclass Gish that has the survivability, magical utility, action economy and high sustained DPR that I was looking for. Basic concept, 8 levels of Bladesinger/8 levels of Divine Soul/4 levels of any Paladin and the starting feat Meta Magic Adept. The Paladin levels can vary 2-4. Meta Magic Adept will in the short term help alleviate delaying extra attack, with Quickened Spell. Example, Action Green Flame Blade and Bonus Action quickened Booming Blade. Meta Magic Adept in addition to giving you yet another meta magic option, you also need Extended Spell, gives you 2 free limited use Sorcery Points. Extended Spell is for long duration non-concentration spell, such as Mage Armor, Aid, Death Ward, Etc. Divine Soul gives more cantrips/spells/spell diversity. Charisma will be low, 13 min and a suggested max of 14. Charisma casting will relegated to non attack roll or saving throw spells, like Aid, Death Ward, various healing, etc. For Paladin you need 2 levels for Smite, but I suggest getting Channel Divinity at 3 and the ASI/feat option at 4. The Paladin Subclass I felt didn't matter that much mechanically and could be left open for roleplay purposes. Survivability is increased by casting Extended Mage Armor, Aid, and Death Ward before a Long Rest. If you are an Elf the spell duration will carry over for 12 hours after your Trance is over and you have your spell slots/sorcery points back. Level 5 and higher spells can still be learned via copying scrolls into your Spell book, results may vary depending on Arcane proficiency/availability of of desired scrolls. At level 20 you will have a level 9 spell slot, and only be down 2 spell slots in comparison to a full caster. Martially you have and a fantastic and diverse attack option and the potential to extend the physical assault with another melee cantrip as a bonus action, all of which can be smites. Alternatively you could cast a spell and still smite with a quickened Booming Blade/Green Flame Blade. At it's core a Divine Bladesinger Paladin is a Bladesinger with Divine Magic, Meta Magic, and smite. I'm very curious and look forward to your feedback, Peter Thompson.

    Just started my Bladesinger last week in a friend's game. I started one level in Artificer for proficiency, but I really did it so I could have what I like to call a BardPod. It's basically an iPod, but she puts in some earbuds at the start of combat, pops Bladesong and hits play on the BardPod and that's her "Bladesong". For power it steals a little arcane energy whenever I cast spell so it never runs out of battery. I have song for every occasion.

    What you brought up about the simulacrum spell gave me an interesting thought. Now this idea is 100% campaign and DM specific, so it might not be something you’d want to pursue. But the thought was “What if you optimized a wizard for getting rich and using all of those wonderful (but expensive) spells that you would normally seldom use?” I’m reminded of a high level campaign I’ve been in where I played a Doctor Doom type Sorc/Artificer who had a whole kingdom at his disposal. Money was no object (which I think is common at level 17+ where you can wish for 1,000,000 gold daily or whatever the limit is RAW). I wonder how quickly you could make money not matter in a build going for a rogue-ish wizard who steals coin from under the nose of even dragons maybe.

    I have to disagree. Action surge allows you to cast 2 spells in one turn as long as their both actions. My go to with my blade singer is 4th level hold person on 3 targets (best I can afford in spell slots currently), then steel wind strike (5th level) which will have advantage and autocrit on any of the targets who failed their saves. It's extremely powerful, the few times I've used it I've done over 250 damage in a single round. Granted it's spread over 5 enemies but it doesn't get much better than that at 11th level

    @@Samueras Interesting. I hadn't considered that. It does have its restrictions though. Can't really be used if your party is in the mix unless you want to kill them all. Also, I find this fits the bladesinger style better by being melee attack based. BTW, I did the math fully for both to get the most accurate representation and it's actually a comparison of 264 avg. dmg (4th level hold person + 5th level steel wind strike) to 332.5 avg. damage (4th + 5th level fireball). Seeing as what I was comparing was at wizard level 9, when you only have one 5th level spell slot. Still a fairly big difference, and I'll be keeping it in my back pocket for future use, but personally I find the finesse of my original combo more useful.

    booming blade rider dmg will trigger on their return but not when you force them to move away as booming blade doesn't trigger on forced movement. the combo is still valid but the dmg is just a bit delayed.

    See its all well and good to play a non-elf bladesinger - but this is what I did/am doing on mine. High elf (naturally), noble (just because), starting fighter up to level two just as you did. 3rd level is when I started my wizard levels, delaying extra attack a little less. The key difference in the overall build is the race, and for that reason the fighter subclass I chose. Elven accuracy is SO good with shadow blade, and then you take champion. The great thing about this build is the sheer amount of dice you are rolling on each melee attack. Combine that with a massively expanded crit range and you are generally critting once and not uncommonly twice per round. In my experience, with the expenditure of a second or a third level spell slot makes for really reliable 10-round damage. Great frontline fighter with that high AC, the really spicy damage, and it conserves higher tier wizard resources for those casts of encounter-ending spells like hypnotic pattern.

    My Bladesinger is a pacifist High Elf Noble. Tries to stop all fights unless pushed to the edge and his Bladesinger rage takes over - Genesis In too deep. Prestidigitation is a must, best to look clean and smart while in front of the men.

    I did a Psionic Warrior Bladesinger a startet as fighter 1 took bladesinger 6 and then got fighter to 3. Really liked it that way. I always take warcaster as my first feat and it is really cool to get it at lvl 5 when cantrils get extra dmg.

    Oh, I missed the shoutout! NICE! It's pronounced "Bow-kin" In Japanese it's translated to "bokan" or "bokken." It's a wooden practice sword, similar to those used in The last Samurai en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokken

    A kensei monk is a great multiclass for the bladesinger, you can make shadow blade one of your kensei weapons for some really cool tricks.

    Just a fun note here, if you do make it to level 20 you get 9th level spells and can Shapechange into a Marilith. Bladesong still works while transformed as you still meet all the criteria, and you would get 7 attacks, could action surge for another 7, and a bonus action to quick toss... I'd call 15 attacks a nova round, right?

    Have you analyzed an eldritch knight 7 + bladesinger build with shadow blade? Wouldn’t come fully online until 13 when you can make a booming blade attack, an extra attack, and a bonus action attack. But it’ll still be a good build before then because bladesinger and fighter is always best. Eldritch knight would also still help 3 levels of spell progression to upcast shadow blade.

    I've been thinking about a similar build with psi warrior although battlemaster is probably more viable! Great work! :)
