We weren't colonies, but viceroyalties where aqueducts, churches, bridges, fortresses, universities, hospitals and etire cities were built. The economic prosperity of the hispanic world didn't survived the fall of the Empire, but our language remains as the strongest symbol of our forgotten history. A history where the ethnicity wasn't a problem and we were all united under a crown and a kingdom.

Native American Tribes were racist among themselves. It preceded Europeans. Spanish were a minority so they needed to intermarry. They chose noble women from tribes that were allies. An example: Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, son of Spanish nobleman and Inca princess. I speculate that after the independence the criollos, mostly masons with links to London, were probably more racist than what society was under Spain. Likely, the influence of 18th century Britain and 19th century Great Britain and puritanism in the US made Spanish speaking America more racist in the aftermath of Anglo saxon rise to world power.
