The Black Keys: Patrick Carney. The Interview. Sunset Sound Roundtable

Музыка

Drummer of The Black Keys, Patrick Carney sits down in Studio 1 at Sunset Sound Recorders in Hollywood, CA with Drew Dempsey to discuss how recording was actually how The Black Keys were eventually formulated. Also, the insane amount of work that him and band partner, singer and guitarist, Dan Auerbach have endured over 2 decades of creating, recording and performing music.

Name drops Pavement... Nice! In the 90's Beck and Cake hit me fast, then did not discover My Bloody Valentine & Pavement till much later. Still listening to all these bands today. Took the Pavement to Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks path too. Check out SM & The Jicks album Mirror Traffic produced by Beck. Been getting a bigger appreciation for Black Keys in the last few years. Music done right! Great interview.

The whole thing he talks about Akron being a place you are used to losing is the same way I feel about coming from the Detroit area and I am 56, you aren’t born to win, when you win you feel guilty, that never goes away. Your 40’s are nothing, wait until you hit your 50’s, it’s a whole different game man.

The “Do you believe in God?” question ended this interview for me. Couldn’t watch past that. LOL. I grew up in Akron and I’m 8 years or so older than Pat but got to see them in tiny bar in downtown Akron around 2001-ish? Amazing show. Glenn Swartz opened for them. Wow. One of my buddies told me Pat washed dishes at the Mustard Seed back-in-the-day. ‘95? Probably ran into Dan at Record Exchange on Market Street more than once looking for Jon Spencer Blues Explosion CDs. Stoked for the new record.
