Is Ireland mostly Catholic and Northern Ireland mostly Protestant now? That’s why they split into 2 from fighting

Though roughly true, it's more complicated than that. Now a days the republic has become quite secular in many parts. Our catholic identity is hanging on, but no where near as strong as it once was a few generations ago.

The demographics of norther Ireland are changing. Catholics now outnumber Protestants, slightly. But the issue here, as elsewhere, is atheism and general turning away from God. We pray for a renewal, and I am very hopeful.

Ireland, in my opinion, has now become basically an atheistic country, north and south. Instead of Catholics and Protestants fighting each other it's more likely that you would find them joining forces to attack religion in general.
