I'm Serbian Orthodox, educated in Catholic boarding schools. I still feel completely at home in a Catholic mass, have attended Protestant services too, and am especially fond of Russian and Ukrainian church music. Their choral singing is as close to divine as we can get on Earth. Peace and agapē to all.

@XYUyeah I'm learning and picking up things along the way and I thank the orthodoxy for leading me to Jesus christ where I felt the presence of The Lord though I'm currently living in Somalia and I've never come across another Christian person but my hope is to get Baptized Once I get the means to leave this country

As a Latin Catholic, I can definitely say that the Orthodox have a much stronger beard game. 👌

I have one question on roman catholicism. In the old testament God says to jews that men should have long beard so they are distinguished from women so shouldnt catholic priests also have beards?

@@naidesu-et9jh That's not true. It's just not necessary to follow all of the laws of the old testament, which is also why we don't get circumcised. But the ten commandments are still in effect... As to not having a beard: it shows purity, it distinguished priests from working men and soldiers, and it prevents the priest for making the blood of Christ dirty with his mustache. Also, it was the fashion in Rome, but some priests and especially monks have beards.

@@silvanussum5188 not gonna happen. The orthodox church did a bad job evangelizing my country puerto rico. There are only 2 orthodox churches in the whole island for a total of 78 towns. I never heard about them until a couple months ago. Right now there are 2 catholics churches on each town and plenty of protestant churches yet only two orthodox churches for the whole country. I also believe that catholicism and orthodoxy are one true church separated by pride. I also prefer my mass in spanish and in US, the only way to get my mass in spanish is through the catholic church.

Thank you. Adrian Fortescue wrote a century ago that “noble simplicity” is the hallmark of the Roman Rite. Of course he was writing about the Pre-Vatican 2 Mass which by modern standards is more ornate but he was comparing it to the East where ceremonies are more complex. Nonetheless, regardless of which Mass is celebrated, the liturgist recalls that noble simplicity is the hallmark. Sadly many people forget the word noble and think simplicity is an excuse for lifeless, undecorous liturgy.

I am Syro Malankara Catholic from India. Our church here, dates back to 52 AD when St Thomas came here....my church came into communion with the Catholic church in 1930💖😇✝️. Our liturgy is very similar to the Orthodox...😃☦️

I grew up in a Irish Catholic Christian Family. And I have great respect and love for my Eastern Orthodox brothers and sisters in Christ. Whether they’re from Russia 🇷🇺, Romania 🇷🇴, Greece 🇬🇷. Let’s hope and pray that both our Churches ⛪️ will reunite in the future.

@@forestmcneir3325 No, completely depends on the church. Some are nearly all OCS, some are nearly all the local Slavic tongue, some are very mixed. Most also have a few Greek phrases and homilies throughout as well.

The Byzantine Rite is so much more mystical and spiritual and makes you feel much closer to God that the Roman Rite

Well, that is your opinion. In mass, it is different than on KZread. I've entered both on a number of different occasions. The constant crossing for example, gives of, to me, an ingenuine atmosphere: it's like rhythm in trance. Must it not be sincere, instead of a repetitive habit? With each crossing we shall remember the pain of Christ and not move our hands like we're just performing. Have you ever been in a Gothic church, within central Europe? It is amazingly full of awe. It is not with all these distracting icons, but instead gets you in contemplative state of mind. No offence I still love Orthodoxy. Just adding my take to your comment here. We are all One. May Christ bless you-all. ☦️♥️✝️

I noticed that too. But when comparing the Latin Mass and Orthodox Mass, they both look sublime. It’s just that the Novus Ordo is no comparison to the Orthodox mass.

The Orthodox atmosphere in the Church is much more raw. People move naturally, they fidget more, their gestures are not synthetic. It looks more alive, closer to the original. Also the acapella chanting, without instruments, create the impression of ad-hoc gathering and worship, which again, translates into a more natural vibe to it.

I'm a Jesus follower. At this point, I feel Jesus is the only one I can always and forever trust. But I have to say, there is no other beauty that can compare to the Orthodox ceremonies. You just can't get more beautiful chants or cathedrals.

Both are Holy in their Liturgy and music. Orthodoxy is unique , gives chills - greetings from an Indian Orthodox !

If I am in Rome or Athens or Moscow or Cairo or Damascus or even in Tehran I can walk into one of our sister Churches and know that I am with God and that Christ is with me. I can know that I am with people who value human dignity, who refuse to spread violent hatred, and who respect OUR scriptures enough to not abuse them. As the patriarchs of Russia, Greece, Egypt, Syria, Armenia, Rome, Cyprus, and all the heads of our Church have said: It is now time to let the past go and to return to fraternal respect for our individual traditions. We Are The Church. Peace to all my brothers and sisters in Christ.

Laudetur Iesus Christus! I'm Polish and I'm roman catholic, traditional roman catholic - in teaching and in liturgy. I admire eastern rites, especially st. John's Chrysostom divine liturgy. I love orthodox christians, especially Russians, which I know as brothers in blood. So many bad thing make us enemies, but there are much more good things, that should make us friends and brothers in Christ for the Church of Christ survive. Actually, the schism was mostly a political accident and great scandal on both sides. The Church should remain one. The Church was divided mostly because political aspirations. Religion was treated as instrumentum regni. It is a great shame for all Christians and should never happened.

@Mic Micson emm no it broke from the Catholic Chalcedonian Church. There was no Orthodox nor Roman Catholics then. There where only the Greek Rite and the Latin Rite. The Roman Catholic church was founded by Charlemagne and it split itself from the other 4 patriarchate not the Otherway around.

Cool thing about being a Catholic, I can just attend a Byzantine Rite mass and get the same liturgy and mass as the Eastern Orthodox Church and STILL be in communion with the seat of Peter.

One thing that was described wrong was the "Latin mass" of Pope Francis from 6:15, he doesn't celebrate the Latin mass but rather the novus ordo mass in Latin which is very different than the actual Latin mass that the catholic church has always celebrated. In the Latin mass the priest faces the altar n not the ppl (Ad Orientem).

In all of the paintings of the Last Supper, in both Catholic and Orthodox Churches, Christ dost not have his back to the Apostles, but faces them, so why should the priest not face the congregation? Should the congregation not partake in the Divine Liturgy?

There really is no comparison in my opinion. Only the orthodox church seems holy.

Protestant here. I am amazed at the liturgies of both churches. I pray for the unification of all Christians. Please pray for me as I seek which tradition to align myself with.

I notice it’s always the Catholics wishing for reunion, i think it’s the ecumenical state of the modern Catholic Church , as if union doesn’t require the same faith. You can’t both want union and continue to add the Filioque to the Creed. It’s one or the other.

Thanks very much for this video. This is my first time of seeing how things are done in the orthodox church. I am Roman Catholic in Cameroon. I really love and respect both traditions as they really radiate sanctity and preciousness of our Saviour.

Squeak Squeaken the only true Christian church is the orthodox churche. Constantinople Byzantine empire. We the Greek people are very ancient civilisation with two empires the first bible was written in Greek the main language at the region of Jerusalem Mediterranean was Greek. Greek colonies. We convert to Christianity. Christianity started as a religion in Anatolia from the Greeks the apostles spoke spread the words of God in Greek language some of the apostles were Greeks. Orthodox Christianity it's the truth. We Greeks had been under the Turks for 450 years and we kept our religion strong. Read books read history of Christianity and u will c the truth. We gave the alphabet and orthodox Christianity to Slavic people. Catholic Church just forced the religion on people

Orthodox "clergy" have really long,unwashed beards and they look like dwarwes with those beards.Orthodox liturgical vestmemts don't look nice.They look lile they're carrying 100 tons of gold on thost vestments.And,really,big,golden crowns,this is a symbol of proudness,showing how rich they are.Like yea,I got lots of money,amd I'm gonna spend them on big golden crowns,and expensive vestments and I'm never gonna shave my beard,coz I'm orthodox!

I am Eastern Catholic - Syro Malabar Catholic Church - setup by St Thomas the Apostle in India. Our liturgy is similar to Orthodox, yet we are in full communion with Rome.

@Lj Lj I have. Those are west Syriac based, which is not Aramaic (East Syriac). West Syriac is a later addition. There is virtually no Roman influence in liturgy, except in Ernakulam area with forward facing mass following 2nd Vatican council, where all Catholic rites, including Latin rite, were encouraged to have forward facing to include community and community participation to be in line with Catholicity principle (Make disciples of all nation). Syro malabar rite has no semblance with Latin Roman rite mass. Syro malankara is west Syriac rite under Catholic Church.

+neymar Big the 3 relegions Islam, Christianity and Judaism has a lot in common, but different political views in each is what unties a great relationship. We sure can unite even if we are 100 Precent different but we can't when there is a beliefe between us which believes that they are god's chosen people and occupy other people's lands, When people stereotype an individual terrorist as a Muslim and when some fake Christians like the KKK spoils the great relegion of Christianity. in this case, we between each other cannot unite even.
