The Billion Ant Mega Colony and the Biggest War on Earth

Sources: sites.google.com/view/sources...
In nearly every corner of the Earth, ants wage war against each other. Their weapons are what nature gave them. Some have strong armour, deadly stingers or sharp mandibles. And then there is this tiny, and not very impressive ant. But it rules the biggest empire any ant has ever built. A colony spanning continents and fighting wars that leave millions of casualties. Let’s take a look at this unlikely warrioress: Linepithema humile, the Argentine ant.

As a kid, me and my mom fought an actual battle against a group of Argentine ants that were parasitizing our palm tree. We basically showered the tree water mixed with insecticide, teared off the barks of the old leaves, and scraped their larvae off the tree's trunk. It was a victory for us: our casualities were one palm tree wounded (which fortunately recovered), while the ants held probably thousands of dead and wounded.

I witnessed this as a kid on a smaller scale there were different types of ants in my massive woods and we would help support one colony to make it really strong. Like carrying plants we saw them collecting to their nests and piling it right by their nest. Then once they got super strong they would go to war and take over other colonies. I was outside in the woods like 8 hours a day we had no TV or video games lol. So I spent a ton of time observing them. Weirdest thing that ever happened was a colony of carpenter ants in a stump were right next to a ant hill that is made from a pile of like broken straw and such. Two entirely different species. I thought they were attacking each other one day and watched them actually climbing onto the much bigger carpenter ants which then would fly away and return with the smaller ants on their backs with different materials from a field that was quite a ways away. They were working togethor using the larger flying ants to transport them long distances. I've told people this and people think I'm making it up but I observed this for months.
