The BikeRiders - One Bikers Opinion (Spoiler Alert)

My thoughts on the recently released movie The BikeRiders a semi fictional account of a midwest outlaw bike club based on a picture book published in 1968 by Danny Lyon.

No bike sounds! I was impressed by the bike sounds. Especially when benny goes home and sitting on the porch, you can hear the bike tinking and cooling off!

They needed more, In my opinion. Granted my local cineplex (AMC) surround sound might have been lacking but I wasn’t blown away by the audio mix when it came to the bikes.

Just watched it last night thought it was pretty decent, solid casting and acting and cool accurate visuals of the time. I agree some parts were a little slow, like me, i think most people expected more of the crime gang action aspect, but afrerwards, I realized it was kind of cool to see a reminder that groups were just about the meet ups and rides before the times of the negative stuff

Exactly, let’s hope there’s a prequel about the more innocent times. I do hope more scripts are written covering the 1920’s-1950’s era of motorcycling. There are stories to be told. Thanks for commenting!

How did they own a bar? Real estate used to be pretty cheap and relatively unregulated. Now, everything in America is seen as an investment opportunity, bidding up the price of everything, especially necessities.

Isn’t that the truth….I know from news footage that the Outlaws chapter in Florida was initially based in a trailer park then eventually a single family home on some acreage, they tried to blend in and go unnoticed.

That's good info on a "Bikeriders II". If they keep it real and dig down more, it will be a great historical documentary. That's very important. It's obviously about the Outlaws MC (Chicago Outlaws in the 1960's).

That’s the film I want to see. Followed by a prequel of this, an origin story that shows the build up of the club.

I agree that the movie is slow at times and the dialogue style was different, but how long has it been since a "Biker Movie" has been made? I enjoyed the movie having been a youngster in the mid 60's!

What you say is true, just for that fact alone the movie gets a 5 of 10 rating, being shot almost exclusively in film makes it a 6, then it’s story and how it’s told a 7…in my humble opinion. But don’t get me wrong I am extremely excited we have a movie about the lifestyle out in the mainstream and extremely hopefully this will ignite the opportunity for a few more to be released in the next few years. We’ve been waiting long enough!

It makes sense why they named the movie the bikeriders and not the vandals. Its more about the lifestyle of bike riders in the 50s

A book that Danny Lyon published in 1968 and updated in 2003 with a second issue is called The Bike Riders and the movie is based on that book.

It was worth the price of admission just to see Norman Reedus eating mashed potatoes with his fingers and hear Michael Shannon's drunken rant about Pinkos and college students but for me the real star was Toby Wallace as the Kid a modified Taco Bowman who not only takes the club away from Hardy but nearly steals the movie as well. The details were great.

So much parallel with the kid and Taco, though Taco was Detroit’s chapter president, the Latin, almost Charles Bronson look that Wallace has feeds the Taco persona. The director did his research. He’ll probably be the focus in the sequel

Good Review. A sequel huh? Interesting. I'd call it "The Bikerider" (singular) and follow the career of that violent, resentful kid who took over. He IS the Darth Vader of this storyline afterall. 🏴‍☠️ 💀😎

I pretty much like watching biker movies because of the bike no matter how bad the movie is , sons of anarchy was a good television series, but it was a little way out there like you mentioned where are the cops, love the old bikes , specially, the late 60s biker movies how the bikes backed in are being built now , good 👍🏼 movie critic

Thanks on leather jacket. Is there another brand to check out? Now for boots. I had a cheap Boot Barn harness boots, Cory something. Did hold up to motorcycle riding. I bought a pair of Boulet harness boots. So far the Canada boots holding up well. Chippewa stopped making harness and engineer boots. Schott's has engineer boots for $299. Don't know if schott's make them. Wesco has biker boots big price. Think White has expensive boots. Red Wing boots I have Pesco cowboy boot not oil tan. Oh don't forget to get two pair of chaps for summer and early spring and fall.

I recommend First MFG for jackets and vests. They allow for customization and the pricing is realistic. Links are in the video description. Boot wise, in the video I’m actually wearing the Bootbarn Cody James boots. But those are my dress boots. For riding the most comfortable and durable that I’ve found are Indie Ridge boots. Thanks for commenting!

Totally Agree. It ranks higher than most every one of those 60-80’s Hollywood biker films released. IMO , those films set the bar low for the genre. This is a legitimate film shot mostly on film (except for two scenes) and will probably in time be ranked up there with Wild Ones and Easy Rider.

I thought the movie was okay. 7/10 seems about right. I was born in the late 50's so not sure, but I was surprised practically no one was wearing goggles, especially with no windshields. Also, I think the chick would have gotten Benny to change his t-shirt once in a while🙂

  • @KennyQuestShow

    @KennyQuestShow

I think the movie folks didn’t want to obscure the actors behind windshields helmets and goggles. Just like they remove head rests in car interior scenes. That’s what I would do if I filmed the scenes, I mean I’m paying for the insurance so why not? Benny did seem to live in one outfit didn’t he?
