We bought a used 2012 Terrain that the dealer gave a lifetime powertrain warranty. They required you to take it to them for oil changes to keep the warranty. But they didn't do appointments, so you ended up wasting the whole day for an oil change. Needless to say, I said to hell with the warranty after the first oil change.

When I moved to Oklahoma last year. Seth Waldley Group has a lifetime engine warranty. It required a once a year oil treatment or every 15k miles to keep up the warranty. Most customers drove hours to buy at this store, as it was 70 miles south of Oklahoma City in a town of 3000 people.

This is so typical of insurance companies. They want your money as long as you don't have a claim. So then people are afraid to use the warranty. Home warranties are no different. No one takes the time to read all of the small print. They are not cheap. Thank you for all you do.

From engine that took a s… at 140k miles to axel bending , shocks , joints , starter water pump fuel pump rear camera and i run outta text if i keep listing. That's one of the reasons why I don't buy extended warranties. Maybe I've been lucky or just that I take good care of my vehicles but in my 30 years of driving I've never had an issue outside of what the manufacturers warranty covered. (Knock on wood).

Do you have a video already or plan on having a video about the difference between normal a severe duty maintenance schedules? On a new car, this may be the case. As Chevy Dude says, read the fine print. I got a Warranty Forever by NWAN and having purchased a used vehicle with 97k miles, this lifetime powertrain warranty has been a lifesaver. Since I didn’t want to service at the selling dealer, they required I call in to preauthorize maintenance and they don’t make you do crazy add ons to be compliant. They require you to hold on to your paperwork and even allow you to go to an independent shop. The warranty has now paid for a new transmission, rear main seal, oil cooler lines and an engine mount with just my regular oil change documentation. Most extended warranties would offer nothing on a vehicle like mine that is now north of 250k miles. I’d rather have the lifetime powertrain coverage than nothing at all. Would’ve been forced to give up this vehicle a while ago without it. Thank you for such an informative channel

Purchased a new 2015 Sierra that included a LPW. Had no expectation that I would ever have a need for it. After all, my 2003 Silverado had 278k miles on it without a single failure. Well, fortunately I had the LPW. At 85k miles, experienced a lifter failure. Took it to the Chevy dealer for repair and all I was required to provide was oil change history. Fortunately I document all the oil changes as I do them myself. Paid the $100 deductible and saved $6000 in repair costs. The dealer that performed the repair was not where I purchased the truck. Overall, was very pleased that I had the LPW. Not all extended warranties are bad.

Always great info when you get down to car practical business! Needed the dry erase board however! Would like to see you guys “go live” again as I think it is appreciated by your viewers. Dude we have unanswered questions…do roll one out this Friday I’ll buy the pizza or better yet the special steak (secret question maybe for Friday?). Seriously live shows are missed by a lot of us. Questions like can I trade my fantastic low mileage C8 now for a guaranteed allocation for a ZO6 topic would be cool. Will it be a “hope I get one” situation again and can’t “lock one in?” That’s why I think a “sell your C8 to us now” for a “guaranteed” allocation for Zo6 would be interesting topic.I know you are busy and have added elements to your businesses (and I really respected your personal story and your goals of a dealership), however, again the direct contact live shows I bring an important aspect to your BRAND. Also seeing the dogs, wife’s commentary, your set up, new mics, chairs etc. fun and interesting. I would like to hear a show on ALL of the discovered problems with C8, new cap, the complete accomplishments of #horngate, downloading issues, wheel degradation, etc. Having a “Chevy Dude List of Things to Fix and look out for on YOUR C8” would be a great list for people to have and download or sell them laminated. Let your viewers add questions like should I add extra tranny fluid even if I might track a couple of times or better yet sell to someone that might want that done. “NoTrannyFluidGate” is what that should be called as Chevy should be adding that at the factory heck as an option if need be. I’m just scared to have it done locally not where I bought it. Especially since it is an. Involved process that could damage car. Just a few thoughts and congrats on all the stuff you are doing! Still loving my RST! Heck if that market is still HOT call me I’d be happy to sell for more than my cost plus tax! Just hate the negativity out there and I’m glad you stand up to that BS! Carry on Chevy Dude! All my best and looking forward to a live show this weekend as winters coming and things a bit boring!

When we bought my wife’s new Rogue 3 years ago, it came with a LPW from Nissan. Has a one page contract that’s very specific. Says multiple times to follow the manufactures recommendations listed in the vehicle manual. It Also has a section for servicing the vehicle yourself and keeping all the receipts and mileage records. I found it to be a great warranty contract. At 76k miles so far, we have done all the services required and on time and have all the records. No problems so far. I guess we’ll find out at some point in the future if it eats a CVT and we have to get it fixed just how good that LPW really is. Says it’s honored at All Nissan Dealers nationwide.

My dealer in Virginia has been great about honoring the Carmax "service agreement". Which I would say, that is the biggest confusion. I thought I was getting a warrantee, and had to be taught that, an SA is not the same thing. So there have been denials. The fuel pump sending unit failed (after 20k miles), and they were going to pay for that. But the connecting tube between the 2 rear fuel tanks (yes, Corvettes have 2 tanks in the rear connected by a tube), seized. So a bolt would not turn, and I was charged $2000. So, there is a huge upside to going factory warrantee over the aftermarket agreement. I was told that Carmax sells the warrantee back to General Motors for a profit, and then creates their own limited agreement to sell you that is calculated to make them more money. ( I guess because they can deny expensive repairs and pay for the easy cheap ones). Thanks.

Never sign a contract, that is what an extended warranty is, until you read every word. If there is anything you do not understand, take it to a lawyer YOU are paying and have them explain it to you. If they will not let you take the contract to a lawyer to explain it to you then get up and walk out and do not look back.

Guarantee there are oil leaks you haven’t found yet. And if you have one that’s perfect at 100k miles then you need to go play the lottery because you’re one of the few. They almost always have problems. GM has had massive issues in the past 10 years between that 3.6 engine and the AFM in trucks. I’ll pass one GM until they figure it out

One thing to be clear about is who is issuing the warranty. A manufacturer’s warranty is always going to be the best. And yes, always read the details of the warranty. But here is a mistruth. Unless expressly stated in the warranty, the issuers of the warranty can’t just start denying you because of some “everyone knows this” type of BS. On the subject of modifications, obviously if the warranty clearly states that you can’t modify at all, then you can’t, but for example, as noted in the SEMA fights with manufacturers, a factory warranty makes no provision for voiding the warranty after “mods”. What is not so often spoken is the brutal truth. The burden of proof falls on the dealership, or by extension, the manufacturer to PROVE that your “mod” brought on the ensuing problems. Everyone knows that a cold air intake won’t hurt your engine, and that properly installed headers or catback exhaust “mods” won’t either. But a “tune” could. The computer “tunes” can cause the engine to perform in ways outside the design parameters of the engine, and often the “tuning” companies have enough evidence to support their side of the argument. But let’s say the tune allows way too much into the combustion chamber, more than can be completely burned, there is a chance of unburned fuel ruining the catalytic converters, which the manufacturer or dealership may or. May not be able to prove. If you have a massive 300hp nitrous shot happening to an otherwise factory engine, chances are that any failure will have obvious causes which would void the warranty. But with my Chrysler Factory Bumper To Bumper Lifetime Warranty not making any statement about “mods”, it is borderline fraud for the dealership service guy to even tell me that mods will void my warranty. Also, the fine print detail about mandatory yearly “inspections “ by the dealership is big crock of crap. But one little detail is not. At some point in the “Lifetime” of the owner, the vehicle will be worth much less than certain major repairs. In that case, depending on the details of your lifetime warranty, you warranty can become null and void. From what I understand, they will hand you a check for what THEY say your car is worth and void the warranty. BUT, also from my interpretation, you can decline that repair and retain your warranty. Let’s say it drops a valve and they claim a complete new engine or rebuild is in order, at a cost of $5000, and they tell you your car is worth $3500. You can go elsewhere and get it repaired or just do it yourself, and they would have no business judging the repair unless they thought and could prove that the repair caused another related failure. Say you put the head gasket on backwards and it got hot and the radiator sprung a leak. That $500 repair could be disputed, and if they could prove the problem, they wouldn’t have to pay for the radiator repair. The point is that they have designed the whole thing to make you want to give up and sell your car, thus ending their obligation. My dealership has been trying that tactic on me for years. Keeping the car for four weeks at a time for a five hour repair, and they weren’t waiting on back ordered parts. Or denying that the problem I complained about even existed. We cannot let these bastards continue to fleece America. Get informed. For the record, I have a 2006 Dodge Magnum RT, bought new, 60 miles, which now has 180,000 miles on it. I have had tons of problems with it, but more precisely with the dealership not actually repairing the problem, one continuous problem, with it stalling, sometimes once in a month, sometimes twenty times in a day. Fires right back up and drive like nothing ever happened. I’ve had just about every conceivable part replaced trying to end this problem. Mostly under warranty. But the kicker here is that while they will gladly sell a non-warranty customer parts that won’t fix the problem, yet no effort is made when I have the exact same problem. Hmmmm. Smells fishy. Anyway, when the factory warranty was about to end, the dealership offered me a drivetrain or bumper to bumper lifetime warranty. It’s easier to list what is not covered than what is. Not covered: catalytic converters, tires, rotors, pads, oil, filters, wear items. But they even replaced the lower radiator hose UNDER WARRANTY. But that’s it. Every single other item is covered. My dash speakers are blown. I could ask them to replace them but I won’t. I could use write a book on this. When the car was brand new, the switches for the HVAC and drivers door window switches “fell in”, but they fixed those immediately, and I’ve never had any issues with windows, door locks, stereo, cruise control, sunroof, nothing, ever! Never and engine hiccup till 160,000 miles. Then it all went downhill and every single problem has been a failure on their part which created more related problems, and so on. All the interior switch stuff and features all still work. But two radiator failures have led to two water pumps, and two HVAC systems, all because they wouldn’t admit the problem until there was total failure. Temp gauge is inaccurate when the water level is low, and the leak was always a tiny pinhole leaving no water on the ground ever. The temp gauge always read the same halfway level, until it went straight to overheat level. The water pump dies with no water running across its bearings, as does the HVAC system with no coolant running through its parts, and so on. So far, 15 years in, I estimate they have spent over $20,000 on a car I paid $27,000 for (family discount-brother was a service writer), and the warranty was about $2300. Easily the best money I have ever spent in my life. But it’s still a double edged sword. I HATE taking it there and they want it that way. At one point they banned me with made up accusations. They were forced to “unban” me. I have a hell of relationship with them now. A hell of a relationship. The GM knows me personally now. They bet on the wrong guy. I should write this book.

I work for a dealership in texas. Went to this guys website and pulled vin/miles for JD Power trade in book values. That's the number the banks loan money off of. He is consistently 3k higher than the market. Guy is a fraud. Got out of the dealership to say he is going to do right by people and he is screwing each and everyone of his customers. What a joke.

Depends on what you buy. My mother in law bought a GM Acadia, and the engine blew up at 40k miles. And i know it was taken care of because I changed the oil in it every 5k miles. A guy I work with had bent rods and lifters on his 2017 Silverado before 10k miles. My point is, just because you buy a new vehicle doesn’t mean it’s going to last. Especially with the junk GM has been putting out the past 10 years

Why? Because in this crazy time of inflation if you bight one 2-3 years ago you locked in 2019 pricing. Wouldn’t you love to have 2019, 2018, 2017 pricing on EVERYTHING right now? Warranties are great to protect yourself from huge repairs, but most importantly you are guaranteed for the life of the service contract of how much money you will spend on your car. If you don’t use it it’s just like your homeowners and car insurance then.
