The Biggest Railroad crossing ever. (Night time) New Camera!

Комедия

Hey yall! its been awile. I just got a new Canon Vixia RF42, and I Love it! my handycam broke. I decided to take a little trip up to Minneapolis and re record this crossing once viewed a few years back in other videos. This is at night time, so it gives a little better sence of how many lights there are here. Its also on the other side, so a little different angle. Enjoy, And PLEASE Comment!

    @@BoulevardFan28 exactly. The preempt is primarily for emergency vehicles, but it's also used to clear traffic at RR tracks near traffic signals. This happens at all the RR crossings along US -10 toward St. Cloud as well. Some city buses have signal preemption to hold a green or shorten a red as well to stay on schedule.

    Ah thanks, I was wondering about that. We don't have such lights in The Netherlands, everybody will find out that the cycle is affected automatically by long green cycles for traffic parallel tot the traintracks. But than again, we usually have cycle-paths next to the road as well, and those usually are the first to switch to green if they offer traffic alongside the tracks. You can see a good example here (pay attention to the light for cyclists that immediately turns green as soon as the crossing activates) kzread.info/dash/bejne/kaJrw6SckqmYe7w.html

    Sure, at night this might seem like overkill, but look at all of those traffic lanes and the location. Show me this spot again in the middle of rush hour, and then let's see people talk about how overkill it is... If it was a freight train, I would expect less, not more lights on it, but we're talking light rail vehicles which can be full of passengers. Spending a little extra money to signal the hell out of this crossing, pales in comparison to skimping and dozens or more people getting hurt or killed. I see no problem with this crossing. More should be done this way.

    While it may seem overkill, it's not. Blue Line trains run every 12 minutes, and ridership is extremely heavy.

    Whats the flashing white? light for?

  • @phishyblue

    @phishyblue

    7 жыл бұрын

    It's a 3M product called Opticom. Certain authorized vehicles have a light mounted somewhere on the vehicle that triggers the Opticom camera. When the camera sees the light flashing it will change the pattern of the traffic semaphore. As soon as the level crossing activated the light changed, and so long as Opticom and the level crossing are active the semaphore will stay red for the blocked direction of travel but continue the traffic pattern for directions that are not blocked. This particular semaphore is programmed to skip any direction (green arrows, south-bound traffic that would continue straight and encounter the level crossing, etc) that could encounter the level crossing while it's active and cause traffic to back up into the intersection. It seems like overkill now, but I've been stuck when this intersection is busy and it makes a lot more sense during those peak times. Emergency vehicles in cities that have Opticom can trigger the camera as well, a flashing light means the emergency vehicle is going to enter the intersection adjacent to your position, a steady white light means it is approaching from in front or behind you. Emergency vehicles will not typically change the semaphore pattern though, just trigger the Opticom light. That being said, most drivers aren't aware of what the light means until they've encountered it several times.

    There is a similar crossing where I live, except no gates and no additional lights for the nearby mall. The one I'm talking about has two left turn lanes, two straight lanes, one right turn lane, plus two oncoming lanes. Drivers who go straight are hitting a freeway on-ramp right at a junction in a metro area. It's a busy area for traffic but no local commuter trains, no Amtrak, and few freight trains.
