Just found this channel, some great stuff. I'm a big Australian film fan, haven't seen any of these besides The Big Steal, always surprised me that it took so long before Ben Mendelsohn to break into Hollywood. I remember from interview he did, for a while in the late 90's as his career was really struggling and he had to get another job to pay the bills. And thank's to Claudia Karvan got him a role on TV series Love My Way that he got it back on track in Australia at least until Animal Kingdom came along. Karvan is another one who's probably not got the due she deserves, seems like someone who could have been a big star in Hollywood (she had the talent and looks to be a star) but chose to stay home and do her career the way she wanted. Mendelsohn career before his big break with Animal Kingdom and everything after, is well worth exploring for people who haven't delved into that part of his C.V. The Big Steal (1990), Cosi (1996) (really underrated film with Toni Collette in it), Idiot Box (1996) and The Year My Voice Broke (1987) are gems from this period well worth checking out.

Idiot Box is great and really captures the boredom of suburbia and the characters' frustrations with life really well.
Great Vid Paul,The Big Steal is an absolute gem. R.I.P Marshall Napier,he passed away to today age 70.
Great video mate, the big steal is an absolute gem of a movie, every character is a stereotype but each actor played them in such a down to earth convincing way that you felt like you were also a member of the group along for the ride
Another great one. My wife and I were just married and living in Melbourne when The Big Steal came out. We used to drive past the abandoned Geoff Mullens Motors lot with the signage still on it for a while after the movie was released. Thanks for the memory.

Brilliantly done! Romper Stomper definitely deserves its own locations guide, would love to see that.
I just rewatched this movie since it's on SBS on demand, and what a fantastic movie it is. Thanks for putting together the locations, Melbourne certainly has changed a lot since 1990 when I was in high school 👍
Maybe because I grew up in that era or maybe because I empathize with the young mates, I loved The Big Steal from the first time I saw it. My favourite movie!
Loves ❤️ all my Melbourne Aussie movies thanks heaps putting this on and rest all this last few years phagl.
The Big Steal is 1 of my favorites films. But it's funny how life immitates art. I remember trying to impress a girl named Joanne as I was coming of age, but I didn't have a Jaguar. I had a Datsun 260z 2+2. Which was a bit of a lemon in the way it was looked after by previous owners. Gordon Farkas was the best used car dealer I've seen on screen.
Great stuff. Lockdown 6.0 here in Melbourne, and this helps. Cheers.
I’ve enjoyed your revisiting of film locations around Melbourne. I stumbled across your channel by looking up scenes from Malcolm. I remember seeing the Big Steal at the cinema. Maybe you can do highlights from Homicide. In any case, well done!
Just found your channel this morning thanks to KZreads 'suggested vids', then got stuck watching classic Melb locations for for 2h ... thank you!!!!!!!!!!
My favoriite Aussie movie
As ex Melbournite, I enjoy your videos a lot. The Big Steal was great, & I empathised with the Dad, the Cedric is more desirable than the Jag. Could I put in a request, 'Good Guys, Bad Guys', TV series filmed around Melbourne, and also the film the 'Fourth Wish'. Cheers👍
Thanks Phagl Productions gave me something to watch since I've not spoken to anyone for weeks. Until next time Cheers.
Hey man just found your videos and really loving it. I know you’re mainly around Melbourne But you should try find the location of bad boy bubby In Adelaide, that would be a popular one
Well done Paul. The last time I was in Melbourne walking down Little Burk St, I had this oh my gosh moment!!!! This is the car park from The Big Steal! I was so chuffed. Thanks a heap for this.
Glad you were able to fit in a bit of the Pirate Movie. The bulk was shot at Werribee mansion and the nearby river. Kevin S.
I’m absolutely loving your streets of melbourne Paul, can’t wait for this bloody pandemic to be over so you can do more 👍
Thanks for that. I am a big fan of the big steal. I remember on a trip to Melbourne. I looked for that car park. I don't think I found it. But Really appreciate this video thanks
Really enjoy these, keep it up
The big steal, what a fantastic movie. I remember seeing it at the drive in which was a grease mongers charity event with heaps of hot cars that turned up. If I owned that house, I think it's want that patch of land next to it. It looks so cramped now. Thanks for the upload 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Just watched the Big Steal today and wondered about some of the locations. Then discovered your channel. Thank you so much.
The big steal one of my favourite Aussie movies of all time . Claudia Karvin still desirable to this day . I almost bought a Jag in 1988 but settled on a Cadillac. Best thing I ever did
Number 1 movie for me. The Big Steal. I think i have watched it at least 100 times now, LOL. Love the shots around Melbourne and the friendship in the movie is great to watch. I even brought the DVD for future viewing. Thanks again for showing us the places where the movie was shot. I always wondered what they might look like now.
Love your work. thank you. Just discovered tonight.
Love your work ☺️
9news brought me here, you legend mate!
another great video thanks
Thankyou for your great videos and finding these locations. Have always wanted to see what The Big Steal and your earlier video of Malcolm locations looked like now. Would have also been good to see the location ofJoanna's house and the location of the scene where Danny and Joanna park and go in to the caravan together near the end of the movie.

Loving the videos! Maybe you can look at locations for Wog Boy and Romper Stomper?
Don't know how I got here, but really enjoying these film location docs. If you are ever looking to venture outside Victoria to do more, the movie Stone (1974) would be a good one from Sydney. No shortage of films done exclusively here in SA: Picnic at hanging rock 1975 Storm Boy 1976 Bad Boy Bubba 1993 for a creepy theme there's: Wolf Creek 2005 Snowtown 2011

If you can find the location of that beast of a Monaro in the movie the big steal, it will make you a true legend. Great content really enjoyed it. Thank you.
Excellent.
The big steal is brilliant.... 1 bloke that was in it was Angelo d'angelo who was in the box bandits also.
Love The Big Steal. You'd be unlikely to see a V/line train go past Danny's house these days because Geelong trains go via Sunshine now. I think the scene out front of the school was the Correspondence school in the 90s.
Not ashamed to say, this is in my Top 10 movies. I bought the big steal bluray sunburnt screens #7, released by umbrella. For some stupid reason, the movie had a 4k restoration but they released it in 1080p, not 4k... 🤷
Fun Fact: Danny's friend with the glasses, played Charles Manson in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Second comment for you today, Been years since I saw Mick Jaggers Ned Kelly - but the pub they used is an abandoned building still standing at Cookardinia in NSW on the road between Holbrook and Mangoplah, and Wagga ...

Great video. I feel strongly nostalgic for "The Big Steal". As a kid, my mother took me to the Coles (at the time) on Lonsdale street across the road from the carpark and I bought Star Wars figures there. I enjoyed your video a lot but you missed a couple of important places. Firstly, there's Joanna and her family's place where Danny has some misadventures. Importantly, there' the West Gate Bridge which has changed a lot and the "Boom Crash Opera" content. Also, it's nice to see you watching "Red Letter Media".
